Happy Independence Day

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 2:55 pm

I refuse to write about another stupid Trump controversy on this day. If I read another piece that begins “Corey Lewandowski says” I think ISIS may end up taking responsibility for my actions. That’s a joke. Relax.

Instead, let’s spend the day thinking about the things that bind us together: a love of freedom, a respect for natural rights, and a fiercely independent character. These are the things America is about.

Also, making fun of clueless people who have no idea about any of those things:

Trump voters don’t know when the Declaration of Independence was signed.
On the other hand, Hillary’s voters can tell you all about The Federalist Papers. (LOL)
In fact, they so ardently believe in the Federalist Papers, that they are inspired to vote for more expansive government.

Colonel, I really get ruffled when somebody says that. I didn’t sit around anywhere and I didn’t “let” anything happen. I tried my best at the ballot box and in my community to help keep our country on the straight and narrow. I am a responsible citizen who pays his taxes, obeys the law and looks out for my fellow citizens. I would bet you and the rest of the folks at this blog have done the same.

What happened occurred without out permission through stealth and incrementalism. At first it was about keeping government out of the bedroom. Now we’re paying for other people’s abortions and they use them for birth control killing a million Americans a year. First they just wanted gays to be treated like everyone else. Now they want chicks with dicks in bathrooms with little girls. First there was to be an “amnesty” after which illegals were not going to be allowed in. Now we have 40 million more than we did then.

The only way we can stop any of it is by not letting Hillary! win!

As parents, we do the best we can to try to share knowledge we have about our country, to help instill values and respect for our national heritage and traditions. We can’t depend on our public education system (there are exceptions) to assist with that. Things have undergone a drastic change since I was in school and not for the better.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_White_Fleet

Since Japan had arisen as a major sea power with the 1905 annihilation of the Russian fleet at Tsushima, the deployment of the Great White Fleet was therefore intended, at least in part, to send a message to Tokyo that the American fleet could be deployed anywhere, even from its Atlantic ports, and would be able to defend American interests in the Philippines and the Pacific.[7][8]

That gesture capitalized on a war scare that had resulted from anti-Japanese riots in San Francisco. Roosevelt saw the deployment of the fleet as one that would take the American public’s mind off an economic depression that had begun in 1907, encourage patriotism, and give the impression that he would teach Japan “a lesson in polite behavior”, as historian Robert A. Hart phrased it.[9] Roosevelt did so on the assurance from financial experts that Japan had been drained from the Russo-Japanese War and would not be ready for another conflict for at least a decade.[9] After the fleet had crossed the Pacific, Japanese statesmen realized that the balance of power in the East had changed since the Root–Takahira Agreement that defined relevant spheres of interest of the United States and Japan.[7]

    kishnevi (480bf9)

  29. but the fleet had been built long before the 1907 crash, which was remedied by jp morgan, in addition it wasn’t till the control group seized power in japan, a quarter century later, that these preoccupations set in,

I have to say the star did not look like a sheriff’s badge to me, especially since it was tilted to one side. And unless showing Hillary in handcuffs, it makes no sense to me.

It doesn’t look like a sheriff’s badge, but it doesn’t look very different from an asterisk. It can be taken for something artistic, and it doesn’t have any internal lines, that would make someone recognize it as a Star of David.

If it had been a 5-pointed star nobody would have said anything, and, unless you are looking for it, you won’t notice the difference between a 5-pointed star and a 6-pointed star.

The question is, how does what looks like deliberately ambiguous stuff like this repeatedly wind up in Trump’s twitter feed?

Maybe they meant to suggest Hillary is an all-star in the Corruption League.

Not even that. It’s just making the words stand out. A star is a little like an exclamation point. As I said, it evoke an asterisk, which is often acomment on the main text. A circle doesn’t look anywhere near as good.

So I put it down to Trumpian incompetence.

Of the last, I would frame the question as “Harvard, Yale or other University” and ask the elites of the Never Trump society to identify which “founding father” or other “notable historical figure” had attended which. Then I would list (among others notables NOT disclosed in the broadcast) notables like Washington, Lincoln, Truman who had not attended any formal institution.
