AG Who Supported Planned Parenthood Opposition To Partial-Birth Abortion Ban To Investigate PP Videos

Filed under: General — Dana @ 5:12 pm

[guest post by Dana]

One day after the release of a second Planned Parenthood video, Livers for Lambos, which showed another high-ranking Planned Parenthood official haggling over the price of fetal baby parts, Republican senators sent Attorney General Lynch a letter demanding an investigation:

Sens. Mike Lee (Utah), along with 10 others, sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell on Tuesday, urging them to examine whether the organization broke a law that bans the sale of fetal tissue.

“The disturbing facts revealed in this video raise the question whether the employees of a federally funded organization have violated federal law by engaging in the transfer of human fetal tissue for profit,” they wrote.

Also reeling from the videos, House Democrats sent their own letter demanding an investigation into the group responsible for… making the undercover videos :

A group of Democrats, led by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), sent a letter Wednesday to the Department of Justice arguing the undercover videos from The Center for Medical Progress may have broken federal and state laws.

Their letter expressed concern about the tactics used by the pro-life group to gain access to high-level officials in Planned Parenthood:

“This elaborate scheme raises serious questions about whether any federal or state laws were violated in securing the LLC or the personal identification that were part of its execution,” the Democrats wrote to Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

The members also raised questions about “possible coordination between the Center for Medical Progress and members of Congress who knew about the first video weeks in advance of its release.”

Yesterday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced her department will be investigating the matter:

Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Wednesday that the Justice Department is examining “all the information” surrounding two videos that Republicans say are evidence that Planned Parenthood may be illegally selling fetal remains for profit.

“I’m aware of those matters generally from the media and some inquiries that have been made to the Department of Justice,” Lynch said. “And at this point, we are going to review all the information and determine what steps we need to take.”

As a reminder, during her confirmation hearing, Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch was asked whether she had once signed onto a brief supporting Planned Parenthood’s opposition to partial-birth abortion ban. Lynch confirmed that she had.

She argued that the ban against the killing of partially born children was “unconstitutionally vague and threatens the integrity of the criminal justice system.”

Wouldn’t it be something if AG Lynch had an epiphany and could see the gruesome butcher market for what it really is, and as a result, develop a deep resolve of single-minded focus on truth – politics be damned? This no matter what it might cost her professionally, no matter that Democrats and Planned Parenthood are two sides of the same coin, no matter anything because the brutality must be stopped, and the back of this sacred cow must be broken instead of the back of a baby. God willing, it will be at the hands of this woman. I’m not too optimistic. But I am always with hope.

It’s a nice thought, but probably too much of a stretch. Loretta Lynch is relatively young (just turned 56) as far as DC Democrats go, so she probably has ambitions that last another decade or more. If not with a prominent position in a Hillary! administration then maybe as a federal judge or even, dare we say, a Supreme Court Justice. No way she crosses the party that has been her major patron throughout her career.

Scientists warn Hayward Fault expected to produce much larger quake

The quake caused some BART delays early today while work crews checked the tracks, but appears to have caused no major damage. At least 13 smaller quakes or aftershocks have been reported near the same location as of 6:42 a.m., the largest of which was a 2.7-magnitude at 2:56 a.m.

While damage from the quake was minimal, scientists warn that a much larger one is expected on the Hayward Fault, which extends from San Pablo Bay in the north to Fremont in the south and passes through heavily populated areas including Berkeley, Oakland, Hayward and Fremont.

  15. Frankly I think all that’s going to happen is the feds will waltz in, claim their investigation takes precedence of over the state investigations, seize the Center for Medical Progress’ tapes so they can’t release anymore, and shut everyone up.

It’s right out of the Holder stonewall playbook. They’ll just bury it as an ongoing investigation until Obama leaves office.

Obama is joined at the hip to PP, so it isn’t as if Lynch would have a free hand to investigate PP even if she were inclined to do so.

  20. AZ Bob,

I wonder about that, too. I’ve been reading about the laws for recordings by journalists. It varies state to state and some cover secretly filming others. Then there’s this:

Criminal purpose. Federal law requires only one-party consent to the recording and disclosure of a telephone conversa- tion, but explicitly does not protect the taping if it is done for a criminal or tortious purpose. Many states have similar exceptions. Employees of a “psychic hotline” who were secretly recorded by an undercover reporter working for “Primetime Live” sued ABC for violation of the federal wiretapping statute, arguing that the taping was done for the illegal purposes of invading the employees’ privacy. The federal appellate court in Pasadena (9th Cir.) affirmed the dismissal of the employees’ claim in September 1999. Accord- ing to the court, an otherwise legal taping that is done to achieve a “further impropriety, such as blackmail,” becomes a violation of the law. But even if ABC’s means of taping were illegal because the act violated the employees’ privacy, that does not make the taping illegal under the wiretap act, the court held. Because the employees “produced no probative evidence that ABC had an illegal or tor- tious purpose” when it made the tape, the reporter did not violate the federal statute. (Sussman v. American Broadcasting Co.)

  28. Yep, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but the one thing that irks me the most — above all else — about the liberals/Democrats not just being complacent about partial-birth abortions but also having the gall to deem that the undercover videos revealing just how bad PP really is are unfair, underhanded and illegal in their own right are their belief that liberalism imbues a person with great compassion, kindness, humaneness and sophistication.

Instead of such a disgusting contradiction being pointed out and emphasized in the public forum far and wide, we get occasions like a George W Bush (several years ago—but the situation still holds true today) pushing the idea that conservatism needs to be “kinder and gentler.”

Hence, political correctness and squish-squish off the deep end.

  32. Interesting. Apparently some corporate “sponsors” are noticing a problem.

A representative from Coca-Cola confirmed for The Daily Signal the company does not contribute to Planned Parenthood, nor does it match employee contributions to the organization. When told that its name appeared on Planned Parenthood’s website, the Coca-Cola representative said, “We’ll ask them to correct the information.”

Other companies voiced similar concerns about Planned Parenthood’s donor list.

“We are making sure that Ford Motor Company is not listed as a Planned Parenthood contributor on their website,” a representative from Ford told The Daily Signal. “In addition, we do not offer an employee match for charitable contributions,” the Ford representative said. It has been at least 10 years since Ford stopped matching employee gift contributions, the representative added.

Similarly, Xerox was listed on the Planned Parenthood website and has said it also does not donate in any way. “We checked our files for the last 20 years and have no record of Xerox Corp. contributing to Planned Parenthood,” a representative from Xerox told The Daily Signal.

By Wednesday afternoon, Planned Parenthood had removed Xerox from its list of companies that match gifts to the organization. By Thursday morning, Planned Parenthood removed every company name listed as a donor.

Schweeet! 1911 snobs will sometimes claim the series 80 has an inferior trigger pull because of the firing pin block. It gives the trigger something extra to do; the firing pin block engages a notch in the firing pin until you pull the trigger, which moves the plunger out of engagement and frees the firing pin to move forward when the hammer hits it.

    http://www.sightm1911.com/images/series80fpblock-300×262.jpg

Theoretically if you dropped a pre-series 80 the firing pin was free to move and set off a chambered round even if the manual safety was on.

In reality it’s practically impossible to do that. Also in reality, most of the snobs can’t tell the difference in the trigger pull between a series 80 and a series 70 or a 1911A1.

They always reminded me of a girlfriend I used to date when I was going through a Navy school in Norfolk. She always had to have Chivas Regal and coke. Nothing less than Chivas would do for daddy’s little girl.

If we were sitting at a table she’d emphasize to the waiter or waitress that it had to be Chivas and coke. Finally I was like, “screw this.” I’d go to the bar and fetch our drinks. And I’d order her a scotch and coke. Whatever was in the well was fine. She was drowning it in coke anyway.

I’d tell her it was Chivas and she never knew the difference.
