“Sloppy Steve” Bannon Considering Lawsuit Against Trump

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 10:30 pm

Keep that popcorn a-poppin’! First President Donald J. Trump fired off a tweet with arguably his most awesome nickname yet — “Sloppy Steve,” referring to Breitbart News Chairman Stephen K. Bannon:

Oh yeah! Also Trump is gonna sue Bannon! Ya gonna take that, Sloppy Steve? Huh? Are ya?

Perhaps not:

The feud between President Trump and his ex-svengali Steve Bannon could see another courtroom escalation after a new hint that Bannon may sue for defamation.

The possible legal move comes after a Trump attorney fired off a cease-and-desist letter demanding Bannon cease disparaging comments about Trump, in possible violation of a non-disclosure agreement.

High-profile defense lawyer Mark Geragos floated the idea in an appearance on CNN, asked if Bannon might make a defamation case.

‘I have it on pretty good authority that he’s considering that,’ Geragos said, immediately referencing a Trump statement from Wednesday saying Bannon had ‘lost his mind.’

Hey, look. When a story is this good, Mark Geragos saying he has it on “pretty good authority” is good enough for me!

More popcorn!

And keep in mind that, as long as Trump is insulting Sloppy Steve, he’s insulting a guy who doesn’t have a nuclear button on his desk.

Not even a small one.

And that is a win, I say.

It is a skill. Ask Don Draper and Roger Sterling; they’re ‘Mad Men,’ too.

Speaking of which, I’m sure Omarosa will clear all this up! Remember, she “has a profound story to tell that people will want to hear.” I can’t wait!

Yesterday, S.E. Cupp had Sean Spicer on her program, and they played a word association game that included this exchange:

    Cupp: “Omarosa”

    Spicer: (Long pause) “Person”

(Even “Anthony Scaramucci” got a vaguely responsive “Interesting” out of Spicey…)

  13. No attorney who says he has it on good authority in public has it on good authority. If he did, somebody is revealing a client confidence and that’s a no-no. There have been occasions when Geragos seemed like a good lawyer to me but overall he is just another media [rhymes with door], an Allred with a moustache.

  14. And it was on CNN. Disinformation a/k/a lies, to pour oil on the fire. To escalate the quarrel between Trump and Bannon. Also to alienate Trump supporters from Breitbart.com and leave mg — our fellow commenter mg — as its entire readership.

Have you ever listened to Bannon talk on his shows, nk? He loves this country and has been calling history before it happens. He saw Brexit coming way before anyone else. And he believed Trump would win. The other personalities at Breitbart are well worth the listen.
    Besides I love his fashion.

Now, like two rats in a bag, Trump and Bannon are tearing at one another in a delicious public spat that has every possible bit of drama, except Bannon drunkenly bellowing for a round of fisticuffs with all comers and Trump offering to compare the length of their relative manhoods on live television. They deserve one another in so many ways.

  38. the truth is often much simpler: The president is just live-tweeting Fox, particularly the network’s Trump-loving morning show, Fox & Friends.

It’s no secret, of course, that the president likes to tweet about what he sees on TV. Thanks to diligent reporting from the White House beat, we know Trump often watches several hours of cable news each day via the “Super TiVo” he had installed at the White House. And journalists at CNN, the Washington Post, New York magazine, among others, have compiled lists of Trump tweets they believe were inspired by Fox.

But here’s what is shocking: After comparing the president’s tweets to Fox coverage every day since October, I can tell you that the Fox-Trump feedback loop is happening far more often than you think. There is no strategy to Trump’s Twitter feed; he is not trying to distract the media. He is being distracted. He darts with quark-like speed from topic to topic in his tweets because that’s how cable news works.

  40. “It was during Trump’s early intelligence briefings … that alarm signals first went off among his new campaign staff: he seemed to lack the ability to take in third-party information.”
“Or maybe he lacked the interest; whichever, he seemed almost phobic about having formal demands on his attention.”
“Trump didn’t read. He didn’t really even skim. … [H]e could read headlines and articles about himself, or at least headlines on articles about himself, and the gossip squibs on the New York Post’s Page Six.”
“Some … concluded that he didn’t read because he just didn’t have to, and that in fact this was one of his key attributes as a populist. He was postliterate — total television.”
“[H]e trusted his own expertise — no matter how paltry or irrelevant — more than anyone else’s. What’s more, he had an extremely short attention span, even when he thought you were worthy of attention.”

  41. If you think you know everything about how the president feels about women, listen as former co-chief of staff and chief strategist Steve Bannon relays the president’s disgust for Yates. Trump, Wolff writes, was up against the Justice Department but thought he was “up against Sally Yates, who was, he steamed, such a c—t.”

For its crudity and window into Trump’s misogynistic mind, this is as as revealing as the Access Hollywood tape. The “c” word, which still has the power to shock, was reportedly employed by the president to describe the former acting Attorney General of the United States for taking actions in her official capacity he didn’t like.

Breitbart News chairman Stephen Bannon on Wednesday was about to issue a statement praising Donald Trump Jr. and disputing his quotes in a book from Michael Wolff, but the statement was spiked after President Trump went nuclear on his former chief strategist.

Oh, and….The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 44% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-four percent (54%) disapprove. Attention! not 35%.

  47. I would like to thank President Trump for his policy of reducing taxes and reducing regulations both of which created an atmosphere conducive to business once again in America. I’d also like to thank Paul Krugman who stated that the economy under a Trump presidency would suffer and the market would crash and continue down. Krugman being a failed economist, a leftist hack and basically a full blown communist who gets a pass by people letting him get away with the “Keynesian” label proved to me once more to do exactly the opposite of his “predictions”. My wife sold her salons this year which gave us an influx of cash but I managed to gain in the mid six digits sitting on my butt and doing trades on my laptop whilst reading Politico on my other laptop. To all of you who made a lot in your investment accounts and IRA’s this year I’m sure you’ll find a way not to credit Trump even after eight years of giving Da One credit for lethargic growth.

Perhaps once again under a capitalist America’s business will be business instead of Obama who made America’s business “spreading the wealth around” and apologizing to the world. Cause “at some point a person has enough” and he’s just the guy to decide who and at what point.

    Rev.Hoagie (6bbda7)

  48. 52:

Unleashing the oil and gas industry is the biggest story, Rev. It is impossible to overstate the positive reverberations it will bring to our economy and foreign policy. The tax revenue raised and our political foes’ loss of leverage will reap dividends for decades.
