  1. USA Today’s saving grace is that it is rather unpretentious when compared to its awful competitors, but we have had occasion to criticize their shoddy coverage in the past.

  2. Here is a link to the paper’s original story with a corrected graphic. The question of whether Colorado (and Washington state for that matter) has benefitted from legalizing marijuana is an interesting one, and I may try to address it in a post sometime down the road.

  3. I didn’t even catch the error. I was too busy trying to figure out what marjijuana was.

  4. Dear god.

    Rodney King's Spirit (e2dd8e)

  5. Holy moly, kishnevi! I hadn’t even noticed that odd spelling!

  6. Cheyenne has a population of about 60,000.
According to USA Today, fifty thousand of them must be involved in pot production!

  7. They should be putting the effort into exporting illegal aliens, as the federales are making big money.

    mg (31009b)

  8. and the rest of Cheyenne’s population is involved in the production of “marjijuana.” (LOL)

  9. It’s either a. a case of intoxicating blasts of stupefaction or b. stupefying blasts of intoxication.

  10. It seems the editors may have become too deeply involved in the story on a personal basis.

  11. Cheyenne Gold sounds more exotic than Mile High High.

    John Hitchcock (c6f523)

  12. seems like they have developed quite an inventory,

    narciso (732bc0)

  13. At first I was looking at it and was like “Seriously? None of that marijuana went to Nevada, New Mexico, and New Jersey?”

    TheNaBr (1cb15d)

  14. And I’m sure USA Today editors think Mile High Stadium is on top of a mountain, instead of at the base of them.

    John Hitchcock (c6f523)

  15. Obviously this was the map the Trumpkin voters who were trying to find their ways to the Colorado caucus elections used.

  16. failmerica in general is noticeably less competent than it used to be

you see it in how they screw up wars big time (so embarrassing) and slaughter veterans waiting for treatment and lol the secret service plus also you have the EPA polluting all the waters for the failmerican indians and then next thing you know the fat-ass postal worker trash lose 2 billion dollars in three months

  17. New Mexico I understand prefers tequila. New Hampshire does the smack, with the bleed off impacting Vermont. Louisiana has to keep their wits otherwise the gators will getcha.
Humboldt county takes care of Washington and Oregon.

But Nevada? I don’t get that. They have border security locked up?

Look at Los Angeles. That arrow is pointed to Tommy Chong’s house.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  18. But Nevada? I don’t get that. They have border security locked up?

The local smugglers have a lot of desert in which to bury interlopers?

    nk (dbc370)

  19. 1. New Mexico? That’s Heisenberg Country.

    2. …You see it in the headlines
    You hear it ev’ry day
They say they’re gonna stop it
    But it doesn’t go away

    They move it through Miami,
    Sell it in L.A.
They hide it up in Telluride
    I mean it’s here to stay…

  20. If they can’t tell Colorado from Wyoming, they must be shipping a lot of pot….

    WarEagle82 (5bf75f)

  21. 1. did any of you miss Sinead O’Connor while she was out on her bike ride?

    2. rest easy. They found her. Or maybe the proper thing to say is she rode her Raleigh motorized bicycle back home.

No, it’s the map the Cruz campaign mailed out to the supporters of Ben Carson and Donald Trump.

    ropelight (0760d5)

  24. Haha. Sounds about right, ropelight. Only Trumpers would be stupid enough to go to Wyoming thinking it was Colorado. Amirite?

    Patterico (86c8ed)

  25. The question of “which one is North Dakota and which one is South Dakota” must be challenging, too.

  26. I take I-80 over Donner Pass, spend a couple of nights in Reno then West along the Humbolt River and I-80 with a quick detour to the Ruby Mountains and the incomparable Lemoille, and like as not another detour up to Montello and back to West Wendover for another 2 day layover. I like casinos.

Then across the Great Salt Desert to Salt Lake City and Northeast along the old Morman Trail up to Evanston, Wyoming, past Fort Bridger and Little America then on to Rock Springs, Rawlins, and Cheyenne before turning South on I-25 to Denver where I pick I-70 East.

Given agreeable weather, it’s one of the most enjoyable stretches till I get into Kentucky and on to home turf in the Appalachians. I like to come through the Cumberland Gap on the Wilderness Road and stop for a few days in Norton and Big Stone Gap. Especially in the Fall, the colors are indescribable.

PS: From Evanston to Rawlins can be heavy going in Winter conditions. Better to take a more southerly route especially if your vehicle has a large wind profile.

  27. Kind of on-topic. Headlines that make you say “wut?”, May 17 edition: http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/280117-hillarys-unlikely-ally-in-2016-the-media

May the best liar make the other liar lose! All samee-samee.

    nk (dbc370)

  28. Colorado is so high it floated upwards!

    Patricia (5fc097)

  29. Al the more reason to end a grow monopoly, and for states to legalize it. Colorado shouldn’t be in isolation, as long as it is, and as long as MJ is in demand, it will continue to export to the black market.

    SarahW (67599f)

  30. Sarah W,

If all 50 states would just legalize the sale of cocaine, the Mexican drug cartels wouldn’t have to slaughter everyone who tries to enforce the current laws. And if we would just embrace Sharia Law, then the jihadists wouldn’t feel compelled to label us as infidels.

    Cruz Supporter (102c9a)

  31. yes yes it’s fundamentally a state’s rights issue

every state has to decide for themselves if they want legal marijuana or black market marijuana

    happyfeet (831175)

  32. Mr happyfeet, since you live in Chicago, you should invite Sinead O’Connor out for a bike ride sometime. She sounds like she could use an entertaining biking companion. And you could dissuade her from getting anymore of those gross neck tattoos.

    Cruz Supporter (102c9a)

  33. The federal government can shut down the Colorado marijuana industry just like that. Seize pot stores’ bank accounts. Seize all the banks’ assets for having pot store accounts too. And use the money to fund napalming of the marijuana field. But it’s just like the illegals pouring over the border. Obama won’t do it. And he’s right not to do it because you laissez faire f***ers wouldn’t mind a toke yourselves. Nicotine, gluten, and sugar are your dangerous chemicals. So shut up.

    nk (dbc370)

  34. i know poor lady she’s a mess

i’m a huge fan still though

    happyfeet (831175)

  35. Sinead O’Connor does not live in Chicago; she lives in Wilmette. No relationship. And one would think that she could have found a way to get rid of her lice without shaving her head in all these years and with all her money.

    nk (dbc370)

  36. #37 nk,

Oh, Jesus, to people who ride bikes, the distance from Wilmette to “proper” Chicago is nothing.

I drive a Tacoma. And maybe it’s just weird of me, but it seems to get twitchy when the wind starts gusting. The Tacoma started out as a 4×4 and it seems the design never quite made the transition. Without the 500 or so pounds of metal that should be holding the front end down it’s just not as stable as it should be.

  39. A Prerunner.

  40. Colorado seems to have wandered northwards while under the influence. Now, the question is: What did it do with Wyoming?
