Whistleblower Claims DHS Halted Surveillance That Could’ve ID’ed CA Terrorists

Filed under: General — Dana @ 7:03 am

[guest post by Dana]

Unbelievable:

A former Homeland Security employee says he likely could have helped prevent the San Bernardino terror attack if the government had not pulled the plug on a surveillance program he was developing three years ago.

Philip Haney told Megyn Kelly tonight that as part of his investigation, he was looking into a collection of global networks that were infiltrating radical Islamists into the U.S.

But a year into the investigation, Haney said they got a visit from the State Department and the Homeland Security Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, who said that tracking these groups was problematic because they were Islamic.

Wow. Political correctness played a part in the deaths of 14 Americans last week??

His investigation was shut down and 67 of his records were deleted, including one into an organization with ties to the mosque in Riverside, Calif., that San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook attended.

Haney explained that if his work was allowed to continue, it could possibly have thwarted last week’s attack.

“Either Syed would have been put on the no-fly list because association with that mosque, and/or the K-1 visa that his wife was given may have been denied because of his association with a known organization,” Haney explained.

Is it just me or does it appear as if the safety of all Americans is not the top priority of this White House?

DHS disputes aspects of Haney’s account, but offered no further comment.

  3. every time failmericans get slaughtered by Obama’s terrorist refugee filth it’s an opportunity for our fascist government to encroach further on civil liberties

it may seem unfair, but troublemakers like Philip Haney simply don’t have a constructive role to play in these endeavors

  4. It is not just you Dana.
BUT – if this really happened, Haney should have revealed it at the time the program was stopped.

  5. Greetings:

Face it, where Islamania is concerned America has been led into an era similar to the Natives-Volcano-Virgins or one of those Aztec open-heart surgery clinics. The American herd is going to be culled from time to time by those Islamanics and it does not fit the illusory world-view of our Progressive rulers to do anything too effective to prevent it. So, just try to convince yourself that it’s all for the good and things will be better in the future when we all have learned to enjoy our submission and the occasional sacrifice.

  7. Wow! Far out man! It’s like deja vu all over again:

Here’s an excerpt from Breitbart (emphasis added)

Jamie Gorelick Who ‘Helped to Bring us 9/11 AND Housing Collapse’ Is On Short List to Lead FBI

by JEFF DUNETZ 24 Mar 20115

Barack Obama really knows how to pick them. It’s not often that one person plays key roles in two — count ‘em, two — trillion-dollar disasters but Jamie Gorelick is one. She helped to bring us 9/11 and the collapse of the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Ms. Gorelick is on the presidental short list to be the head of the FBI.

As Deputy Attorney General under Bill Clinton from 1994 to 1997 Jamie Gorelick wrote the memo that created the now infamous “Gorelick Wall.” A 1995 memo she wrote, stated explicitly that they would “go beyond what is legally required, [to] prevent any risk of creating an unwarranted appearance that FISA is being used to avoid procedural safeguards which would apply in a criminal investigation.” These rules were, shortly after their creation, expanded to regulate such communications in future counter-terrorism investigations. It set a procedure where various intelligence operations could not share information with each other.

Jamie Gorelick’s wall barred anti-terror investigators from accessing the computer of Zacarias Moussaoui, the 20th hijacker, already in custody on an immigration violation shortly before 9/11.

At the time, an enraged FBI investigator wrote a prophetic memo to headquarters about the wall

‘Whatever has happened to this — someday someone will die — and wall or not — the public will not understand why we were not more effective in throwing every resource we had at certain problems…..especially since the biggest threat to us UBL [Usama bin Laden], is getting the most protection.

Here’s another “fun” Jamie Gorelick story. She was a member of the 9/11 commission but did not share her “wall memo” with anyone until, Attorney General John Ashcroft was blasted for the “wall” while he was testifying before the 9/11 commission and said:

“Although you understand the debilitating impact of the wall, I cannot imagine that the commission knew about this memorandum, so I have declassified it for you and the public to review,” he said. “Full disclosure compels me to inform you that its author is a member of this commission.”

OOPS! Hey She forgot to share that memo. I am sure she is sorry.

Gorelick’s “wall” blocked America’s view just when it needed its vision to stop the worst terrorist attack ever on our shores. But that was her encore. Before that she worked on destroying the economy…

  8. Is it just me or does it appear as if the safety of all Americans is not the top priority of this White House?

First off Dana, f the safety of all Americans was anywhere on the list of priorities everyone here and in government would be clamoring for the removal of all moslems from the United States.

Now it is no surprise the elite, who go around in bullet proof vehicles, with armed guards and live in secure residences display angst for guys like me who state the obvious: moslems have declared war on us, throw them out. I would insist the same for any group who declared war on us whether religious or national. Then there’s the president who lives behind a guarded fence (like the one he says won’t work on the border), with a bevy of armed guards, Marines and Secret Service people all armed with fully auto weapons. He goes nowhere without an armored and bomb resistant limousine and a SWAT team with snipers and when he flies it’s with a fighter escort. What’s he worried about, widows and orphans?

But for all of you folks from the president to the democrat/socialists, to Republicans to the heads on TV I say this: if you’re not willing to face the truth that moslems are the problem and should not be here then every death is your fault. If you throw out the terrorists they can’t kill us here now can they? But if you let even one stay and that one gets “radicalized” then you are as guilty as he, or she.

If we could somehow pick the bad ones from among the good ones I’d be all for it. But since we can’t they all have to go or you will be burying your loved ones for years to come. Then ISIS really wins and if PC has you shaking like frightened dogs lest you “offend” some moslem in the eyes of an ACLU member then ISIS wins again.

  9. This administration is not interested in protecting American citizens or even in protecting America. This administration is doing everything they can to destroy the US and encouraging terrorist infiltration through porous borders or by importing them directly as refugees is part of their plan. If a few citizens die in the process it makes no difference as long as their goals are achieved. And the worst part is the “opposition” party doesn’t oppose anything. They willingly contribute as much as they can to the destruction.

Is it any wonder that Trump appeals to a large number of people? Anyone who believes his nomination as the gop candidate seals the fate of the party ignores the fact that he has a broad appeal across party lines and is developing a “Reagan” constituency. The obama administration has put in a lot of effort to kill blue collar jobs in America but there are still blue collar democrats and Trump’s positions resonate with them.

  10. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” (George Santayana)

Consider what happened in summer 2001, when Phoenix FBI agent Kenneth Williams urged his superiors to investigate militant Muslim men whom he suspected of training in U.S. flight schools as part of al-Qaeda missions.

Williams’ recommendation was rejected, FBI Director Robert Mueller later said, partly because of concerns that the plan could be viewed as discriminatory racial profiling.

Mueller acknowledged that if Williams’ Phoenix profiling memo had been shared with the agency’s Minneapolis office, which had unsuccessfully sought a special intelligence warrant to search suspected terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui’s laptop computer, the warrant might have been granted.

If the FBI had taken Williams’ advice, the feeling of some Arabs and Muslims might have been hurt. But the Twin Towers might still be standing and 3,000 innocent people might be alive today.

  12. I hate saying it, but the pushback against actual counter terror intel analysis, following the evidence where ever it lead, started under Bush. It got turned up to eleventy under Obama, don’t get me wrong. But it didn’t start with him.

Basically what this amounts to is that the Muslim Brotherhood advisers to the administration get to shut down any lines of investigation that they deem harmful to the cause of Islam. This is the equivalent of being forced to rely on the advice of the KGB during the Cold War.

It is difficult for an untwisted individual to describe twisted thinking, but I’ll do my best. The “logic” is that since terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, any counter terror analysis that involves studying Islamic primary sources is invalid. It doesn’t matter that you can’t understand what ISIS or AQ commanders are referring to in their public statements without reading the sacred texts of Islam. Since the USG has deemed Islam to have no connection to terrorism, based upon the advice of their MB confidantes, by definition no study of Islam can possibly bear any fruit. So it can’t be allowed.

At best such study is a waste of time. At worst it’s Islamophobia.

  13. Well, it is obvious that you are correct, Steve57, as the ignoring of the 9/11 gang was long before Obama,
but was it Bush’s responsibility, or the responsibility of the FBI that Clinton put in place??

  14. I like to kick things off by starting from the obvious, Dottore, for several reasons. One, the only thing I’ve ever mastered is the obvious. Captain Obvious, if you will. Two, because working from the obvious I tend to believe this guy’s story. It has the ring of truth.

It may be equally obvious, which is why it’s a shame I need to point it out, but the ability to grasp the obvious is in short supply in government these days. We’ve all been kicked out by the “I don’t know the facts, but I don’t need facts to know the Cambridge Police Department acted stupidly” crowd.

If I were to fix blame I couldn’t pin it on a single agency or administration. Instead I would pin it on the bureaucrats who desperately want to appear sophisticated by adopting all the liberal conceits which are fashionable in the academy. And these creatures exist across the board, at DoJ, DoD, DoS, etc.

28 kg Turkish Get Up at 123 lbs Bodyweight

I must have been crazed. Or, more likely, I wasn’t thinking about form. I can’t do that!

Fortunately like all multi-point exercises you can break that one down into its component parts. So I do what is called Turkish sit-ups. The first 25 seconds, when go she lifts herself up on her elbow, then drives herself up into a sitting position on the palm of her hand. At which point I back down the same way I got up. First to the elbow, then to the back, then repeat. Two sets of ten.

I do the bridging motion as a separate exercise. It’s more suitable to my advanced state of age, decay, and decrepitude. And then, Hello! Standing. Not doing that.

My innovation is I use an Indian club instead of a kettlebell so I can simulate the stabbing motion I’m most likely going to need should a Muslim take a sudden dislike to me and go all jihadi.
