Mandatory Post: CNN Contributor Checks White Privilege of Black Guy

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:16 am

If you haven’t seen this yet, buckle in and enjoy. It’s a CNN contributor telling David Webb to check his white privilege. Problem is: Webb is black.

Life should come with a soundtrack. And the sound effect for this moment is:

  1. True story!

    Colonel Haiku (b51704)

  2. not to be outdone, Mhitt Rhomney’s pretty darn sure Mr. Webb’s a flagrant white supremacist

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  3. You know he counts as an unperson.

    Narciso (2980ef)

  4. You think that’s funny or entertaining?

Well how about a racist Republican congressman, not just a journalist, who votes on a resolution to rebuke himself? Yep!

How do you like them apples?

Meanwhile, our fearless truth-teller bigot claims that “‘I haven’t been following it,’ when asked by reporters about King’s comments.”

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  5. When will he be censured for crimethink?

    bates (dddb3b)

  6. Tillman, i’m waiting for the long line of Democrats to stop embracing Farrakhan and his racist, anti-Semitism.

    Colonel Haiku (b51704)

  7. Haiku, you’re the only one I hear talking about him. He’s been out of the picture for a long time.

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  8. It’s the lack of creativity. I mean how long have they been playing the white privilege song? Can’t they come up with new material? Even gluten has been supplanted by lactose and GMOs are like sooo last decade.

    nk (dbc370)

  9. Farrakhan is a stale comedian whose material yells out for the Apollo Theatre cane at this point, it was the more blatantly “gangster” El Rukns and its predecessor that Black P Stone nation was actually trafficking in weapons back and forth from Libya and other mal-actors in the 1980s.

    urbanleftbehind (5eecdb)

  10. miss hamas and Hezbollah 93, still moves along,

    narciso (d1f714)

  11. Farrakhan isn’t out of the picture. There’s a bit of infighting at the moment amongst the Dems at the failure of the self-appointed “leaders” of the women’s march to refuse to denounce Farrakhan. A problem when you give a legitimate (imo) grass roots movement “official” leaders, especially awful racist opportunists like Sarsour and Mallory. Farrakhan was also sitting like a big fat cat that ate the canary at Aretha Frankin’s funeral. disgusting.

    JRH (fe281f)

  12. Lactose intolerance tests – ice cream socials – are used by white supremacist groups in Eastern Europe to test out recruits to see who sharts their way out of eligibility (i.e. may have Mediterranean or “worse” blood).

    urbanleftbehind (5eecdb)

  13. Any references, JRH?

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  14. i like pears better than apples one of my favorite canapes is just a pear slice with some lox and a thin sliver of jalapeno on top

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  15. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn(D) is a close friend of Farrakhan. In fact the Democrats and their social shock troops are trying a low-key schlep away from him while I write this… https://pjmedia.com/blog/liveblogevent/live-blog-166/entry-250239/

    Colonel Haiku (b51704)

  16. Maybe the Women’s March needs to rid themselves of him. But wake me up when Democratic members of congress start talking racist like too many Republicans are doing, such as King and Agent Orange himself. Your attempt at moral equivalence is pitiful.
    And Putin smiled again.

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  17. My attempt? heh. I didn’t do that sir. I just informed you that Farrakhan is very much in the picture.

    JRH (fe281f)

  18. I’m sure most Dems would like him to go away.

    JRH (fe281f)

  19. He’s not in the picture, that’s only a sideshow and I bet they end up dropping any ties to him in the end anyway.

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  20. It’s Webb’s fault, really. If his first name were Marshawn, the poor dumb lady wouldn’t have made that mistake.

    Paul Montagu (f7d9b7)

  21. But wake me up when Democratic members of congress start talking racist like too many Republicans are doing, such as King and Agent Orange himself.

They do nothing else but talk racist. Just in a different dialect. They get more mileage out of playing the victim, or playing the race card when they get caught with their hand in the till, or claiming white privilege, or blaming the Rothschilds for the weather. Race hustlers and grievance mongers, in short.

    nk (dbc370)

  22. This is like comparing a blemish to a whole head chopped off JRH. There’s no comparison.

Even this ridiculous wall argument has racist underpinnings. Putin’s Poodle doesn’t really care about our security – he wants to poke a stick in the eye of Mexicans. Meanwhile, his racist constituents eat it up. It’s divisive rhetoric tearing our country apart, just as Putin ordered.

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  23. Calypso Louie is a stain on America and should be living in a tunnel in Palestine.

    mg (25ec06)

  24. Just goes to show that “white privilege” is not an observable fact, but is an attack phrase used by progressives who actually have no real argument to make.

    David Longfellow (8cba7a)

  25. Sideshow Tillman…

    Colonel Haiku (b51704)

  26. @23 you keep accusing me of making a comparison/ equivalence. I’ve made no comparison. Both sides tend to elide the racism in their own party. Patterico doen’t, which is one reason I’m here. He shoots straight. But Dems tend to elide the racism in their own party, as it seems you’re doing now.

    JRH (fe281f)

  27. white privilege is a concept developed by ivy league fascists as yet another social-positioning device they can use to signal their consummate virtue (speaking of virtue did you see the scummy Mattis Military’s prance-around-Syria-at-all-costs strategy has virtuously killed some so-far undisclosed number of tatters today)

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  28. “I’ve made no comparison” meaning I’ve made no judgement about which side has the worst or most racism. The comparison I made is the unwillingness to face it and admit it. There, I believe both sides have a problem. Mostly on the xtreme right and extreme left. That’s the problem. “moderate” has become a bad word across the spectrum.

    JRH (fe281f)

  29. neither side’s racist Mr. JRH but they’re both dominated by extremely classist ivy league trash like Barack Obama and Mhitt Rhomney – they hate Americans is all

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  30. I like Mitt and if he ran today I’d vote for him in a hot 5th Avenue minute. :)

    JRH (fe281f)

  31. mormons have made themselves unelectable anymore i think

too many hateful weirdos like Fhlakes and Mhias and Mhitts

    the trust is gone

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  32. Sigh.

    Simon Jester (3575b9)

  33. yes yes it’s all about identity politics anymore

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  34. and Mhitt Rhomney only reinforces that when he does his ivy league fascist virtue signals on Mr. King

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  35. Congratulations to Webb, who joins the ranks of Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall and Bill Clinton in breaking through another color line!

    Dave (1bb933)

  36. Louis Farrakhan’s shtick is that white people were invented by a evil wizard named yacub, it’s right up there with scientology for raw crazy,

    narciso (d1f714)

  37. Mittens is a Democrat plant. Two words – Jonathan Gruber

    mg (25ec06)

  38. white people were invented by a evil wizard named yacub

If this yacub was black (which he must have been, right?) then doesn’t it mean every bad thing ever done by a white person is ultimately the fault of a black person?

    Dave (1bb933)

  39. and he was originally supported in part by gaddafi, in fact one of his branch affiliates, el rukhn was a terrorist wannabe band, and Obama spent serious coin to avoid having his connections to him present, as it was with reverend wright, a fan of castro as well as qaddafi,

    narciso (d1f714)

  40. The most recent illuminating case of the racial double standard is the recent drive-by shooting in Houston, resulting in the murder of 10 year-old Jazmine Barnes.

Since some of the witnesses described the shooter as “ a white man with blue eyes”, Little Jazmine suddenly became a black life that mattered.

Shuan King, a race baiter who has been bitten in the behind before in cases of mistaken identity, declared it an obvious white on black hate crime and started a fund to help find the killer. Famous people such as Lebron James donated funds and helped spread the word. The liberal twitter sphere was filled with hatred and blame for Trump and NRA……..

A Salon column by University of Baltimore Professor D. Watkins called for ‘white America’ to accept responsibility for the ‘terrorist murder’ that took Jazmine’s life. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D., Texas) urged the public to treat the killing as a ‘hate crime’ before any motive was established. Meanwhile, relatives of a white man misidentified by Mr King as a possible suspect were left in fear for their lives after being threatened on Facebook: ‘Someone is going to rape, torture, and murder the women and children in your family.’ Although racialized reporting may be good for clicks, it has dangerous consequences for those caught by the backlash.“

……then they arrested a black man who apparently admitted to the shooting.

The almost complete abandonment of talking about the case and chirp of crickets is palpable.

Racial violence is a fact American society contends with, and over recent decades the media has made strides in responsibly reporting on cases involving historically marginalized groups. Yet, in today’s share-first-read-later world of social media, this interest toward racial issues has produced a perverse incentive. It is race, not our common humanity, that now plays a central role in galvanizing outrage over tragedies. Thus with black suspects in custody and the ‘white-on-black crime’ aspect gone, there’s nothing left to care about — leaving public interest to quickly evaporate.

It is bad enough that those with influence only stood by Jazmine as long as the racial narrative seemed true. It is worse still that this failure is perpetuated repeatedly throughout an informational ecosystem that exploits our issue-centric concerns and short attention spans. The easiness — and profitability — of manipulating our fears over racist violence has serious consequences for social tensions, particularly in a nation so bitterly divided as America in 2019.“

  41. I have liberal white friends who say “never ever trust a white man.” That’s just bafflingly stupid and it’s part of the reason we have Trump imo.

    JRH (fe281f)

  42. “ he wants to poke a stick in the eye of Mexicans.”

Enforcement of federal law is not poking anyone in the eye.

Poking in the eye is more analogous to seeing a long line, sneaking thru the fence and then demanding welfare and voting rights.

    harkin (e15868)

  43. just like with the Sanford matter, they had to erase key facts, in terms of audio and video, to make the narrative work, and they have been dining out on that narrative for coming up on seven years,

No and it’s not the reason Beto came close to unseating Cruz. Dems reach out to brown people. For better or worse, for noble reasons or cynical, they do it. The GOP ought to do so also.

    JRH (fe281f)

  53. What kind of logic is there in saying that being born in America makes you worthy of being a citizen, but crossing a desert on foot for the privilege does not?

  57. Um no, I give him 50 demerits for speaking to the times, but ask greitens if that matters or not in the long run.

    Narciso (2980ef)

  59. And who can forget Ted Kennedy’s offer – documented in writing – to collude with the Soviets before the ‘84 election? Kennedy offered to travel to Moscow to help Soviets gain a better American perspective on problems with nuclear disarmament so that the Soviets would appear more polished re: their dealings with Western media. In return, the Soviets would assist with info that would help the Democrats de-platform Reagan.

And who can forget Ted Kennedy’s offer – documented in writing – to collude with the Soviets before the ‘84 election?

That was really a request that the Soviet Union collude with him. And that was for the 1988 nelection – Tunney said (if the message is accurate) that Ted Kennedy was probably not going to run in 1984)

Kennedy offered to travel to Moscow to help Soviets gain a better American perspective on problems with nuclear disarmament so that the Soviets would appear more polished re: their dealings with Western media.

Kennedy wanted to run the Soviet Union;s nuclear weapons propaganda.

In return, the Soviets would assist with info that would help the Democrats de-platform Reagan.

No,Kennedy indicated he was more interested in 1988.

Anyway, the Soviet Union ignored his offer to improve their propaganda. The members of Brezhnev’s Poliburo were all on the verge if dying, besides.

He was darn sure auditioning for the job in 2012, and his tenure at Bain Capital as a respected leader unquestionably set acceptable management practices throughout the industry. If you supported Romney then, who did all of these things, how can you be shocked when Trump, another businessman well versed in common business dealings, does exactly what Romney would have done…if he were serious about reducing government?

“Trump (at least in theory) is.”

Trump is, quite frankly, braver, smarter, and more important than you, and his goals are by definition more important and more reflective of the American electorate than yours. Since you can’t even support him when he does what you (ostensibly) want in ways that others would have done, my conclusion is that you don’t really know what you want, and you’re just looking for some heroic figure to respect and look up to, rather than someone to do a job and do it by any means necessary.

It all depends on the modeling, so don’t make it out to be an exact science.

    https://insights.som.yale.edu/insights/yale-study-finds-twice-as-many-undocumented-immigrants-as-previous-estimates

    Munroe (3c6490)

  162. It all depends on the modeling, so don’t make it out to be an exact science.

Interesting, but it cuts both ways:

While the findings are startling, they aren’t describing a new situation. “We wouldn’t want people to walk away from this research thinking that suddenly there’s a large influx happening now,” says Feinstein. “It’s really something that happened in the past and maybe was not properly counted or documented.”

Kaplan adds, “What we’re saying is the number has been higher all along.”

    and also:

“One of the most common arguments in favor of a tougher immigration policy is that undocumented immigrants are coming with a lot of criminality,” Kaplan notes. But paradoxically, the new findings may undercut that argument. He points out that previous studies, based on the widely accepted total of 11.3 million undocumented immigrants, found that the rate of serious crimes committed by these immigrants is lower than for U.S. citizens. The new findings suggest that the rate is even lower than previously believed: “You have the same number of crimes but now spread over twice as many people as was believed before, which right away means that the crime rate among undocumented immigrants is essentially half whatever was previously believed.”

The GOP has become the drunken frat-boy party — and it sees no reason to sober up
Traditional Republican presidents such as Calvin Coolidge, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George H.W. Bush were not very exciting, but they were very responsible. They wanted to manage the government effectively and to live within our means. Those days are long gone. The GOP has metamorphosed from the preternaturally mature “Father Knows Best” party to the perpetually juvenile “Van Wilder” party. It wants to live it up, moon the grown-ups and dodge the consequences.

    Narciso (d35bdd)

  185. nk, you have no clue how many people are born who have ambiguous or dual sex organs. Just like everything else in nature, there are some things that are different. But that doesn’t mean they’re evil. I knew a boy who had webbed hands and feed for example. Yes a man’s brain in a woman’s body is possible and vice-versa. Nature is indifferent. It’s ignorant in this day and time to be unaware of that.

It’s not the same thing as gender dysphoria (the opposite of euphoria) which is purely a pathologized mood disorder or paraphilia. Junk medicine, no pun intended.

And I am not entirely unsympathetic. When I was very young, I also felt that I was a male trapped in a woman’s body. But my condition was ameliorated by my birth.

    nk (dbc370)

  188. People who suffer from gender dysphoria rarely escape the dysphoria no matter the steps taken to correct it.

Maybe the dysphoria is not as gender related as some think.

    harkin (e6b10c)

  189. How indifferent is nature?

A certain type of wasp doesn’t kill its prey, but pulls it back to its den, so its larva can feed on it, while it’s still alive:

It needs the arachnid’s body to host its single larva, which grows inside the spider’s body and eats it from the inside out, careful to avoid the vital organs so as to maximize the time it can keep the spider alive.
As the immobilized spider was dragged into the dark depths of a wasp nest, all it had to look forward to was weeks of being trapped and eaten alive.

Nature doesn’t care if it shocks any of our sensibilities, it’s purely opportunistic – no morality applies.

Insects don’t matter to you? There are numerous, gruesome examples that apply to other species too. For example baby sharks, at least for some species, eat each other alive in their mother’s womb, before they’re even born. Nature can be beyond indifferent and into sickening.

So a person born with a brain with one sex, and sex organs of another should not be shocking to anyone.
