It Only Counts When Women Power Through

Powering through the narrative:

Salon wants you to know that all women power through, whether athletes, actresses, or presidential candidates:

Clinton’s health has been a front and center topic of public speculation and armchair diagnoses for several months now, all couched in the vague concern about whether this woman — this woman with actual political experience and knowledge — is less qualified to run the country than her Twitter-troll reality-show-star opponent. It’s a popular old ploy: Ladies, aren’t you too weak to do this stuff? Why don’t you just sit down and have a lemonade and leave the heavy lifting of running the world to the menfolk, dear? To which I say: You have got to be kidding me.

Powering through is what women do. Last month, Chinese Olympic swimmer Fu Yuanhui managed to shock the world by admitting that she’d had her period and had been feeling “a bit weak and really tired” during a medley relay. It was as if the reality that most of the 12- to 55-year-old female population of the planet still manages to get stuff done every single month was a revelation.

Three years ago, Jennifer Lawrence was diagnosed with pneumonia at the height of awards season, and though she scaled back some on her public appearances, she still managed to show up looking stellar in time to pick up her “Silver Linings Playbook” Oscar. Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth has asthma — even if you might not have been able to tell from the lung power she exerts in her tireless stage and TV work.

Oh, and Olympian and skating star Kristi Yamaguchi has asthma, too. And earlier this year, Lena Dunham shared a candid Facebook post about her endometriosis and her need to take a brief beat to rest, while acknowledging, “So many women with this disease literally don’t have the option of time off and I won’t take it for granted.”

But I am reminded of the unattractive response by notable women to a man who has to “power through” life every single day:

“Could you have gone after what you see as his hypocrisy by pointing out what he did in that rape case, what he did in these other cases, without the stark image of the empty wheelchair, which seemed to be trying to point people towards his own supposed disability?”

After yesterday’s ugly 3 and 10Y auctions, of which the latter is still trading at a record “fails” charge in repo, there were few hopes for today’s 30Y auction, especially in light of the dramatic blow out in yields profiled moments ago. Well, it’s a good thing expectations were low because the just concluded reopening of $12 billion in 29Y 11 Month paper was the latest bond debacle, with the paper tailing the When Issued by 1 bps, printing at 2.475% compared to the 2.465% When Issued.

The internals were even worse: the Bid to Cover to 2.129, down from 2.24 in August, the lowest since February and far below the 6mma average of 2.35. Indirect interest dipped from 61.5% to 57.9%, below the 63.9% average, leaving 37.5% to Dealers, the highest since last August, while Directs ran away, as they did in yesterday’s auctions, taking down just 4.6% of the paper. This was the lowest Direct Bid since 2009.

A recent “undercover enrollment” investigation conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that pretty much anyone can sign up for Obamacare and receive taxpayer funded incentives without having to worry about pesky little details like proving citizenship, identity or income-based needs. In fact, the study found that every single one of its 15 fictitious Obamacare applications were actually approved for coverage despite intentional application omissions, fictitious identification and citizenship documentation, etc. Moreover, all of the applications were also approved for federal subsidies which totaled $60,000 per year.

The idea that someone, who is surrounded by assistants and handlers is powering through anything when compared to the guys I worked with, or even the mothers that these media sycophants are pumping, is a complete joke. She can ask someone to pick up the slack, she can cancel any appearance. She can walk away anytime. The people I worked with couldn’t. Not for a single day.

    I agree.
Those are men who soldier on.
Same with coal miners, fishermen, oil workers, deep sea welders and *gasp* private security like the guys who died in Benghazi.
Men have roamed the planet, dying so their families could live, for millennia.
There is a great line in the movie Kingdom of Heaven which says something like: “I once fought for two days with an arrow through my testicle”
That sorta sets a high bar, but it is one men have met over and over.
Women do the same. In childbirth, but also again in the daily living where tired knees, sore backs don’t stop a mom from providing if a man is out of the picture to help.. and a mom will fight with an arrow through her breast for her children… this deal with Hillary?
    NOT THE SAME THING

  45. Lots of us “power through” illnesses and aches and pains, because we have to. Thing is, we also don’t lie about our conditions.

If the lovely Mrs Clinton and her campaign had just told the truth — yeah, I know: call the drug test lady! — and announced on Friday, when she was (supposedly) diagnosed with pneumonia that she had it, she’d have gotten ahead of the story, and probably been allowed to sit, rather than stand, at the memorial service. Instead, they did what they always do: lie, conceal, cheat, do everything but the honest thing, and then when she collapsed, it came back to bite her on her Depends® covered ass.

Especially when, after watching a couple of videos of Hillary! fleeing the 9/11 memorial, unable to walk after being propped up against a post and then nearly falling, getting tossed in the van “like a side of beef” as one NYPD cop on the scene put it, what immediately comes to mind when I hear the words “powering through” is the image of her head powering through the pavement.

Which is what would have happened if her security detail and staffers hadn’t been there to catch her.

Years ago, I had what was eventually diagnosed as pneumonia. I still taught my classes, including a big Evidence class, where I can remember getting into a coughing jag that just wouldn’t end. The students all just sat there, impassive, waiting for me to come around and get back to what I was supposed to be doing. When I finally went to the doctor and got the diagnosis, I asked what to do, thinking I’d be told to stay home for some amount of time that I would need to deal with and prepared to picture myself at rest. But the doctor told me I should go to work. That is, if I thought I really should be staying home in this condition, I didn’t have a doctor recommending that. I’d be malingering.

The Clinton machine has done a lot to imply that, and a spokesman has actually said the on;y thing wrong with her is pneumonia.

It could even be true that while there is something else, it;s not been diagnsosed.

Se hasn’t been taking antibiotics since kast Friday – she was taking antibiotics for two weeks. The only thin the pnewmonia diagnosis means is that the locus of infection has moved to the lungs, or that it has spread there. Previously, maybe, it was just an upper respiratory tract infection.

I think she was diagnosed with an infection before, which they are not saying. They are saying allergies.

    http://bients.com/hillary-clinton-secret-surgery-steroid-treatments-brain-scan/

It detailed that she first came to see Dr Bardack on Friday, September 2.

At that time she was diagnosed with a ‘low-grade fever, congestion and fatigue’ and told to see her doctor when she returned from a campaign trip.

On Friday September 9, 2016, Dr. Lisa Bardack, after not seeing her for a few says, diagnosed her with pneumonia, after doing a “non-contrast chest CT scan, including a CTA calcium score.”

Some doctors are saying there is no such thing as a “non-contrast” CT scan. Dr Lisa Bardack is using invented terminology or additional adjectives.

It isn’t standing that caused her collapse. It’s walking.

I saw an artivle in the Personal Journal section of the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. About the health benefits of walking and talking (at the same time)

There was a study of 74 people at the Unoversity of Pittsburgh published earlier this year in the Journal of Physical Acttivity and Health.

Sitting at a laptop for 15 minutes (and typing?) burned 20 calories and standing birned 22.

Walking for 15 minutes burned an average of 56 calories

So if Hillary wasn’t getting enough oxygen into her bloodstream, she was fine standing there, but walking to the car caused her to collapse, especially teh difficult task of bending. Of course it looks like she lost control of her legs and her left arm. Ran out of ATP maybe.
