Obama Begins Purchasing His Legacy

Dana earlier today contrasted the vigor with which the Obama Justice Department has prosecuted junior officers who mishandled classified information with their equanimity and apparent lethargy in investigating the mishandling of information by former Secretary of State Hillary! Rodham Clinton, the once and future inevitable President of the United States. Dana also pointed out that Bill Clinton had a golf date with President Obama this past weekend, and wondered if these issues were on the discussion agenda between the two.

In another interesting coincidence, the New York Times reported yesterday that Obama is ramping up the effort to launch his Presidential Library, which will now include a charitable foundation with, in the Times’ words, “a worldwide reach.” The President recently convened a meeting with assorted billionaires, intellectuals, and pretty Hollywood activists to map out his strategy. From the Times:

Supporters have urged Mr. Obama to avoid the mistake made by Bill Clinton, whose associates raised just enough money to build his library in Little Rock, Ark., forcing Mr. Clinton to pursue high-dollar donors for years to come. Including construction costs, Mr. Obama’s associates set a goal of raising at least $800 million — enough money, they say, to avoid never-ending fund-raising. One top adviser said that $800 million was a floor rather than a ceiling.

It’s an interesting contrast between President Obama and his party’s most immediate predecessor, and perhaps the only time we were ever hear a lamentation that the Clinton Foundation failed to raise enough money. A cynic might wonder if the conversation during the golf outing might have revolved around President #44 asking President #42 how to go about living a life of extravagance and wealth while charging most of it back to the foundation, but let’s put that aside for a moment. Another delicious nugget buried in the Times story is this:

At a dinner this year at Spruce, a restaurant in the Presidio Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, Mr. Obama urged technology executives to focus their philanthropic efforts on helping government become more efficient, giving some the impression that the topic would most likely be a theme of his agenda after leaving office.

Because one thing we all think of when contemplating the Obama Presidency is his unending focus on making government more efficient.

Naturally, with the Times being the Times, no attention at all is paid to the potential conflicts of interest in having a sitting President trying to raise close to $1 billion while still occupying the Oval Office, especially a President who has shown a willingness to rule via Executive Order without regard to any Constitutional boundaries. One might think that the Times would recall what happened when well-heeled donors like Denise Rich wrote checks to the Clinton Foundation while simultaneously seeking a pardon for her ex-husband, but, as Hillary! would certainly tell us, that is old news. Speaking of Hillary!, I wonder what she and the other Democrat candidates think about having Obama shake down rich liberals right as they are hoping to raise campaign money from the very same folks and promising if elected to raise their taxes to boot.

  1. Maybe I’m being unfair: maybe President Obama really is interested in government efficiency, it’s just government accountability that he disdains.

  2. Obama’s likely legacy is Tel Aviv destroyed and Iran a glass plain.

  3. Obama’s legacy is and will be the minority vote. Republicans have never gotten more then 61% of white vote and will need 65% of white vote in 2016! And it goes up 1% every presidential election cycle. 100,000 minority kids turn voting age every month and 20,000 old white conservatives die off every month! Do the math.

  4. It amazes me how these leftist dogs associate with all these millionaires and billionaires raising what nowadays amounts to trillions and none of their constituents think a thing of it. But let a CEO get a $20 million bonus and all hell breaks loose. Plus, these guys are always talking about “raising taxes on the rich” yet all their taxes seem to fall on the middle class. Like new coal and electric taxes or gas taxes or cell phone taxes. And all the while they’ve been in office the “income gap” had widened. Yet none of the morons who consistently vote for these thieves realize it. They go blissfully through life pulling the democrat lever all the while getting it up the a$$ by the people they vote for.

They raise the taxes on the rich who then raise the prices of their goods and services for the middle class and poor. Then they up regulations and minimum wages on the companies owned by the rich and they rise their prices once again. Then the middle gets raises and pay more taxes to the government who gives free cheese and cash cards to the poor. So the rich get richer, the poor get new benefits and the working man gets screwed, priced out of the market or outsourced.

  6. Come the day that all the brand new young minority voters with their free health care and free college educations find that (1) there are no new jobs being created for them and (2) they are expected to pay for the irresponsible retirement promises made to aging white Baby Boomers, I’m going to suggest that they all go over to Perry’s house and take it up with him. As Mrs. Thatcher reminded us, eventually socialists run out of other people’s money to spend.

  7. Perry may be correct. Obamas legacy just may be turning the great Constitutional Republic into a socialist banana republic. He certainly seems to be trying to turn America into Detroit. He’s managed to create a pool of angry minorities and he seems determined to set race relations back 80 years. Add to that his allowing the proliferation of anti American moslems and his legacy of hate and destruction is complete.

  8. JD and JVW, you guys don’t know Perry like I do. He sits there spouting his leftist dogma and when someone tries to talk sense into him he puts his fingers in his ears and goes la-la-la-la-.

    Thanks Hoagie.

  15. How on earth did you get to meet Perry?

    Gazzer (feaf20)

  16. It’s true. A few years back several of us who post at The First Street Journal, run by “the other” Dana all met in Hatboro, PA for lunch one day. We had a nice meal, talked and had fun. Perry, BTW, was a friendly, cordial guy. But that was a few years ago before he went radical and decided vile, hateful speech was his new gig.

    Hoagie (f4eb27)

  17. What a strange transformation. Wonder what pushed him over the edge. You’d think we’d be the crazies after almost 7 years of TFG.

    Gazzer (feaf20)

  18. #17, There was no transformation, Perry was fully invested in vile hateful comments long before Hoagie generously picked up the lunch tab. However, I do recall reports that Perry behaved himself that day, but his behavior was thoroughly unacceptable well prior to and long after the lunch meeting. Perry’s obnoxious behavior did continue to escalate to the point Dana banned him and he tried to inflict his idiocy here.

  19. Perry had help. He was already accusing people of not putting forth their economic plans after seeing them time and time again. He did that on Delaware Libertarian and they had enough of him after a long time. That was before he went crazy on Common Sense Political Thought, which went archive-only and The First Street Journal came out, and Perry stayed crazy on TFSJ till he was banned. He tried a few times to come back on there, then backed off — for a while. Now, his socks have started infesting that site again.

But back to the “he had help” thing. PIATOR, that Socialist America-hater from New Zealand, was pumping lots of crap, and Perry became mini-me, and got egged on by PIATOR. The Iowa Liberal guys helped to some extent, but they got fed up with Perry after a while, too. And of course, Blubonnet, that Oregonian or Washingtonian who never met a conspiracy that was too crazy for her, piled on, and Perry had to out-crazy and out-hate her. Then 2010 and 2014 helped push him over the edge.

  20. Where Perry threatens the livelihood of a commenter because the commenter assertively made his opinions on matters known, and Perry didn’t like those opinions:

  21. Where Perry falsely accused others of not having a plan:

    https://truthbeforedishonor.wordpress.com/2011/09/12/where-is-your-plan/

Note, that article was written in 2011, when I had had enough of his lies, so much so, that I wrote an entire article about it, sourcing Delaware Liberal’s 2009 article, where they had had enough of this particular lie, so much so, that they wrote an entire article pointing out how much he was lying about it.

    John Hitchcock (4b553d)

  22. Not Delaware Liberal. Delaware Libertarian. (Couldn’t you Libertarians change your names so it isn’t so close to Liberal?)

  24. My life sucks, too. I’ve never met Hoagie or adj Dana. But I did drive past adj Dana’s house just recently, after dark. That’s not a highway I want to drive my truck on again. They paint the edge lines about a foot and a half into the grass and make the lanes wide enough for a Yugo, and curvy and steep and stuff.

  25. EWPJ,

Snopes says that she wasn’t fired, but they have to dredge through a lot of truly awful things she DID do to get there.

Kind of “well, she did lie her ass off, she did hide information from the committee, she did write opinions she knew had no basis in fact, but she didn’t actually get fired.”
