With A Little Help From Our “Friends”
[guest post by Dana]
Who knew it was the U.S. that called Iran to help the stranded U.S. sailors earlier this week, thus providing our enemy with a brilliant opportunity for the humiliating propaganda photo shoot?
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas was interviewed by Dana Loesch:
I understand that (Secretary of State) John Kerry has indicated, look, when he got word, he and Ash Carter called the Iranians to help take care of our Navy guys, because they had some mechanical problems.
When our Navy ships have problems, we don’t call Iran. We call the rest of the Navy. We can call the Air Force, the Army, the Marines, Coast Guard. We don’t call Iran.
(*Note: Further in the video, Gohmert’s insinuation that John Kerry’s daughter had the son of an Iranian diplomat as a guest at her wedding has been proven to be untrue.)

Good morning.

MD in Philly (not in Philly) (deca84) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:17 amAlthough at this point with it getting stranger and stranger,
I doubt that we will ever know what happened unless someone turns.
It seems as likely a possibility as anything else out there, MD. And given the push to become I ran’s B capital F capital F, this would not be surprising at all. Plus, remember we are paying them $150 billion on Monday.
Dana (12708d) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:22 amIn other words, I don’t have trouble believing it.
Dana (12708d) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:23 amOne more observation: this would be consistent with our newfound relationship with Iran. We are in the position of need and they are in the position of humiliating us. We give them power and authority over us because that’s what “dialogue “looks like to this administration.
Dana (12708d) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:29 amDana, you’re confusing “dialogue” with fellatio.
Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie™ (f4eb27) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:37 amGreetings:
Actually, I heard that the Navy did call the Army but the latter’s First Female Combat Brigade was already engaged at Fashion Week in Paris.

Heh. So much for the dictating function on an iPhone, but you get the point.
Dana (12708d) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:41 amMaybe the Iranians could have behaved with a little more class after all that Obama and Kerry have done for them. Nonetheless, I’m still glad that other American soldiers and sailors were not put in harm’s way to get these sailors back. Like what happened with Bowie Bergdahl. And a couple of propaganda photo-ops are a much cheaper ransom than five Taliban commanders (plus who knows how much cash).
nk (dbc370) — 1/15/2016 @ 7:53 amPlus, remember we are paying them $150 billion on Monday.
? I thought it was Iran’s money, stolen by the Shah, and squirreled away in American and European banks.
nk (dbc370) — 1/15/2016 @ 8:01 amNk, yes, of course.
Dana (12708d) — 1/15/2016 @ 8:04 amIf the truth is stranger than fiction….
MD in Philly (not in Philly at the moment) (deca84) — 1/15/2016 @ 8:07 amIf we had a media that were honest reporters of news and major events – not just this sordid affair, but dozens of others over these last 7 years – there might be calls for impeachment. But that’s a BIG IF.

not only that, but now they’re floating a story about how this mess happened to begin with.
so which is it? did they run aground, have mechanical problems or just screw up their navigation ?
i call BS on it all… especially since to make the journey, all they had to do was follow the coast line, which isn’t hard at all.

happyfeet (a037ad) — 1/15/2016 @ 10:09 amThe distance to the horizon at sea for a person standing up in a small boat is roughly 3 miles. For a shoreline to be visible outside the 12-mile limit it would have to rise about 100 feet above sea level. So, if you’re following the shoreline, the odds are good that you’re in that nation’s territorial waters. If international treaties have drawn the lines closer, for narrow seas separating two countries, you need to know where you are — navigate — to make sure you’re on the correct side.
nk (dbc370) — 1/15/2016 @ 10:11 amHappy for you, Aaron.
nk (dbc370) — 1/15/2016 @ 10:15 amCongratulations, Mr. Walker
mg (31009b) — 1/15/2016 @ 10:23 amnk, the shoreline you’re looking for is likely to have trees or structures that are considerably higher than the 8′ height of the observer on the boat. Even without structures, a shoreline would need to rise to levels that are at least 10′ high to avoid flooding and erosion in storms. Bottom line is that you need to more than double the distance you mentioned. The boats also had radar, so they could detect the shore and elevated structures inland for a considerable distance in fog or darkness.
Sailors I knew on Cape Cod delighted in telling stories of meeting the younger Kennedy brothers on their sailing adventures. They’d take off with nothing but a folding gas station map, and pretty soon they’d be lost, especially if there was fog. If you happened to sail by they’d hail you and ask for directions.

She didn’t say he wasn’t at the wedding, let alone that he’s not a close friend of her husband. Nor does Snopes cite any source for its claim that the husband has never been to Iran.

On top of which innocent passage through Saudi waters would have been a h3ll of a lot smarter and safer than straying into Iranian-claimed waters.
Unless the Navy is operating under Obama’s assumption that our enemies in Iran are really
our friends, and our allies the Saudis and the Gulf states (to include Bahrain, which hosts Fifth Fleet) are actually our enemies.
I like Louie Gohmert but I tend not to believe this story. I am not, by the way, saying that his DoS and/or DoD sources didn’t tell him exactly what he’s relaying to Dana Loesch. I know with complete certainty that I’m being lied to about this incident, so why wouldn’t these same people lie to Louie Gohmert as well?

happyfeet (831175) — 1/15/2016 @ 4:18 pmDNF, that’s a very interesting link (#29,) although it took quite a while to open the page. Pickering is a poster-boy for this administration, and for the administration that will follow it, if Hillary! is elected.
Remarkably, a substantial majority of Americans with a Jewish heritage will support Hillary! despite this genocidal endpoint for Israel in Pickering’s and Hillary!’s end game. This monolithic support for those who would exterminate every (practicing) Jew illustrates the fallacy of thinking that just because someone is a terrific neurosurgeon, or a stellar particle physicist, that they have a well-grounded grasp on reality. The very thing that is required for excellence, ten thousand hours, or five years of 40-hour weeks, dedicated to deliberate practice, ensures that those who achieve this excellence are tangential participants in the realities of our society.
And I’m indulging in my own ethnic bias when I pretend that the Jewish demographic group can be characterized as brain surgeons and scientists. I expect that they have been as corroded by our soft socialism as everybody else, so it is likely that a growing percentage are having children out of wedlock, sponging off the government with phony disability claims, and all the rest. But, irrespective of their fall from grace, they vote and donate to those who promise them the most benefits. American politics would turn on a dime if they woke up.

Yes, I always found it interesting and sad and maddening that people who will go over a referred article in a prestigious medical journal will take at face value what is in the NYT.

They are the JAYVEEEEEEE, and they have no idea how to run anything EXCEPT for a MARXIST political campaign. The point being I’m a pretty crappy sailor, but lowly me could have avoided Farsi island with even commercially available equipment if I had wanted to. And these boats had better, and their crews were theoretically at least trained to use what equipment they had.
I seriously doubt we’ll ever get past the WTF phase of this presidency.
