President Obama Doesn’t Want You To Jump To Any Conclusions

Filed under: General — Dana @ 5:58 pm

[guest post by Dana]

President Obama on the San Bernardino attack:

It is possible that this was terrorist-related, but we don’t know. It’s also possible that this was workplace-related.

What law enforcement found in the garage at the house in Redlands:

A search of that property revealed 12 pipe bombs in the garage as well as “hundreds” of tools to construct IEDs and “other material to produce some additional bombs.” Thousands more rounds of ammunition were also stored there.

Barguan said at this point they don’t know of plans for another attack, but “clearly they were equipped” to stage another. “We intercepted them before that happened,” he said.

Now that’s some thoughtful preparation by Syed Farook: Hm, what should I have on hand in case I get really, really annoyed with my co-workers…

UPDATE BY PATTERICO: Also the guy was in touch with a bunch of international terrorists but what does that really mean after all?

  1. This is going down as “workplace violence” because that fits the gun-control agenda and meme far more suitably than does “terrorist attack”. But I guess with executive action, it doesn’t really matter much. And who has time to focus on security when there is a legacy to be concerned with and political points to be scored.

  2. Paying attention to this last shooting real time was something else. Initial reports stated that it was “White Men” and all the liberal commenters were spewing whatever garbage they wanted to about white guys and gun control.

Then reports started coming out that it was Arab attackers, which immediately switched liberal commenter tunes to “That is unconfirmed.” There was also a stab at a technicality that Arabs are technically white people also.

Then once the name was official, everyone switched to the workplace violence angle and also asked for people to wait for the news to come out.

While the Arba’een is a distinctively Shi’a spiritual exercise, Sunni Muslims and even Christians, Yazidis, Zoroastrians, and Sabians partake in both the pilgrimage as well as serving of devotees. Pilgrims from European countries including Sweden, Russia and even a delegation from Vatican City have joined in past observances. Some Iraqi Christian religious leaders also joined the delegation from the Vatican.

Many delegations from various African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Senegal have also participated in the Arba’een.

  28. Liz Sheld at PJ Media reports (12/4/15) the following:

ATF Says Weapons Used in San Bernardino were Illegal in California

…More information about the San Bernardino massacre is trickling out as federal officials investigate details surrounding the attack on a county employee Christmas party. Many people, including myself, were curious about the firearms used since California has notoriously strict gun regulations. Reports of “automatic weapons” and even “semi-automatic assault-style weapons” seemed to be disconnected from California’s almost uniform prohibition on such firearms.

Another reason the guns in question are important is that the left and its media handmaidens swiftly mobilized to beat the gun control drum…even before the shooters were permanently put out of business.

The media proudly reports that the firearms were purchased legally. They are trying to create the narrative that the current gun laws allowed this to happen. They want you to know “Hey, this was all legally done. We need more laws to stop this from happening again.”

But not so fast. It maybe true that these guns were purchased legally, but they were not used legally and in fact, they were modified in violation of the California firearm laws says the ATF.

While they were originally sold legally, with magazine locking devices commonly known as bullet buttons, the rifles were subsequently altered in different ways to make them more powerful, according to Meredith Davis, a special agent with the ATF.
The Smith & Wesson rifle was changed in an attempt to enable it fire in fully automatic mode, while the DPMS weapon was modified to use a large-capacity magazine, she said.

Those alterations made the weapons unlawful under California’s ban on assault weapons, which bans guns with magazines that can detach for quick reloading.

The state legally allows the sale and ownership of assault weapons that have fixed magazines.

While we hear more grandstanding about the need for more gun control, keep in mind all the current laws that were broken to execute this violent massacre:

The shooters used weapons they did not purchase, sounds like a straw purchase or illegal transfer.

The shooters modified guns to accept high capacity magazines.

The shooter modified guns for automatic fire.

  29. Here’s more from Liz Shed: (continued from #28)

…Can anyone think of a law we could put in place that these homicidal maniacs, or any criminal or homicidal maniac, would follow? I can’t.

And because the media is so stupid about guns, they don’t know that the firearm laws pertain not just to purchases but also to the way a gun is used. That is an inconvenient pill to swallow for the gun grabbers because if they consider the way firearms are used, the focus turns to the person using the gun and not the gun itself. Their propaganda is designed to demonize the gun, not to look at the people who are misusing firearms. They don’t want you to ask questions like “What’s going on in the inner cities of Chicago?” Instead they want you to say “Look what guns are doing to the inner cities of Chicago!”

We live in an era where no one wants to be held responsible for anything so its much easier to vilify an inanimate object. Be on alert: every time you read how these guns were legally purchased, the media is trying to put one over on you.

    ropelight (55e912)

  30. @ropelight: Doesn’t matter. The only gun control progressives will accept as a permanent state of affairs is a total gun ban. All they are trying to do is figure out how to get there from here, and every call for “common sense” measures is just cover for what they really want.

So when they say ALL PURCHASED LEGALLY!!11!!eleventy!!, and then we point out that they weren’t, they will go and say that proves we need a total ban, including manufacturing. And they need more and more mass shootings to get to that point where they think calling for a total ban will be heeded.

So expect to see more progressives explicitly call for total bannination with every mass shooting (perpetrated by white people).

    Gabriel Hanna (82f8cd)

  31. The other thing that pisses me off is the talking heads, commentators and even conservatives keep calling semi-automatic carbines assault weapons. They have allowed the anti-gun movement to define guns. In what world does that make sense? They allowed the same crap to happen with so-called cop killer bullets and Saturday night specials. None are accurate, none are the correct names for the items in question and all serve to empower the left, the anti-gun crowd and to instill fear in people just by using a phony word or name.

And a bunch of crazy criminals are “terrorists” along with Wayne LaPierre according to the Daily News. But allowing 10 million unknown Mexicans and 100,000 non veted Syrians in is sane?

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie™ (f4eb27)

  32. It’s the Christian Jew’s fault!

I heard last night on either CNN or Fox [they’re next to each other on my tv’s non-existent dial and I switch back and forth] that Farook got into an argument with a devout Christian about whether Islam was a religion of peace [the Christian ultimately won that argument in what can only be described as a Pyrrhic victory]. The report stated that the argument continued at the event on Wednesday, and Farook left and returned with his lovely wife. Farook was obviously triggered by the Islamophobic comments of the Christian, and, per John Kerry, went on a perfectly understandable, savage, murderous, barbaric rampage.

Today, I read the article cited below in the Express from the UK that the Christian who engaged Farook in the argument was actually a Messianic Jew, who recently converted. What’s the over-under on how long until a self-loathing leftist blames San Bernardino on the Christian Jew?:

“Another victim was Nicholas Thalasinos, a Messianic Jew who wore a tie clip with the Star of David.

It is thought that the 52-year-old restaurant inspector had an argument with suspect Syed Farook about Islam just two weeks before the tragedy.

Mr Thalasinos’ wife, Jennifer, said: “My husband was just a very devout believer.

“He became born again a couple of years ago and because of that I had a very strong faith, so I know that he’s in a much better place.”

    Walter Cronanty (f48cd5)

  33. #32, Walter, Islam preaches peace among the faithful – Moslims are required by their religion to treat each other honorably and with dignity and peace. However, those prescriptions don’t apply to non-believers, not at all.

Non-believers in Islam are vulnerable to a wide array of dishonest and even deadly practices which are approved and encouraged, even required of the faithful in the actual words of the Koran itself and further described and reinforced in subsequent official Islamic texts.

So, on the one hand Islam is peaceful – but only to fellow Moslims. To all others Moslims are not only permitted but are encouraged to lie, cheat, deceive, rob, rape, and murder all in the name of Allah and with the understanding that Islam approves and justifies any and all acts of violence against non-believers. Mistreating infidels is a holy act and a religious requirement for Moslims.

Moslims are peaceful to other Moslims, but deadly to all others. Misunderstand this and one day your life may in the hands of religious fanatics out to glorify Allah and secure their place in paradise by spilling the blood of your children.

Regardless of what the Koran or anything else says (and I don’t recall it saying that but when I have time I’ll look it up) I have seen no evidence in my life that moslem pigs treat each other with any more respect or dignity or compassion than they treat Christians, Jews, Americans, French or anyone else.

  43. What causes the disconnect between California progressives and reality? First, Barbara Boxer touts California’s “sensible gun laws” as working, when in fact the weapons used in the San Bernarndino massacre were illegal under California law. Then, the California Attorney General took dead aim at what she believes caused the massacre – the First Amendment:

“The day after a horrific shooting spree by a “radicalized” Muslim man and his partner in San Bernardino, California, Attorney General Loretta Lynch pledged to a group of Muslim activists that she would take aggressive action against anyone who used “anti-Muslim rhetoric” that “edges toward violence…Claiming that violence against Muslims is on the rise and citing France’s clamp down on potentially radicalized mosques, Lynch suggested the Constitution does not protect “actions predicated on violent talk” and pledged to prosecute those responsible for such actions.” http://www.dailywire.com/news/

    Walter Cronanty (f48cd5)

  44. Absolutely, Walter, and it isn’t just Californians. Lynch is the former US Attorney from New York and the current US Attorney General. We can’t blame Cali for her extreme views.

Also, I can’t help but think that — because of those religious discussions between Farook and his Jewish co-worker — Lynch would have prosecuted the Jew.

Lots of people have noticed the leftist/Islamist alliance and the many points they have in common. You can’t go to leftist demonstration without seeing a keffiyah.

It’s time to recognize what this alliance has morphed into. The jihadists have become the armed wing of the Democratic party in their mutual war on America.

Jihadists like this couple kill Americans. Then the Democrats come into the breech, tell Americans how it’s all our fault, and that we need to change.

Dammit, we need to give up our guns.

Dammit, that Jew should have shut up! We need “hate speech” control.

‘The Future Must Not Belong To Those Who Slander the Prophet of Islam.’

Oh, and they need to import more jihadists.

  48. http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4088/islamophobia-oic-free-speech

OIC Blames Free Speech for “Islamophobia” in West

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, an influential bloc of 57 Muslim countries, has released the latest edition of its annual “Islamophobia” report.

The “Sixth OIC Observatory Report on Islamophobia: October 2012-September 2013” is a 94-page document purporting to “offer a comprehensive picture of Islamophobia, as it exists mainly in contemporary Western societies.”

But the primary objective of the OIC—headquartered in Saudi Arabia and funded by dozens of Muslim countries that systematically persecute Christians and Jews—has long been to pressure Western countries into passing laws that would ban “negative stereotyping of Islam.”

In this context, the OIC’s annual Islamophobia report—an integral part of a sustained effort to prove the existence of a “culture of intolerance of Islam and Muslims” in the West—is in essence a lobbying tool to pressure Western governments to outlaw all forms of “Islamophobia,” a nebulous concept invented by the Muslim Brotherhood in the 1990s…

As we should have well learned by now from examples given us by such luminaries like Ahmed the Clock Boy, Muslims don’t ever actually invent anything. Their ideology prohibits it (Boko haram!). They simply coopted “homophobia” from the gay rights movement.* These “phobias” are simply verbal cudgels to be used to beat people saying perfectly sensible and truthful things into submission.

And never forget, Islam means submission.

All over Europe now it is illegal to say things that are not only reasonable but entirely truthful about Islam or Muslims. Truth is not a defense. The only thing that matters is, do Muslims, their leftist allies, or the government (but I repeat myself) object to what the individual said. If so, guilty.

…But the common thread that binds the entire document together is the OIC’s repeated insistence that the main culprit responsible for “the institutionalization of Islamophobia” in Western countries is freedom of speech, which the OIC claims has “contributed enormously to snowball Islamophobia and manipulate the mindset of ordinary Western people to develop a ‘phobia’ of Islam and Muslims.”…

    And the OIC has allies.

    http://www.state.gov/secretary/20092013clinton/rm/2011/07/168636.htm

Remarks at the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) High-Level Meeting on Combating Religious Intolerance

    Remarks
    Hillary Rodham Clinton
    Secretary of State
Center for Islamic Arts and History
    Istanbul, Turkey
    July 15, 2011

…I want to applaud the Organization of Islamic Conference and the European Union for helping pass Resolution 16/18 at the Human Rights Council. I was complimenting the secretary general on the OIC team in Geneva. I had a great team there as well. So many of you were part of that effort. And together we have begun to overcome the false divide that pits religious sensitivities against freedom of expression, and we are pursuing a new approach based on concrete steps to fight intolerance wherever it occurs. Under this resolution, the international community is taking a strong stand for freedom of expression and worship, and against discrimination and violence based upon religion or belief.

These are fundamental freedoms that belong to all people in all places, and they are certainly essential to democracy. But as the secretary general just outlined, we now need to move to implementation. The resolution calls upon states to protect freedom of religion, to counter offensive expression through education, interfaith dialogue, and public debate, and to prohibit discrimination, profiling, and hate crimes, but not to criminalize speech unless there is an incitement to imminent violence. We will be looking to all countries to hold themselves accountable and to join us in reporting to the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights on their progress in taking these steps…

I don’t think I need to tell anyone that when Hillary! says she’s taking a strong stand for freedom of expression we can all ROLF! Just ask the owner of the Laugh Factory how much Hillary! values freedom of expression.

And what are we to make of that word “incitement” these days now that children have been taught by leftists of Hillary!’s generation to believe words they don’t like are violence? Again look at what is happening on college campuses.

Oh,and who else are raised to believe words (or cartoons) are also violence? The people John Kerry, another leftist of Hillary!’s generation, are capable of committing “legitimate” terrorism. Or if not quite legitimate it has a rationale he can understand.

These people blame videos for attacks on our diplomatic facitilies and and Planned Parenthood offices. They hate the first amendment as much as any Saudi cleric ever born. Which is why they are importing the like minded. Every time they blow up (literally) it will be America’s fault.

*I hope gay people enjoy their short-lived right to “marry” in Europe. I’ve keep trying to point out that once a society suicidally decides that marriage no longer has producing children at its very core, and thus precludes the silly concept that the definition can be stretched to include same sex couples, that society is well on its way to being replaced by a society with much more retrograde views on that as well as many other topics. But I expect to be called a “homophobe” until well after the first gay man is thrown off a building in Hamburg.

    Steve57 (a13395)

  49. 40.Hoagie, you’re both right and so am I. Not all Moslims are strict followers of Islamic religious tenets, just like all Jews, Christians, Hindus, and Budists are strict followers of the tenets of their respective religions. Those facts do not in any way discredit the Koran’s requirements for the observant faithful: peace among Moslims, deceit, crime and death to all others.

I understand that as is true in all religions, not all moslems are strict followers of their tenets. However, when a group or tribe of moslems goes out and slaughters and enslaves another group of moslems (happened a thousand times in history I bet) all the rest of those moslems don’t rise up and crush the bad guys for not showing “peace among moslems”. They just don’t care, ropelight. Each sect believes in killing not just infidels, Christians, apostates and queers, but any other sect that doesn’t believe EXACTLY what they believe. It’s like Presbyterians killing Methodists because they celebrate communion differently.

IOW, the very core of Islam is rotten and no good ever comes from it. They would kill every one on earth and kill each other right down to the final surviving sect and not think a thing of it. It’s not a religion it’s a psychotic disease and like all diseases we need to find a way to eliminate it.

I know it’s politically incorrect and “bigoted” to say all that but then I’m not the guy practicing the so-called religion that kills everybody am I? I’ve known moslems personally and although I found them to be oddballs by American standards they seemed like nice folks. Then they started blowing sh!t up, killing Americans and things changed. I read the Koran, then read it more. Then I read other moslem books and realized they are not a religion. They are a State. They do not fit under “religious freedom” in America. They fit in under Sedition and enemies of the state and to allow them here among us is criminal negligence.

P.S. The Prophetby Kahlil Gibran and Freddie Mercury are both still some of my favorites. Hell, that should be good for two “phobia’s”.
