On Cruz, Sanders, and Double Standards

Have you noticed a weird intellectual duality among progressives this year with respect to the way they view the 2016 election? It goes something like this:

Ted Cruz can’t be elected President; he has hardly any allies in among Republican Party leadership.
Ted Cruz can’t be elected President; he’s never really been a key power broker in the Senate, just a guy that votes as a ideological purist.
Ted Cruz can’t be elected President; we always end up selecting a moderate closer to the center.
Ted Cruz can’t be elected President; he comes from just about the only possible state where a guy like him could be elected.

I think Bernie Sanders has an excellent chance of being elected President this year.

Seriously, try this out on your progressive friends and see if it doesn’t pretty much proceed along these lines.

  1. Naturally, you will never get Hillary! fans to play along with this, because their argument is that Cruz and Sanders are two peas in the same pod.

  2. if they didn’t have double standards they would have none at all, besides how many Republicans would say have honeymooned in Argentina, during the junta,

  3. Isn’t it funny to see so many politicians repeatedly tell us how unlikable and “nasty” Ted Cruz is, and yet they can’t stop talking about him?? Further, if they really believed he was as loathsome as and unpopular as they keep trying to convince us, do you think he’d be a leading contender for the nomination??

Q: Just how stupid do they think we are?

    A: Bernie Sanders

  5. Had a conversation with a liberal friend, we were talking trump and both agreed it would be difficult to vote for him, bill’s wife for you? I asked. Hell no I’m voting for bernie because he seems like a nice guy… My eyes had to have looked blank. I said I could not vote for someone that honeymooned in Russia. His eyes went blank.

  6. The answer is simple. To a leftist, only conservatives can be extremists.

  7. I’ve found Ted Cruz to be a breath of fresh air and likable. His life story and family history are interesting. And he is pretty calm and able to talk reasonably in the face of adversity. Doesn’t get all hysteric about problems. I see him as the Trump VP or a Supreme Court Justice.

  8. The reason that progressives feel this way is that they’re actually planning to show up on Election Day, regardless of who their nominee is.
Whereas, conservatives will stay home unless our nominee is named Barry Goldwater III.

  12. Trump is going to win, last I heard he is up 11 points over Cruz…
…you want to know why Cruz can’t win?

largely because he balked at not supporting limiting or banning refugee’s/illegals/muslims on the immigration issue
and that is one of the defining issue’s that has costed him a huge amount of support
it’s also why Trump is likely going to be president at this point…
…but here is another reason: Ted Cruz took donations from goldman sachs and then didn’t disclose that until it was revealed later on so you already know he’s a bought and paid for politician …unlike Trump.

Hillary Clinton (should she be the dem nominee) won’t be able to survive the onslaught Trump has in store for her… If she survives the email scandal …which btw, they just found out Hillary had SAP files on her server ….the highest classisfied and most sensitive information… that if fell into the wrong hands could get many people killed. …that alone should be enough to convince the majority of voters to turn against her and put Trump in office.

and that isn’t the only thing he can use against her…

…and bernie… hahahahahaha… A socialist? *LOL* if the Democrat Party is stupid enough
to run a socialist on their ticket… either the dems are just outright desperate, have resigned themselves to defeat or are just plain retarded.

….the sickle and hammer will make so goods ads… hahaha…
    ….that’s all that’s needed to defeat bernie…

and from what I see… It looks like the DNC establishment don’t support Bernie.
they want Hillary because they know they can control her… but neither have a good chance against trump. …their one good canidate (that might get voters to vote for her) hillary is too damaged by the email scandal and benghazi…

btw… also don’t forgot most people still hold quite a grudge against the Democrats
    …..for the clusterfuck 0bamacare has become….
so don’t think there will be too many lib voters
even unions got their just desserts from the cadiallac tax…
    ….so don’t be surprised if 2016 puts a republican in power…

….though I will say this… the only way hillary or bernie wins
is if they are up against Ted Cruz. …why? well. ted cruz reminds me of Romney.

and romney while the most conservative canidate… essentially gave 0bama a free pass on everything Ted Cruz already seems to side with political correctiveness….
so if he goes that rout, that would definitely cost him the election against either of those two.

unlike Trump who will crush them, and deflect whatever attacks he faces from either of those two.
and make bernie look like a senile old crazy tard… or hillary more of a criminal than she already looks like.

gotta say though… *l* it would be a really great sight to see hillary lose to trump
and have an epic meltdown that very night… then, get indicted and put in jail for the rest of her life.

  13. “Progressive” sounds somehow so innocuous at worse, romantic at best. Liberals don’t deserve what, in effect, is a euphemism for their immaturity, hypocrisy and lack of basic logic.

I would love to unfortunately since any “progressives” I knew were unable to hold a conversation without calling me names after three sentences I no longer have any. I don’t miss them.

  15. I said I could not vote for someone that honeymooned in Russia.

He didn’t honeymoon in Russia, mg. He honeymooned in the communist state of the Soviet Union. Big difference.

See, I have the opposite notion. I detest that the left has co-opted the term “liberal” which should connote those who value liberty. Progressives disdain liberty, preferring the warm comfort of the gargantuan cradle-to-grave welfare state over the ability to live a life free from the intrusion of a largely self-appointed elite.

And the term “progressive” was first co-opted on the left by American communists, who used the term as a euphemism for someone who shared in their affection for Marxism/Stalinism. I’m happy to let them have the term, since I never cared for Teddy Roosevelt anyway.

  19. And just so you all know the BS that is the democrat party, Hillary! is a socialist and Sanders is a communist. He always has been.

  20. JVW #16 – the left only gets to co-opt “liberal” as long as *we* allow them to do so … yes, it’s work and effort, and yet is well-worth the effort to discuss with anyone who will listen that ‘liberal’ is almost 180 degrees from Democrat/Progressive … and the virtues of freedom and tolerance that Democrats/Progressives *claim* to support are more evident by their lack in Democrat/Progressive practices …
