Disunited Democrats Dissent

Filed under: General — JVW @ 12:42 pm

[guest post by JVW]

A couple of items of interest as the Democrat National Convention gets underway in Philadelphia:

Outgoing DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was booed and heckled by her home state partisans as she addressed a morning meeting of the Florida delegation. Here is raw footage, untainted by Andrea Mitchell’s or Chuck Todd’s attempts to comment over it:

It almost makes you feel sorry for her. (Ha, ha — just kidding here. Clearly she is getting what she so richly deserves.)

And the booing wasn’t just limited to Ms. Wasserman Schultz. As Senator Bernard Sanders addressed his disappointed supporters, he received a rather pointed response when calling for the election of Hillary! Clinton and Tim Kaine. Check it out:

It takes him a full thirty-seven seconds to restore order, though I also get the feeling that he didn’t necessarily feel the need to move with too much alacrity in that regard. (Side note: wasn’t it kind of hilarious and pathetic to hear him address his young crowd as “brothers and sisters,” like the lamest elderly folksinger of all time?)

Yeah, this is shaping up to be a fun week.

  1. “Brothers and sisters.” Ought to be “grandsons and granddaughters.” And why does Sanders insist on enforcing such rigid binary gender-identification norms? Homophobe.

The world is on fire, yet they want to focus on gender-neutral public restrooms.

  4. We know they’re going to parade the parents of the thugs who’ve died during uncooperative altercations with the police.
But will they parade the parents of victims of the San Bernardino massacre? Or Orlando? How about wives or parents of murdered policemen in Baton Rouge or Dallas?

  6. After Sanders says “we have to elect Hillary Clinton” if you listen carefully amid the boos you can hear the beginnings of the “lock her up” chant that caused media progressives to take to their fainting couches last week. That is the point when Sanders finally decides he had better intervene and calm the crowd back down.

    JVW (f97acd)

  7. 6. At best, Jill Stein will be more like a 1980 John Anderson – harmful, yes but both HRC and Stein will not end up with enough combined votes to have topped Trump, anyway. This is past the point of even single-state electioneering e.g. Gary Johnson running hard in NM – their 5 EVs or Utah’s 6 EVs wont make a difference.

  8. DNC puts out press release saying they’re “extremely sorry” for screwing Bernie. Which changes nothing.

Another minion did her deed for the queen— who has yet to really say anything about this. Then is rewarded. Crooked Hillary won the nom… crookedly. The stink of Nixon is all over her. And Bernie kisses butt for a committee chair to be named.

  10. Tucker Carlson ripped Ted for withholding his endorsement of DJT. He is now saying it is important that Sanders withdraw his endorsement of HRC so as to be a principled politician.

It is amazing what happens to so many conservatives once they get a taste of the cash and prestige of TV commentary which can accrue to them. Power corrupts. DC corrupts absolutely.

  11. Wow, Ed.
    Chaos everywhere.

I always said that I wanted a four way race,
though since Cruz has said no to that and Bernie has already endorsed Clinton,
it is hard, but not impossible, to see that.

But Cruz would never win in the House.

  17. Hillary represents everything that is wrong with government today. Unfortunately Trump represents everything that could go wrong in a government ever. We must beat Hillary, but Trump is the most dangerous candidate in our lifetimes and must lose.

  20. You know what they might do next, bring in Obama to show his support. Save Clinton’s bacon.

Except Debbie has been an embarrassment to the party practically from the minute she became chairman.
Clinton requested Obama to fire Schultz a year ago, but Barry being a shrew judge of character (not difficult in a party of shrews) didn’t want the headache of Debbie going all offended woman of color on him (you know what I mean).
That’s as far as his support goes.

Clinton is a white woman. Heh. Jokes on you pajama boy.

  21. 4. Some people didn’t like the fact that the Republicans paraded a parent of someone killed in Benghazi.

In this case, we have two people who were the aggressors in an attack: Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown in Ferguson, one of whose killers was put on trial due to DOJ pressure – DOJ didn’t bring malicious prosecutions itself in the Obama Administration – and found not guilty and the other one who was investgated by DOJ and found not indictable. And the third one is someone who doied because of asthma attack and.or a heart attack where the worst you can say was that it wasn’t taken seriously because the people there thought he was engaged in a form of civil disobedience..

There are some real cases, but they;ve all been prosecuted, or there’s widespread agreementsomething did not go riht, like with Tamir Rice.

The Democrats or the activists have to find cases that people will push back on and say they are wrong. That will NEVER result in “justice.”

    Sammy Finkelman (372aad)

  22. Former New York City Michael Bloomberg endorsed Hillary Clinton and will give a speech to the democratic convention on Wednesday. He got the right to deliver his own reasons, and not Democratic arguments. He wants to be strong on police, for instance. His main issues are probably immigration and guns, and he would have been against Ted Cruz also. (and Bernard Sanders)

We had a heat wave in the Midwest last week, which I attributed to the hot air coming from Cleveland. After a Sunday respite, I expected it to resume today, but it’s not as bad. It was not the hot air so much in Cleveland — it was the hot flashes.

    nk (dbc370)

  29. #22 Sammy,

“Some” people didn’t like the fact that Sean Smith’s mother spoke at the GOP convention simply because doing so reminds people of the Barack/Hillary disaster.
Sean Smith was an information management specialist for the Foreign Service. He was murdered in service to our country.
There’s no comparison to parading relatives of Trayvon, or Michael Brown, or Eric Garner, or the punk in Baton Rouge. Those guys were all criminals, and Trayvon was definitely a juvenile delinquent. They weren’t serving our country the way Sean Smith was.

See, Sammy, the difference is the GOP is honoring the memory of someone who died for our country. Whereas the Democrats are going to honor the memory of some thugs who were uncooperative with the police.

    Trostkyite maybe, not Communist.

    26) On December 17, 2015, at approximately 2:47 p.m., the DNC suspended or terminated the Campaign’s Voter Data access. The suspension or termination of the Campaign’s access was undertaken without contractual cause, and in contravention of the Agreement’s termination protocols.

    27) The DNC did not send the Campaign any written notice of termination, much less afford the Campaign the contractually required ten-day period in which to cure any default.

    28) The Campaign’s inadvertent access of the Disclosed Information did not constitute a breach of any provision of the Agreement. Even assuming, arguendo, that the DNC could prove that Campaign staff intentionally accessed any Disclosed Information, such access would not amount to a breach of the Agreement, or give the DNC cause to suspend or terminate the Agreement.

Free for those (students coming from families) making less than $125,000 a year.

(Like Democrats – and really all of the people in government – usually do when designing programs, they pretend income is stable. Income really means income for the the calendar year ending about 21 months before the school year in question begins.)

He also came out against TPP and said it houldnt go to Congress in the lame duck session. What president wants it?

Climate change (drink) rejecting science (drink)

What’s not pointed out here is that the science is being rigged. There’s pressure to cut off all support from any scientist poroposing any kind of study that would argue against anything.

And all the supposed alarming things are on;y mentioned as possibilities, but it is not possible to argue that anything that could realistically happen could make a difference. Very few scientists will make any kind of claim that a little change in emissions will prevent all that, and that undermines the whole case for doing anything.

    And also:

Please explain to me why the same thing causes both droughts and floods, and if you can, say by saying rainfall patterns change because of CO2 or whatever, how you know exactly what will happen if X or Y happens…

And if you do know, whether the new rainfall mix will be better or worse than the old one.

The remedy for climate change, according to their own projections, is not of the scale to make a difference, and that there are much better and more reliable forms of geo-engineering if that’s what you want to do, some precluded by treaty but you can make new treaties, and that adaptation makes more sense and that none of this is cost effective by any standard.

The mesage about crime was: people should be going to school, and not to jail; the message about terrorism was: we should not scapegoat people (or something like that); and the message about the economy was: it was nearly ruined by Wall Street speculation, and has been saved by Obama, but it’s intolerable now because too few people have too much money, and some people are poor and can work 40 hours a week and not support themselves. And Republicans don’t care. Just raise the minimum wage, and everything will be fine; lower it like Donald Trump wants, and more people will be poor. Oh, and do maybe two or three other things like stopping trade, and infrastructure spending and changing some corporate tax laws.

Um, that’s exactly what he is doing. Restoration of political rights is a limited-purpose pardon. It doesn’t erase their other disabilities. And there’s no question that he is entitled to do so. He thought that he could do it in one order that applied to a whole category of 200,000 people, and the court said no, a restoration order must name the individuals to whom it applies. (Note that he does not have to issue 200,000 individual orders. All the court said was that they have to be named. He could list all 200,000 names in one document and restore all of their rights in one go.)

No, he is not hair-splitting, the court is. He’s just complying with the court.

Also note that there’s no question that the president can issue blanket pardons. That’s solidly established. The court acknowledged that, but said the VA constitution is more restrictive. And it explained why, based on the 10-year gap between the two constitutions, and the different political climate at the time each was adopted.

She could say “Black lives Matter” and probably has, without taking an actual position on the question of whether the Michael Brown story is a hoax. What she doesn’t want is to be on record endorsing it. And neither does Obama. Whose Justice Department found no credibility to the story.

    https://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/opa/press-releases/attachments/2015/03/04/doj_report_on_shooting_of_michael_brown_1.pdf

Although no eyewitnesses directly corroborate Wilson’s account of Brown’s attempt to gain control of the gun, there is no credible evidence to disprove Wilson’s account of what occurred inside the SUV. Some witnesses claim that Brown’s arms were never inside the SUV. However, as discussed later in this report, those witness accounts could not be relied upon in a prosecution because credible witness accounts and physical and forensic evidence, i.e. Brown’s DNA inside the SUV and on Wilson’s shirt collar and the bullet trajectory and close-range gunshot wound to Brown’s hand, establish that Brown’s arms and/or torso were inside the SUV… Those witness accounts stating that Brown never moved back toward Wilson could not be relied upon in a prosecution because their accounts cannot be reconciled with the DNA bloodstain evidence and other credible witness accounts…

…Although there are several individuals who have stated that Brown held his hands up in an unambiguous sign of surrender prior to Wilson shooting him dead, their accounts do not support a prosecution of Wilson. As detailed throughout this report, some of those accounts are inaccurate because they are inconsistent with the physical and forensic evidence; some of those accounts are materially inconsistent with that witness’s own prior statements with no explanation, credible for otherwise, as to why those accounts changed over time. Certain other witnesses who originally stated Brown had his hands up in surrender recanted their original accounts, admitting that they did not witness the shooting or parts of it, despite what they initially reported either to federal or local law enforcement or to the media. Prosecutors did not rely on those accounts when making a prosecutive decision.

That doesn’t qute describe any one of them. One did not deal with any policeman, one was not a thug, and another was far more than “un-cooperative.” There’s a fourth too, whose mother ois going to speak.

But the important point is how they died.

Democrats often bring family members – of diseases, or gun crime, which they allege, sometimes without a shred of truth, that had something been law this would not have happened. Sometimes the case histories just don’t fit with the oroposed legislation.

  195. Sammy,

In my world, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Trayvon Martin were thugs.
And the guy shot by the Baton Rouge police had been arrested 40 times.

We need to stop canonizing these people.

The victims of San Bernardino and Orlando are much more deserving of podium time at the convention than Garner, Brown, or Martin.
    Seriously.

They had seven deaths, (or was it nine?) not one of which was probably anything like the other. I have 3 cases besides that of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Trayvon Martin. Eric Garner was not a thug, just someone engaged in illegal activities. The guy in Baton Rought wasn’t one of them.

There was a woman who committed suicide – some like to claim it wasn’t suicide – after being unfairly arrested after a traffiuc stop in Texas.

There was a man shot and killed by another motorist — NOT A POLICEMAN – after refusing to turn off his radio while they both waiting for gas at a gas station. The shooter claimed he saw a gun. There was no gun, and he was CONVICTED. In the first trial, on 3 counts of attempted second-degree murder and 1 count of firing into a vehicle, in other words, endangering the lives of the 3 other men in the car, while the jury was hung on the murder charge. He was retried for the murder, and found guilty, and sentenced to a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole on October 17, 2014. What more would anyone expect? It’s not like they’re for the death penalty.

There was a 15-year old girl (who had just before been in the white House) who was killed by some gang members in Chicago – this also somehow maybe the fault of the Republicans, or white racism.

There was a man shot by a policeman 14 times, after he was disturbed the second time for sleeping in a park and he resisted a pat down. The man managed to get ahold of the policeman’s baton and swung at and hit the policeman. The policeman was fired, but not prosecuted, not by the district attorney ad not after a federal investigation.

There was an old case, from New Year’s Day, 2009, of a man killed by a Bay Area Rapid Transit officer, after being detained with several other people for having a fight, while an angry crowd surrounded the police. That policeman had actually been sicced on the man he killed by another policeman. The policeman was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter but not guilty of second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter, and released under parole after serving 11 months, because of double credit for time served before sentencing, and because the judge overturned the gun enhancement. There was a lot of lying on all aides. The policeman claimed he had been intending to taze him, but that looks like a lie, as was his initial claim it was an accident.

The mother of Eric Garner appeared only in a pre-recorded video. I think they were afraid she might venture off script. She’s been complaining why the Department of Justice investigation if taking so long and wants some indictments, and Obama isn’t providing that. He deserves some credit for that, and some discredit for letting this go on. A daughter was for Sanders

The mother of Tamir Rice, the oversize 12-year old killed in Cleveland after waving around a fake gun that looked real, wasn’t there, because she didn’t want to endorse anyone for president – she said none of them addressed her conncerns.

This would be the video of the whole thing: http://www.cbsnews.com/live/video/mothers-of-the-movement-dnc-video/

  198. These women, or some of these women, had been campaigning with Hillary Clinton, maybe with a focus on gun control. There may be some tape of Hillary Clinton commisserating with them or something., even maybe saying a prayer.
