  2. A hearty laugh is the exact right response, no more and no less. Don’t feed the troll. Trolls aren’t making good-faith arguments, they’re just throwing stuff out there to provoke a reaction. It’s not worth spending the time making rational arguments because they aren’t interested in rational argument. This insult-comic shtick is gonna get real old real fast.

  3. Trump is like a duck in water surrounded by that indecorous mob – only he’s better at it.

If the past election season is any indication, what we’ll see is a further escalation of their boorish behavior – I believe Einstein called this the definition of insanity – which plays right into Trump’s hands. Calling for “decorum” is a clever gambit given the press pool’s own narcissism. Well played!

By the bye, I think Trump’s plan to move and expand the briefing room – ostensibly to accommodate bloggers – is simply brilliant. What better way to undermine the stature and market value of the current White House Press Corps? Trump does understand supply and demand.

  4. I did not have the pleasure of knowing him, although I was a big fan of Andrew Breitbart. His taking over the Anthony Weiner press conference was a brilliant use of already assembled media for his own purposes. I often wonder what he would have thought and said about the current political milieu. He was way ahead of his time in fully understanding media modus operandi and also the weaknesses there to be exploited as they have been so well by Trump and his spokespeople. I think Andrew would have absolutely LOVED all this.

  7. Trump knows how to pluck the strings on this zither and it’s music to America’s ears.

He’s been playing the media a siren’s song from his perch near Lincoln Center for 35 years. When he does a meet-and-eat at Manhattan’s famed Russian Tea Room, they’ll have kittens– and copy for a week.

Rule of thumb. If it’s based upon a Hillary Clinton smear campaign, best not to present it on your own blog.

Did ya know Clinton inc. closed down their charity. Transferred the funds to a Middle East bank.

Was it all of the funds? Is the Clinton clan claiming poverty again?

How about that Obama.?Sending US troops to station in Poland, like he has no stake in come what may.

  18. #13 papertiger, as you know, Barack’s playing Russian Roulette with the lives of 3,000 American troops by sending them to Poland. Putin says it’s provocative, but Barack’s strategy is to force Mr Donald’s hand very early during his Presidency.
If Mr Donald leaves the troops there, then he’s being provocative toward Russia. But if Mr Donald withdraws the troops, then the MSM will characterize it as if he’s “backing down from Putin because he’s Putin’s stooge.

Naturally, Barack’s the punk who lifted the missile defense shield from eastern Europe several years ago. But I doubt the Jim Acostas and Donnie Lemons of the world will point that out to the low information voters.

  19. I mean that he’s acting like he’s a popular leader whom a lot of people like when, in fact, for most of the people who voted for him, he is the lesser of two weevils. The source of his authority is only the law for the majority of Americans, and not his personal qualities, leadership skills or charisma.

It’s a strange way to run a railroad but it’s his call.

  26. The decorum, btw, is for the office, not the man. I would hope that President Trump can maintain a front, at least, but in any event reporters should at least respect the office. They did it for Obama.

  29. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2016/03/28/peter-gleick-resigns-as-president-of-pacific-institute-because-of-fakegate/

In 2012, Gleick stole the identity of a Heartland board member (committing identity theft, a federal crime) and used it to commit a second crime (stealing and revealing confidential documents from a competitor, industrial espionage). He confessed to both crimes, but not to a third crime, libel, which he very likely committed by forging a document and lying repeatedly to his allies — and then to the general public and to his own board of directors — about the true origins of that document. He has yet to confess to that crime. This whole hoary incident is called Fakegate and is documented on this site. http://fakegate.org/

We knew or should have known that we would get no justice from Obama’s politicized DOJ .
    Now we have President Trump.

The statute of limitations on Gleick’s crimes runs five years … to February 2017, a month after a new president is installed in office. Interesting timing.

What a wonderful thing it would be to have Peter Gleick finally brought to account.

Might change Boxer Jrs. tone while questioning appointees.

  33. One of the reasons the left wins is that their serious people fall in behind and support an imperfect leader.

They refrain from back-biting, carping, insults and criticize discreetly, politely, supportively and usefully.

The rabble on both right and left shoot off their mouths offensively.

I am surprised by what I read here. No wonder Republican leaders have it so tough and fail so often – they often must fight on two fronts.

Back in my lawyering days I never found it useful to call someone I had to persuade a feckless arsehole, even if, like Trump, he might have been one.

I wish I could persuade a fine blogger to reconsider his position a bit and think how his influence could help Trump move towards better policies and tactics.

  35. 24 and 25. You don’t have to log on to RedState to read it. I can’t see any comments, or anyw ay for anyone to comment.

There’s a big post there about Donald Trump merely repeating what he said before about heath care and an argument he’s for single payer, in spite of his denials. I think it’s pretty obvious that the core of what he’s for is a universal refundable tax credit against health care expenses,, maybe higher as a person’s age goes up, open to anyone with a Social Security number, which would also replace most of Medicaid and CHIP, as well as Obamacare.

It probably still needs more work. It’s easy to come up with something that’s incomplete, or that doesn’t work for 5% or 3% of the people.

Particular attention needs to be paid to how pre-existing conditions are taken care of. Age is not the only pre-existing condition. A pre-existing condition is anything that would legitimately raise a person’s deductible or premium.

It probably needs a doughnut hole, plus a way for everyone to fill it. It needs incentives to pay for more things out of pocket because otehrwise prices are irrational and too high. It needs to make narrow networks rare. It needs protection against surprise billing.

I would also eliminate co-pays for unscheduled doctor’s visits, and put them back in for scheduled ones and maybe limit the number of “unscheduled” visits a medical office could be paid for. something needs to be there to encourage telephone conversations, which are not now reimbursed, and home or short trip visits by nurses.

It needs to create a situation where people don’t have to research prices, but prices are advertised.

What should also probably be included in the same bill is something giving people – or their proxies – control of their medical records for little or no fees.

Some thing should be paid for off the top to avoid paying for it double or triple, like perhaps medical education, hospital construction, and doctor’s offies – set maybe at the 85th percentile.

  37. Greetings:

Several weeks back, i saw Mr. Spicer being “interviewed” by Ms. Judy Woodruff on the Progressive (née Public) Broadcasting System’s “NewsHour” program. I can’t remember the entrapping question the mature woman asked, but Mr. Spicer’s answer made her gag in the way one does when one throws up in one’s own mouth.

As President Lincoln purported said about General Grant, “he fights”.

  42. A way to look positively on developments here: are we looking at the beginning of a new party system?

The populist and nationalist faction of the Republican party joining up with the blue collar faction of the Democrats: these are still called “Republican” and Trump is their first President. Populist, nationalist, protectionist, “isolationist” (I don’t care for the word, like “lie” or “murder” it’s an explicit criticism but it gets the point across).

The #NeverTrump, free market and free trade factions of the Republican party joining up with the liberal (as opposed to progressive) faction of the Democratic party, probably still called “Democrats”. The media can probably get on board with it if it wins elections, since they are fundamentally power worshipers. Globalist, interventionist, using free trade and free markets to fund a welfare state.

Before 2016 we had a center-right party moving leftward more slowly than a center-left party that was moving leftward. After 2016, a right-of-center-right party and a center-center party.

And the progressives, socialists, and SJWs go howling into the political wilderness.

    I can hope anyway.

  43. There’s an interesting opinion piece over at Fox News written by Robert Charles, a former Assistant Secretary of State under George W. Bush. Charles writes:

“The unspoken message (of the confirmation hearings) is heartening. The nominees are not newbies. Nor are they misaligned with their assigned missions. They are seasoned professionals. And they are acting that way. They are proving candid and deep, sensible, at times even sage. They know the ropes, their fields, the challenges that lie ahead of them – and respect Congress. Or at least that is the distinct impression they leave.”

“Trump appointees have been rocks, displaying mettle, method, and the power of focus. If this is how they all shake out, we know how the Trump Administration will conduct policy – they will go after — and get — results.”

    Isn’t that what really matters?

My advice to any reporter who feels that his or her organization has been wronged is to voice the objection once, then let his employer raise any objections they have in the medium they have control over. Having their reporters demand attention only to be slapped down just makes them look pathetic.

I hope you’re wrong. Then someone like me, who is an actual conservative*, will be left without a party.

  57. “57.@ Gabriel Hanna, #43:

I hope you’re wrong. Then someone like me, who is an actual conservative*, will be left without a party.”

Duh! There hasn’t been a party for us actual conservatives for a long long time. The Republican Party sure hasn’t been anywhere near actual conservative since Reagan. They’ve just been the WashingTon Generals to the Democrats.

The thing about thie election is that Trump caused all the masks to drop. It really is the Cloud People and the Dirt People, and the RNC and DNC are just two factions of the former. Actual conservative — as opposed to Official True Conservatives — have had no party representing them. Perhaps Trump will, perhaps not — but for sure none of the other 16 Republican candidates running were.

  58. @Demosthenes:Then someone like me, who is an actual conservative*, will be left without a party.

I’m not a conservative, and I wouldn’t have a party in the circumstance I outlined anymore than I do now.

  59. @fred-2:The thing about this election is that Trump caused all the masks to drop.

    I agree with this.

    Gabriel Hanna (61adec)

  60. @ fred-2, #58:

Duh! There hasn’t been a party for us actual conservatives for a long long time.

Whether there has ever truly been a party for conservatives is a subject for debate. Your claim to be a conservative is not up for debate, because it is patently false. You are a Trumper. There is a difference, and I understand what it is, even if you (and sadly, a great many people I once took to be conservatives) do not.

    Demosthenes (09f714)

  61. To follow on from my thought at #61, because I fear I posted too quickly:

You may not agree with, say, Ted Cruz. Or Scott Walker. Or Bobby Jindal. Or Marco Rubio. But those four men, even setting aside the other candidates, have all represented conservatism more or less well in the past. (Yes, I know. Amnesty for Rubio. Still, by any measure, he’s far more conservative than Trump ever was or ever could be. If you drum them out of the movement — again, I stress, the movement you are obviously not in — by saying that they did not represent conservatives, then I’ll just lump you in with the Flat Earthers and the anti-vaxxers as people whose idiocy needs no reply.

    Demosthenes (09f714)

  62. A political party is only viable when it wins elections.
Goldwater was very unwavering in his principles in 1964, but not a single person has ever visited the Barry Goldwater Presidential Library.

On the other hand, Reagan’s big tent won three straight elections (Reagan (2) + H.W. Bush (1)).
And the Reagan Presidential Library is a popular tourist attraction.
