“Solid” Jobs Report Has Labor Force Participation Rate at Historic Low
AP (link to Hot Air since AP changes their articles willy-nilly):
SOLID REPORT: U.S. employers added 223,000 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate fell to a seven-year low of 5.3 percent. The rate fell mostly because many people out of work gave up on job hunting and were no longer counted as unemployed.
Ed Morrissey notes: “The new workforce participation rate is the lowest in the US since 1977.”
Remember: the availability of disability payments to healthy people has exploded under Obama. I am mystified that government policies incentivizing people to leave the workforce has the effect of causing people to leave the workforce.
Solid!
So, basically, Obama is as incompetent on the Domestic side as he is on foreign policy.
Remind me again, why we were complaining about how much time he spends playing golf?
C. S. P. Schofield (a196fd) — 7/2/2015 @ 8:02 amGood news! US retirement age lowest ever!
Kevin M (25bbee) — 7/2/2015 @ 8:24 amit seems to me that whoever wrote the AP blurb didn’t understand the memo.
Yeah, it mentions that it is a 7 year low but the very next sentence tells the reader not to believe the numbers being bandied about as reflecting actual good news.
I wonder if that is why Patterico is expecting this article to change.
seeRpea (0cf003) — 7/2/2015 @ 8:45 amI agree with CSPS, leave President Golf Cart to his private amusements. We are much better off just having to muddle along till time and a new election rids the nation of this tyrant.

Roman (0bfd6d) — 7/2/2015 @ 9:58 amIt’s an economic sleight of hand that allows Obama to proclaim that unemployment is down while the lapdog media and his worshipers don’t see that *employment* is also down.

I was going to blog on this same topic last week when we heard that the California unemployment rate had crept up, but that it was a good sign because it meant that people who had supposedly given up on the job hunt were starting to look again. Here is how the media likes to spin these types of stories:
Democrat Administration: The unemployment numbers crept up last month which economists believe is a positive sign that more people are once again looking for work after the latest recession. . . .
Republican Administration: The unemployment numbers crept up last month putting more pressure on the Administration to extend unemployment relief and take significant steps to stimulate the economy. . . .

DNF (6cda3a) — 7/2/2015 @ 12:20 pmOver 93 million Americans out of the work force and unemployment is down. We are truly in 1984. Newspeak is here.
Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27) — 7/2/2015 @ 1:03 pmSeriously, here is what Democrats tell us with a straight face:
The economy is improving and the unemployment numbers are going down, and that’s why we need to extend unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless.
It’s like deep down they know that it’s all a house of cards that will come tumbling down as soon as even the most mild breeze blows in.
JVW (05e1e2) — 7/2/2015 @ 1:11 pmre #10: well this AP writer isn’t a lapdop. the writer tells you straight off what the real deal is in the second sentence. I’m thinking that the lead “Solid Report” was written by someone else, like a headline. btw: don’t miss that the job gains reported 2 months were corrected as usual to be lower than the initial report.
seeRpea (181740) — 7/2/2015 @ 1:53 pmI feel that freeze a comin’, JVW!
Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27) — 7/2/2015 @ 2:22 pmI don’t know where else to put it and it sort of relates to jobs–so I’ll post it here:
Remember Steven Salaita, the Palestinian -American “scholar” who was inexplicably offered a tenure job to teach “American Indian Studies” at the University of Illinois? And then the offer was withdrawn by the Chancellor and the Board before classes started due to his vile and profane anti-Israel tweets that many students, alums, donors and taxpayers objected to because they believed he could not be impartial in his teaching and relations with students? And then he sued the U of I? And then FIRE blasted the U of I as one of the worst offenders against free speech? Well, the lawsuit slogs on and apparently no other great American institution of higher learning was waiting with bated breath to take him on. But he finally found a job. Do you think it will help or hinder or impact in any way his lawsuit that he is joining the faculty of the American University of Beirut?

elissa (b17622) — 7/2/2015 @ 3:21 pmI do so hope he wins and bankrupts the U of I. Then perhaps the heads of colleges will start using the brains they claim they have before they offer jobs to a$$holes.
