President Obama Doesn’t Appreciate Being Challenged By Bold Reporter At Today’s Press Conference

Filed under: General — Dana @ 3:47 pm

[guest post by Dana]

This morning, President Obama took questions from reporters at a press conference about the Iran deal. Given that that four Americans remain imprisoned in Iran and their secured release was not part of the deal, CBS’s Major Garrett confronted the president:

“Why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?”

An offended President Obama shot back:

“That’s nonsense, and you should know better.”

After Garrett defended himself for his provocative question, CNN’s own resident scold, Dana Bash, took him to task:

“There’s a fine line between asking a tough question and maybe crossing that line a little bit and being disrespectful, and I think that happened here.”

On a side note, a quick perusal of the text from the president’s press conference looks to be about what you would expect. Self-congratulatory: the deal is a powerful display of American leadership and diplomacy and meets the national security interests of the United States and our allies; yes, Israel has been nervous about Iran, so it’s a good thing they will now be safer because of this deal; the next president will sure be in good shape as our top-secret plan to defeat ISIS has them on the run (Hey, how about those 60 Syrian soldiers we’ve been training!); we made concessions to Iran because they are our new friends… Stuff sort of like that.

And this:

And ultimately, it’s not the job of the president of the United States to solve every problem in the Middle East.

The people in the Middle East are going to have to solve some of these problems themselves. But I think we can provide that next president at least a foundation for continued progress in these various areas.

The last thing I would say, and this is a longer-term issue, is we have to address the youth in the region with jobs and opportunity and a better vision for the future so that they are not tempted by the nihilistic, violent, dead-end that organizations like ISIL offer. Again, we can’t do that entirely by ourselves, but we can partner with well-intentioned organizations, states, NGOs, religious leaders in the region. We have to do a better job of that than we’ve been doing so far.

(Between providing jobs and job training for the youths of the ME as well as teaching Iran how to thwart and detect threats to its nuclear program, you know, because Israel, America sure has a full plate of … other nation’s business.)

If you follow the link in the Freabeacon article you’ll find the actual traitorous text in Annex III – Civil Nuclear Cooperation (beginning page 135) section D. Nuclear Safety, Safeguards and Security, subsection 10., Nuclear Security (page 142):

    10. Nuclear Security
E3/EU+3 parties, and possibly other states, as appropriate, are prepared to cooperate
with Iran on the implementation of nuclear security guidelines and best practices. Cooperation
in the following areas can be envisaged:

    10. Co-operation in the form of training courses and workshops to strengthen Iran’s ability
to prevent, protect and respond to nuclear security threats to nuclear facilities and
systems as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical
    protection systems;

    10. Co-operation through training and workshops to strengthen Iran’s ability to protect
against, and respond to nuclear security threats, including sabotage,
    as well as to
enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems.

In other words, Mean Girl wants to make sure Israel can’t pull off another STUXNET. Which his administration was only able to compromise by exposing the program because the last time they did in cooperation with us.

  6. This president is very unused to be confronted and challenged by reporters on any level. When it happens that once in a blue moon, he is shocked and fully disrupted in his being because, doesn’t this person realize who he is talking to?!

Why didn’t they walk away from the deal then? His answer makes no sense, it just attempts to justify the deal. We made concessions out the wazoo, and we still didn’t get the prisoners.

  10. Democrats have a history of getting a lot of adulation for their foreign policy screwups. Wilson blundered us into WWI (which was none of our goddamned business) and is a Progressive Saint. FDR’s racism lead him to expect the thoroughly provoked Japanese to attack us in the Philippines, and his hubris made him think he was outsmarting Joseph Stalin, and he gets big marks for his conduct of War Policy. Truman didn’t really do too badly, considering the mess he was left with, but JFK should have either backed the Bay of Pigs OR ash canned it, and he gets big press for his “courage” (read, back rooms capitulation to the Russians) in the Cuban Crisis.

Considering how thoroughly and widely Obama has screwed the pooch on Foreign Policy (has he done ANYTHING right?) he’ll probably be deified.

    *sigh*

Maybe one of the third-world nutballs he’s always meeting will suicide bomb him.

  22. At the very least Obama could have detailed his negotiator’s efforts to free the Americans held hostage in Iran. He could have explained why the Administration’s efforts so far have been unsuccessful. He could have described his disappointment and expressed his personal commitment to reunite the grieving families. He could have been presidential.

Or, did the Administration too cowardly even to bring up the topic?

  32. Don’t Democrats ever get tired of being played for fools by this administration?

(Reuters) – Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he expects U.S. congressional Democrats to back the nuclear deal with Iran once they understand it.

“I’m here to answer questions and explain what the deal is, and I’m confident they’ll like it when they understand it all,” Biden told reporters as he headed into a meeting with Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, many of whom have expressed skepticism about the nuclear deal announced on Tuesday.

God only knows what Plugs told them in his “explanation”. Are none of these people capable of reading the deal themselves?

It’s not a hard read. It’s not the ACA; it’s only 159 pages and you don’t need to read many of them. I mean, do you really need to memorize page after page in Annex II which just lists Iranian ships by name that will be taken off the sanctions lists? You don’t need to get that down into the weeds to understand what this agreement entails.

But based on the WH talking points I’m sure whatever Sloe Joe Sheriff Biden told them is not in the agreement. Are they capable of reading it? I don’t think many of them are. Would it matter if they could read and understand it? I don’t think it will matter at all to most of them.

The agreement can’t be enforced in the real world. It isn’t designed to be enforced. And Obama doesn’t care if it works. They’ve been lying on behalf of the Iranians throughout this farce of a negotiation process precisely to cover up their violations. The interim JCPOA was sold as a “freeze” of their Nuclear program. And while Obama has been lying about some Iranian fatwa against procuring weapons (the “supreme leader” never issued such a fatwa), all the while the Iranians have been pretending to negotiate in Switzerland and Vienna they’ve been conducting industrial espionage in neighboring Germany trying to steal the technology to build nuclear weapons. This isn’t dual use; it’s just for weaponizing their nuclear program. We’re talking industrial computers, high-speed cameras, cable fiber, and pumps that would be useful both to build the warheads and develop ICBMs. And among the dirty secrets that Obama and his criminal enterprise are hiding is that ICBMs have no other use but to deliver nuclear warheads.

This is how Germany’s Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV), Germany’s domestic intelligence agency similar in function to the FBI, summed it up in their 2014 annual report, an English version of which you can download here:

    http://www.verfassungsschutz.de/en/public-relations/publications/annual-reports/annual-report-2014-summary

The Iranian intelligence services are one of the political leadership’s
key instruments for securing its claim to power. Consequently, the intelligence
services will continue to focus their activities on the Iranian
    opposition.

The regime has so far not been able to rebut claims that it is seeking to
build nuclear weapons. Despite official avowals to the contrary, Iranian
agencies are extremely interested in pursuing their illegal attempts to
procure proliferation-relevant material in Germany. In particular, they
are interested in items which can be used in the field of nuclear technology.
Iran sees itself as a regional power which is intent on shaping politics
beyond its own borders, including with a pronounced anti-Western
and anti-Zionist thrust. At the same time, there are clear indications of a
quite dramatic collapse in the country’s economic performance on account
of sanctions imposed against its nuclear programme. Given this
situation, the regime is interested both in gathering (insider) information
about the West’s future policy – for example Germany’s foreign and security policy – and in securing illegal transfer routes, in order to possibly
    circumvent sanctions.

The BfV has verified that Iran is attempting to procure goods illegally in
Germany and that these efforts have been steadily increasing in recent
years. Even in an international comparison they are currently at a quantitatively
high level. In particular, goods are being sought which can be
employed in the field of nuclear technology.

In 2014, the BfV established that Iran was making increased attempts to
procure goods which could be useful in its ambitious missile technology
programme, which could also serve the deployment of nuclear weapons.
Preventing Iran’s nuclear armament programme is a common objective
of the international community. In addition to the negotiations which
are ongoing in this area, it is essential that illegal proliferation-relevant
procurement activities be prevented – a task which requires close cooperation
between international and national security authorities. Given
the continued lack of clarity as to the overall situation, Germany anticipates
that Iran will continue its intensive procurement efforts in Germany
    (especially via covert structures).

So in a way it doesn’t matter if you are capable of reading the report. All you know is that, like border security and immigration law, Prom Queen has no intention of enforcing it. In fact, just like down at the border, he intends to help his political allies violate it.

But it’s helpful to know that it’s written so vaguely and so loosely that in many cases Obama can deny the Iranians have violated it at all. As he attempted to do when it was clear Iran intended to violate the interim JCPOA’s limit on Uranium Hexaflouride, any excess of which had to be converted into Uranium Dioxide. They busted that limit several orders of magnitude. It’s written so that they can continue to move the goalposts whenever the Iranians violate the agreement.

It’s written so that Obama, Biden, and Jarrett can continue to act as the Mullah’s domestic law firm.

We are now in the post-serious era of public responsibility. Members of Congress just assemble in various rooms when ordered to by their overseers in “leadership” roles and learn to parrot talking points by rote and go out and vote as instructed.

Just wondering if we couldn’t save money by getting rid of Congressional staffers and replace all the elected members of Congress with minions paid the minimum wage?

  38. The part about our needing to help Iran dodge sabotage of its nuke program is rubbing salt in the wound and poking fingers in Netanyahu’s eyes.

If Americans are ever harmed by an Iranian nuke I hope Obama and Kerry are still alive to be tried for treason.

Just like Obama was against SSM before he was for it (not really), don’t we have video of him saying how a nuclear Iran is not permissible? Just like every other president and presidential candidate of the last 278 years?
Though I guess he is still lying about what is in the agreement.

And it seems he wants to run it through the UN for approval before Congress gets to act on it.

  41. Or, did the Administration too cowardly even to bring up the topic?

You give them too much credit. More likely, they did not even think of doing it.

Obama wanted something to prove he was worthy of that Nobel Prize. And if allowing the Mideast to fall into nuclear chaos is the price he needs to pay, so be it. Getting American citizens out of danger would only complicate things.

    kishnevi (91d5c6)

  42. Daniel Pipes was good today on how Israel might stop Iran’s nuclear program. He suggests three possible options, with number two likely being Netanyahu’s go-to choice:

Airplanes. Airplanes crossed international boundaries and dropped bombs in the 1981 Israeli attack on an Iraqi nuclear installation and in the 2007 attack on a Syrian one, making this the default assumption for Iran. Studies show this to be difficult but attainable.

Special ops. These are already underway: computer-virus attacks on Iranian systems unconnected to the Internet that should be immune, assassinations of top-ranking Iranian nuclear scientists, and explosions at nuclear installations. Presumably, Israelis had a hand in at least some of these attacks and, presumably, they could increase their size and scope, possibly disrupting the entire nuclear program. Unlike the dispatch of planes across several countries, special operations have the advantage of reaching places like Fordow, far from Israel, and of leaving little or no signature.

Nuclear weapons. This doomsday weapon, which tends to be little discussed, would probably be launched from submarines. It hugely raises the stakes and so would only be resorted to, in the spirit of “Never Again,” if the Israelis were desperate.

  44. Of course Prom Queen doesn’t appreciate being challenged. Because his “deal” can’t withstand scrutiny. So he needs to bluff his way through this.

I can’t believe this abortion of a what can not be called a negotiation, as there were not two sides to this betrayal.

    http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2015/07/17/inspections-of-iranian-nuclear-facilities-at-any-time-are-pretty-much-bogus-n2026864

Now Wendy Sherman, a top negotiator for the Iranian nuclear deal and the same woman who handled negotiations of North Korea’s nuclear program in the 1990s (that went well), is admitting that the entire inspections process is pretty bogus (bolding is mine).

The US pledge three months ago for “anytime, anyplace” access to Iran’s nuclear facilities was more of a rhetorical flourish than anything else, US Under Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said on Thursday “I think this is one of those circumstances where we have all been rhetorical from time to time,” Sherman, who played a central role in the negotiations, said in a conference call with Israeli diplomatic reporters.

“That phrase, ‘anytime, anywhere,’ is something that became popular rhetoric, but I think people understood that if the IAEA felt it had to have access, and had a justification for that access, that it would be guaranteed, and that is what happened.”

Rhetorical flourish is this administration’s new term for lie.

And that last bit about some guarantee about IAEA access to anything is a rhetorical flourish. Who wants to bet that Obama’s repeated insistence that all options were on the table was just a rhetorical flourish as well.

When he said that, it was to claim that included the military option as well.

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/if-he-believes-it-it-must-be-so_783721.html?page=3

GOLDBERG: So just to be clear: You don’t believe the Iranian leadership now thinks that your “all options are on the table” threat as it relates to their nuclear program — you don’t think that they have stopped taking that seriously?

OBAMA: I know they take it seriously.

GOLDBERG: How do you know they take it seriously?

OBAMA: We have a high degree of confidence that when they look at 35,000 U.S. military personnel in the region that are engaged in constant training exercises under the direction of a president who already has shown himself willing to take military action in the past, that they should take my statements seriously. And the American people should as well, and the Israelis should as well, and the Saudis should as well….

GOLDBERG: So why are the Sunnis so nervous about you?

OBAMA: Well, I don’t think this is personal. I think that there are shifts that are taking place in the region that have caught a lot of them off guard. I think change is always scary.

The military option was on the table, until he announced in late May of this year that it wasn’t. That there was no military solution.

How much do you want to bet that Tiger Beat, when his mouth wasn’t otherwise occupied servicing the Mullahs, assured them that bluster about all options being on the table was just a rhetorical flourish for his neanderthal domestic audience. After all, when the Mullah’s lead chants about “Death to America,” that’s how Prom Queen excuses it.

That they’re just playing to the base at home.

And I’m serious about this President telling the Iranians that he was never going to use military force.

He sold us out, and hew was planning on selling us out all along.
