Donald Trump Is the Next President; UPDATE: Hillary Concedes

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 11:26 pm

I was waiting for Hillary’s concession speech, but Wikileaks-disgraced scumbag Podesta has already come out and told us: she won’t concede tonight.

Odd. I thought Chris Wallace told us that our tradition is that the loser concedes to the winner.

Oh well. I can’t “congratulate” such an awful cretin. Fuck this guy. He’s a ridiculous ignorant clown. His election is a giant disgrace.

Excuse me! Excuse me! But let’s try to look at the bright side. Conservatives will keep the court. Somewhere, Antonin Scalia is smiling. And Trumper jackasses can’t blame me for the shit Hillary does. That’s pretty awesome.

Sure, there might be a nuclear holocaust, if the head of Denmark insults Trump. But hey. You take the bad with the good.

SO LONG, HILLARY! You now die a disgraced former Secretary of State. Concede and leave. Get off the stage. Now. Does anyone have the giant hook? Please go get the giant hook.

UPDATE: Hillary has phoned Trump to concede.

UPDATE x2 11-9-16 7 a.m.: I still think he is an awful cretin. I still think his election is a disgrace (but so would have Hillary’s). But, now that the shock (and the Macallan Gold!) has worn off, I’ll congratulate him.

I’m not wrong about the kind of person he is. I’d like to be proved wrong about whether that matters to what he does. I suspect I won’t be proved completely wrong. But I hope I am proved at least somewhat wrong.

  1. And with that, I’m off to bed.

    Patterico (115b1f)

  2. Well, here’s the thing: the media hates Trump, and the civil service (except maybe ICE) hates Trump.

And the Senate and the House are kept.

So I think there’s a lot more here for #NeverTrump than a Hillary victory would have.

And if recounts and lawsuits pull this out for her… the price exacted will be terrible, she will see to it she is never frightened this way again.

    Gabriel Hanna (c791b9)

  3. Wow. Did not see him winning. On the positive side, Clinton loses, the Court should be safe, lots of leftist tears, and lots of disappointment in store for Trumpalos. On the negative side, Trump wins, the country seems to like big government politicians, we’ll get more big government, and lots of disappointment for lovers of liberty.

    Patrick Henry, the 2nd (2ab6f6)

  4. Dude, I generally like and agree… but chill. Election sucked. Some of us that agree with you 99% of the time are happy she didn’t win. I think she was a much greater risk to start a nuclear war than he is. Lady is stoned most of the time!

Have a good one. On Thursday I’ll start railing against trumps tromping on the constitution but for the next day I’ll enjoy preventing the greater evil..

  9. It is very, very good to remind our “betters” that in the end it is up to we, the people.

There’s at least going to be a short reprieve from the snark and the condescension.

In the meantime, as I said before everything we knew turned out to be wrong, it is time for #MAGA, #NeverTrump, and #NeverHillary to have a mutual amnesty. Trump, bless his heart, is going to need a lot of help stay on the right path. We can’t let him “grow in office”. We need to encourage our Congress to reassume its proper role.

    Gabriel Hanna (c791b9)

  10. According to MSNBC exit polls, Trump got a higher proportion of the Latino vote than Romney did. Doesn’t fit the narrative.

No, it doesn’t. Because ethnic groups are not tidy little stereotypes, but human beings with motives we can’t sum up in or two lines.

    Gabriel Hanna (c791b9)

  11. Such a weird fucking moment. He’s coming on stage now for his acceptance speech.

My lefty friends are wondering what they will tell their children tomorrow morning.

  12. Hmmm, Pence’s son (or son-in-law?) doesn’t seem to care much for the President-elect.

  14. He’s doing the gracious thing.

    JVW (6e49ce)

  15. He’s being self-effacing. This is actually a pretty good speech and I think he’s improvising it.

  16. This could turn out to be a good thing. Start the countdown for impeachment, and President Pence.

  20. Surprisingly good speech.

    JVW (6e49ce)

  22. Wow, it turns out he is actually gracious!

Oh wait. It turns out he is a giant piece of shit who reads gracious crap written by Kellyanne Conway from a TelePrompTer.

    Patterico (115b1f)

  23. Speaking of Kellyanne Conway, does she go down as the greatest campaign manager in history?

    JVW (6e49ce)

  24. After all the abuse and the snark and the condescension, the deplorables have won … God Bless Donald Trump and God Bless the USA.

  27. Don’t worry, she’ll unconcede if any of the big states are in the margin of fraud or litigation.

If she doesn’t, I bet the faithless elector in WA has some company. Wouldn’t it be something if half her EC votes went to Bernie? That might put a knife in the heart of the Clinton Foundation.

It’s the Obama Foundation we now need to watch out for.

  35. This could turn out to be a good thing. Start the countdown for impeachment, and President Pence.

    Patterico (115b1f)

  36. A quote from that article in The Nation that I linked to above:

Here is the scary truth: This is the election in which a vocal minority of white people began to see themselves as a minority, and to act as a self-conscious minority group, with interests that are separate from those of other ethnicities.

Yeah, it sucks when the other side learns to play the grievance game which your side has perfected, doesn’t it lefty?

    JVW (6e49ce)

  37. @Patterico:

Boswell:”Have not they vexed yourself a little, Sir? Have not you been vexed by all the turbulence of this reign, and by that absurd vote of the House of Commons, ‘That the influence of the Crown has increased, is increasing, and ought to be diminished’?”

Johnson:”Sir, I have never slept an hour less, nor eat an ounce less meat. I would have knocked the factious dogs on the head, to be sure; but I was not vexed.”

Boswell:”I declare, Sir, upon my honour, I did imagine I was vexed, and took a pride in it; but it was, perhaps, cant; for I own I neither ate less, nor slept less.”

Johnson:”My dear friend, clear your mind of cant. You may talk as other people do: you may say to a man, ‘Sir, I am your most humble servant. You are not his most humble servant. You may say, ‘These are sad times; it is a melancholy thing to be reserved to such times.” You don’t mind the times. You tell a man, “I am sorry you had such bad weather the last day of your journey, and were so much wet.” You don’t care six-pence whether he was wet or dry. You may talk in this manner; it is a mode of talking in Society; but don’t think foolishly.”

This is my indirect way of asking you to apply the banhammer lightly for a bit. We’ve all been under a bit of stress.

    Reporters: “Damn unions…”

Le Petomane: What are you crazy?! Don’t put that in the paper! I’ll lose the blue-collar vote!

    Gabriel Hanna (c791b9)

  46. Remember President Obama stating with certainty last year that he had great faith in the American people and that there’s no way they’d elect Donald Trump as President. ‘Donald Trump will never be President.’

World markets are in panic. Because they’re going to have to start paying their bills to the USA.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  47. Ha, Clinton won almost 93% of the vote in Washington, DC. Yeah, we’ll be granting those idiots statehood on the fourth of never.

    JVW (6e49ce)

  48. Question: What’s the statute on contempt of Congress? Will the incoming DOJ still be able to prosecute Holder and if so will they do so?

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  49. Or will 0bama pardon him together with Clinton, Lerner, etc?

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  50. ” . I can’t “congratulate” such an awful cretin. Fuck this guy. He’s a ridiculous ignorant clown. His election is a giant disgrace.”

WOW – Patterico is clearly deep into Trump Derangement Syndrome. He needs to get back on his meds…stat. We have a President elect. How bout showing just a wee bit of class…or is that beyond the NeverTrump Quislings?

    Bill Saracino (7bbb9e)

  51. Oh well. I can’t “congratulate” such an awful cretin. F-ck this guy. He’s a ridiculous ignorant clown. His election is a giant disgrace.

As President-elect of the United States of America.

    And a winner.

  52. With all due respect, what we are witnessing is democracy, warts and all. I believe it was
Churchill who said something to the effect that democracy was the worst form of government
that anybody has ever come up with, until you consider all the alternatives. The defeat of
the Clintons is historic and long overdue. Some people grow in power, while others become
corrupt. Let’s pray and hope for growth.

    Phil (3a73a2)

  53. And the real irony is in the middle of the night, when Hillary got that ‘phone call’— how did she respond? She sent an aide out, told her followers to go home and failed to even display the courtesy to her people or the nation of showing up to concede. Putting it off ’til the next morning.

    No class.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  54. McMullin might have cost Trump Minnesota

  55. Careful how you fight the beast, lest you become one yourself. I wonder, do you throw yourself to the ground and kick your arms and legs when you lose a case?

    Estarcarus (9f79f5)

  56. Damn straight! I have never backed a loser. Some of you here who know me can attest to that. When I tell you someone’s gonna win, you better take it to the bank. Trump is POTUS 45. Hillary is going to prison.

    The Emperor (1d3cc9)

  57. Trump had short coattails in Houston: Dems swept today’s local judiciary races. By contrast, Romney’s coattails elected Republican judges in Harris County in 2012. But given the number of states he very improbably carried tonight and the size of his electoral college victory, it would be ungracious to carp about this.

Congratulations to the next Mayor of Trumpkin Land President of the United States; congratulations to Kellyanne Conway, who obviously managed to win the arm-wrestling for control of Trump’s Twitter account; congratulations to Trumps supporters and to all in the much larger group who celebrate Hillary’s loss. Congratulations to all who are enjoying the mainstream media and commentariat commissars as they melt down.

One hopes for the best, despite all history and experience with this guy which portends something else.

The upcoming transition period is likely to be amusing, since the mainstream media will collectively shake off its astonishment to crank their outrage dials even past 11; but he’s surely going to make them privately thrilled with the ratings they’ll get, and he’ll be thrilled himself with the perpetual face-time he’ll get, while they feud.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  58. @DCSCA. My point exactly. She showed no class in how she treated her supporters. Sending them home like that under false pretext was quintessential Hillary Clinton. All about her and no one else. Disgraceful

    The Emperor (1d3cc9)

  59. On second thought, I believe I was mistaken in my remark above regarding Romney’s coat-tails. I was confusing the 2012 results with those of 2014, an off-year election. Mea culpa.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  60. Another thing…Fox News reported in the 6 PM ET hour that the exit polling said there would be a 56% female turnout, and that late deciders broke 53-37 for HRC.

Now, they are reporting the exit polling was 52/53% women turnout, and late deciders were 46-44 for DJT.

  62. Congratulations to President-elect Trump and to his supporters.

    DRJ (15874d)

  63. Liberals are distraught at losing the Presidency and Congress, and it is a repudiation by the voters. I think it is a repudiation of 8 years of Obama.

    DRJ (15874d)

  64. Wow. I’m honestly shocked that this wasn’t a blowout landslide for Hillary. I’m man enough to admit I was utterly wrong. I also hope my warnings about what kind of President Trump will be are wrong. Like I rooted for Obama to succeed I will root for Trump to succeed.

Congrats to Trump’s fans. I’m sure this is a great thing for them. I hope the ugliness they are showing tonight isn’t a long term thing but I’m not holding my breath.

Back to not commenting here. Love the bloggers here but the endless ugliness from the trolls makes it very tedious to participate. Just like with the fringe left, many devout partisans think basic respect and honesty are expendable in this internet battle they think they are waging.

Let’s all pray for Trump to be an honorable and humble President who keeps his word on a number of issues from the Supreme Court to immigration to deficit reduction.

“Congrats to Trump’s fans. I’m sure this is a great thing for them. I hope the ugliness they are showing tonight isn’t a long term thing but I’m not holding my breath.” Dustin

    What ugliness do you see?

Oh well, after all of his support and kind advice for Trump I am sure Patterico, formerly an influential conservative pundit, will have much influence with the Trump administration.

    Fred Z (b0a041)

  69. Who lied and when?

Why assume anyone lied? The obvious explanation is that things changed after 6. That between 4 and 6 women and people who’d just decided for Clinton flocked to the polls, while after 6 there was a similar surge among men and people who’d just decided for Trump.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  70. oh she’s done with the free speeches

why buy the pig if you get the milk for free

I think feets may have redeemed himself with this comment.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  71. Milhouse ,

That was actually one of the first questions that occurred to me after the shock wore off this morning. Will Obama issue blanket pardons?

You read the stories about how much Obama dislikes HRC and wonder if there might be hope he won’t.

    Soronel Haetir (5497c1)

  72. #59 Ed from SFV, friend, that’s what we were telling you last night; exit polling isn’t scientific.

    urbanleftbehind (a9ef6b)

  76. Also, FOX may have reverted to its 2004 election form of being alarmist (they were always hyping a Kerry Victory in comparison to CBS pretending a Bush victory). It may have delivered the FL panhandle, the UP and Wiscy, those areas still open for an hour.

  77. It wasn’t her party and she’ll cry if she wants to.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  78. The cluelessness of the Left never ceases to amaze. From National Soros Radio:

And when a Muslim couple with ties to ISIS killed 14 people and wounded 22 more in San Bernardino on Dec. 2, 2015, many campaign pros thought Trump would fade as a candidate. After all, he had no military service and no previous office.

Holy guacamole! These dipsticks think that a terrorist attack on American soil by Obama’s homies, with Obama’s response being to disarm Americans, should have hurt Trump. Words fail.

    nk (dbc370)

  79. Well said, Dustin. I, also, thought hillary would win. Congratulations to Trump and to the tenacity of voters like Ropelight, who didn’t let the bastards

Even after Trump’s well said speech.

Seems to me, Patterico has set the bar. Everything a candidate says must now be implemented.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  84. Shouldn’t we be preparing for “the big send off” when all the talking heads and celebrities sell off their possessions and move to Canada, Australia or wherever they threatened, oops sorry, promised to move if Trump won? When’s the party start?

    Rev. Hoagie® (785e38)

  85. There’s lots about “what can we tell our children”. Having filled them for months with dread of the bogeyman, now the poor kids are traumatised, afraid to go to school, thinking the world has come to an end. And I just overheard a woman passing outside my window, on the phone with someone at the top of her voice, saying “they’re traumatised“. Hey, you caused the problem, you fix it. Tell them you were wrong. Tell them now that although Trump may not be a good person, he’s no more frightening than Clinton or 0bama, and he’s not going to eat them or throw them into prison or steal their pink rabbits.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  86. The liberal media is focusing on what Trump and Congress will do to heal a divided nation and reassure a stunned world. The ones who are actually stunned are the reporters.

Had Hillary won, my guess is the discussion would have focused on her mandate.

  90. 84… yes, DRJ. Imagine how unsettling it would feel to have your whole world turned upside down. I don’t think a lot of these people had the slightest clue about what was about to happen. As Netanyahu said, “welcome to a true friend of Israel.” The European elites are the stunned ones.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

    Patterico (115b1f)

  94. 90. Wrong, you left WJC out out the mix.

    Colonel Haiku (a7e08c)

  95. WJC was not known to be an adulterer at the time of his election. He vigorously denied Gennifer Flowers’s accusations, and Hillary’s henchmen Sid and James worked full time to discredit them; most voters believed him.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  96. Four years of not picking college hoops brackets.

  97. Only Trump’s supporters stand to be disappointed, Patterico. Or not. They are the ones invested. And like I said before, I would not have been any happier had Hillary won.

But I wish him well, too. The election is over. That’s what democracy means. When the votes are counted you accept the result and live with it.

(No, the primary was not the same thing. The GOP is not the nation.)

    Pinandpuller (dd360c)

  100. 92 and 90. …adulterer by largest plurality of popular vote?

    94. Speaking of Duke, why does LA not just do what Cali does now with regard to jungle primaries – move the jungle session to Spring (I get not having them in September with hurricanes and such), but this November to December thing is weird.

    Colonel Haiku (a7e08c)

  103. What does this election say about how Americans view the media?

    AZ Bob (f7a491)

  104. Recent elections show a popular vote of 59-61 million for each Party’s candidate. The exceptions were the Obama elections, where he turned out 69M votes in 2008 and 65M votes in 2012. Those votes didn’t show up for Hillary but, despite the hype, they didn’t show up for Trump either. This was another 59M-59M election.

Paul Ryan just said Trump earned a mandate. I guess he’s on the Trump Train now, because I don’t see a mandate based on the early numbers.

    DRJ (15874d)

  105. @102- Ryan is doing Ralph Kramden.

    He wont be Speaker.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  106. Agree with post 91. Thanks for returning to rationality – we can start ripping on trump tomorrow. I’m still a constitutional conservative; but hey the good news is that the half of the country that loved imperial rule will now be constitutional conservatives too!

Have a great day man. Thanks for the site.

    all the best,

    Carlos (bea886)

  107. @milhouse: most voters believed him.

Which WJC was this? I’m pretty sure most voters assumed he did it and didn’t hold it against him.

  108. Good morning. Are you all watching the media pretending to stumble around and wonder how “the polls” managed to get it so wrong?

“… there is a very important detail which must be forever etched in the bloodstream of our republic to ensure it is never forgotten….THE MEDIA DIDN’T GET IT WRONG – The pollsters did not work from the wrong data set; the media pollsters, consultants and professional political class did not work from the wrong assumptions, or use the incorrect baselines….. THEY LIED.

They lied and manipulated their data in a concerted effort to intentionally falsify reality. There should be no doubt, EVER, in the mind of any political observer as to what took place within the expressed and broadcasted polling which fueled over two years of broadcast news. The media intentionally lied.
…These individuals along with every single corporate national media polling outlet, which in turn contributed to -and skewed- the larger aggregate of the Real Clear Politics average of polls, were complicit in their intent to deceive the American electorate in an ideological scheme to manipulate the psyche of the American voter….They did not make mistakes; these organizations, as part of the larger corporate objectives from those who fund their endeavors, lied. Allowing them to say they made a mistake is only dooming ourselves to the continued cycle of battered electorate syndrome.

These entities are our abusers. They have been gaslighting the American electorate for years, and have been able to remain unchecked because no-one has ever called them to task before….The entire construct of their operational business model is corrupt from top to bottom. This moment in history should forever separate their influence from our national political discussion. PERIOD.”

  109. Are you quoting The Conservative Treehouse post because you believe it?

  110. Wikileaks didn’t disgrace Podesta. We knew he was a leftist political operator, and the emails primarily showed that he’s really good at what he does.

  111. This post? Absolutely yes. Do YOU not believe it about the polling, and that the media has been intentionally gaslighting and manipulating to dispirit and mislead the voting public about Republicans and Conservatives (all of whom they put in the same deplorables basket) and to prop up their sagging lady candidate even as far back as the primaries? If you don’t believe it, what is your alternative explanation for the utter “misfire” by the media and pollsters over the past 18 months or so? She had a 98% chance of winning the presidency as of a week ago?? The east coast “bubble” and so called innocent, friendly Washington party circuit bias only goes so far as an excuse on “journalism” and “polling” this poor, calculating and obvious.

This was his hot button. Were Andrew Breitbart himself still around he’d have been on the media like a swarm of stinging bees, I bet.

Excellent post, it’s always an excellent idea to quote the good Dr.

The blame for the specter of President-Elect Orange-Spray Tan falls on many people, not the least of whom are creeps like Kevin D. “Working class, to a gas chamber go!” Williamson.

Yep, Breitbart had no use for Trump, but he would have understood why he was politically successful.

  114. …Will the incoming DOJ still be able to prosecute Holder and if so will they do so?

    Milhouse (40ca7b) — 11/9/2016 @ 12:26 am

Howzabout this? Trump wants Mexico to pay for building the wall. Instead, they make an in kind contribution. We’ll build the wall, they pay for two two way tickets for two US Marshals from Phoenix into and out from Mexico City. One one way ticket for Eric Holder, the subsequent prosecution for gun running, and his room and board at the worst prison in Mexico.

    Deal?

  115. Which WJC was this? I’m pretty sure most voters assumed he did it and didn’t hold it against him.

What makes you think that? On what basis should they have assumed he did it?

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  116. Hassan wins; Ayotte concedes. Serves her right.
