  2. My goal is to show at least half the professionalism Donald Trump would show.

How do you like it, Trump supporters? Would I do well in a general election with this attitude?

    Patterico (86c8ed)

  3. This thread deserves another comment just to remind Trump supporters how they lost on account of how their guy is a giant loser

  4. My take; the real lesson tonight was ground game. Apparently, Trump’s use-the-locals cheap ground game didn’t work well for him. Cruz’s ground game (which was massive and built with care over months) did. This IMHO is absolutely critical, because a lousy ground game is a huge part of Romney’s loss in 2012.

I also predict that Trump will attend the next debate.

  5. Four bankruptcies, two divorces, and bad hair—sounds like a loser to me. I mean, if you can’t even defeat a Canadian candidate in Iowa, then how can we expect you to defeat an American candidate in real states where they have indoor plumbing and electricity?

  6. You know how the Muslims flooding into Europe are almost all males? Figured out why.
Any woman immigrating is liable to be raped.

Fearing rape, female migrants are taking birth control before crossing the border.

Oh my bad. That was the Mexican migrant women link.

Guess that makes me racist to point it out.

  7. I’m so ecstatic over this Cruz victory, I totally forgot to tell you all who died today!

  8. Said a while ago, if Cruz wins no skin off my nose.
    But Rubio.

Can you imagine a President Rubio vigorously enforcing border security?

    Not really.

Can you imagine a President Rubio offering millions of border jumpers amnesty> thus incentivising the next wave?

    Hell yeah.

  9. so huckabee is out that is good for america

at least we got rid of one butt snuffler tonight

    national soros radio says this

A chastened Trump conceded to Cruz but vowed to wage a vigorous campaign in the other early states of New Hampshire, South Carolina and beyond.

its this true was Mr. The Donald chastened?

oh my goodness where dem pups

  10. “For months they said we had no chance,” Rubio said, “because my hair wasn’t gray enough, and my boots were too high. But tonight, tonight here in Iowa, the people of this great state have sent a very clear message.”

why does that sounds like he’s about to burst into a musical number

  20. My Friend,

Can you temporarily rename this blog “Patterico’s Pontifications about Cruz” or “Patterico’s Pontifications against Trump”?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Cruz guy and (as a small government conservative) most definitely NOT a Trump guy, so I’m not complaining. You are my first stop for solid analysis (“Always Trust Content from Patterico” after all!).

Thanks for the solid work. Keep it up.

  23. Here is Trump’s consession.

What happened to his neck? He’s injured. Can’t move his head around.

    When did that happen?

Is that why he skipped the Fox Iowa debate?

  24. seriously, the daily snoose, would use the constitution for kindling, to warm their reptilian hearts,

  25. I’ll just say that I think for a conservative to win the WH,
They will want to have the votes of the fed up who back Trump,
So I really don’t get the enthusiastic denunciation of all things Trump.

    It seems short sighted,
    And a bit unbecoming.

MD in Philly (not in Philly) (deca84)

  26. it misses the point, MD, that it isn’t the man but the issues he has managed to enervate,

    narciso (732bc0)

  27. MD is right.

Still, free speech and satire are nice things. Trump’s fans have called out a lot of people for being wimpy in the face of Trump’s ridiculous behavior, but the truth is that they don’t like this behavior directed at them. One reason to be decent to others is so they will be decent to you, and Trump’s ‘breaking the rules’ on that basis is bad for everybody, including him.

Trump is not just a single man. He’s a statement of contempt for the establishment that has done so many foolish things. Once you see that, you realize that some of the typical political bickering comes across as burning a bridge. Cruz’s anti establishment behavior in the senate was either a brilliant strategy, a sign that he’s doing this for a higher reason, or both. Either way, there is a great overlap between Cruz and Trump, the movements. A whole lot of Cruz’s fans, myself included, are sympathetic to the people who support Trump.

  30. Gotta tell Aunt Megyn
    About Uncle Don
    She ask him tough questions
And he say that ain’t no fun
    Ooh, baby.
    Yeah, yeah, baby.
    Having me some fun tonight.

    They sent an invitation
    To Bald-headed Donnie
    He saw Aunt Megyn coming
And he hid under his money.
    Ooh, baby.
    Yeah, yeah, baby.
    Having me some fun tonight.

MD is right. Too much negativity can demoralize even the ones dishing it out. Alinsky advises to make your tactics enjoyable for your people.

  31. what Trump represents. it’s one thing to say Trump is not a good flagbearer for a message to the GOP to knock it off on amnesty and backstabbing and bloated government, and it’s quite another (and wrong) to say that isn’t the message being sent. Not that I think Patterico said that. But a lot of folks are immune to satire and keen to see who is on their side. They say Trump’s the first guy who listened to them. That may not be true, but they believe it, and they see an awful lot of folks confirm it.

    Dustin (2a8be7)

  32. I’m a little confuzzled, cousin megyn was sure she had put the axe in cruz, over amnesty,

    narciso (732bc0)

  33. True, it is the issues,
but some don’t see it that clearly,
talked with a 40-ish woman tonight who was leaning Cruz but said she also liked Trump
she knew little of Trump’s history,
only that he had been speaking up about the right things now

Cruz is better than Trump because of a more complete record was very easy to point out,
I am sure she would not have been eager to listen had I started off ridiculing her for even considering Trump.

MD in Philly (at the moment not in Philly) (deca84)

  34. I take that back, it isn’t just the issues, Trump was the first one who came out vocal about the border and national security and didn’t apologize for it
but he doesn’t know when forceful ends and coarse begins

MD in Philly (at the moment not in Philly) (deca84)

  35. if one is of a mindset, one can paint any candidate, with the sleaziest brush, the truth is often in the way, your hometown paper won’t defend you, they will even buy off those courting your family, this is a lesson from seven years ago, which hasn’t yet been learned,
