My Thought Process for the Morning

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:21 am

Here’s a peek into my head this morning as I open the computer:

Oh look at this. BuzzFeed News says Roger Stone posted a picture of his judge next to a crosshairs symbol! Click.

Amy Berman Jackson Resized

Um yeah that’s not what he did. It’s just a picture of her in front of an organization’s logo. This is about as valid a complaint as that Sarah Palin stuff. That said it’s a stupid move by Stone to criticize his judge. And he has threatened people before. Is it worth doing a post about? Hey I know I’ll just do a post about how I thought about doing a post about it because the media bias is so extraordinary, but found I didn’t really care because the guy involved is so sordid, and I’ll post it as a stream of consciousness and wow that’s lame OK gotta go to work sigh publish

  5. He’s been a master political operative for decades, and his words and acts have been deliberate. I don’t believe him when he said it was just a random photo from the Internet. He doesn’t appear to believe his own words either, not after he apologized to the court, not for the photograph, but for the “improper photograph and comment posted on Instagram”. I don’t believe that Stone makes innocent mistakes in the political arena.

  6. That’s the most ridiculous headline reference to “gun violence” I’ve ever read.

  8. (a) the “he posted a picture of her with a target” story is silly.

    (b) but posting it all appears to have violated a gag order, and the judge is not having it:

    (c) but maybe the goal is to get the judge to overreact and thereby convince his fans (and Trump’s) that she’s biased and no fair trial can be had?

his job has long involved manipulating the media for political purposes, and presumably he’s good at it or he wouldn’t have kept it.

  9. It’s more like lifelong nutjob. Crosshairs or White Supremaacist Celtic Cross is irrelevant. The republishing of the judge’s photo, in reference to his case, is the hostile act. Telling his loonie fans “That’s her!” with an implied “Sic ‘her!”.

or lay the political foundation for a pardon on the grounds that the judge was *obviously* biased.

  28. And this was the only image of the judge the web-savvy Stone cold source? And if the organization’s ‘logo’ had been, say, a swastika, or the Trump Organization instead?

The intent appears clear; the ‘apology’ contrived; the attention gotten, message told, bell rung. The judge cannot un-ring it; but she’ll likely send a message of her own to him soon: by ringing his neck to a gag– legally, of course.

  55. Great timing, Stone! With monsters like this lurking around, putting a cross-hairs next to a judge’s head is no laughing matter:

A Coast Guard lieutenant arrested last Friday on gun and drug charges allegedly wanted to conduct a mass killing.

Christopher Paul Hasson, 49, of Silver Spring, Maryland, is alleged to be a white supremacist who had a hit list that included prominent Democratic politicians as well as several journalists from CNN and MSNBC. Hasson’s case was first circulated by counterterrorism expert Seamus Hughes and the George Washington Program on Extremism.
Hasson’s hit list includes Democratic politicians — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of New York, Sens. Chuck Schumer of New York, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Kamala Harris of California, as well as former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas — as well as CNN journalists Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo and Van Jones and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Ari Melber and Joe Scarborough.
