Associated Press: Don’t Be Stupid, Republicans, We Didn’t Mean Anything By Publishing A Photo Of Sen. Ted Cruz With A Gun Pointed At His Head

Filed under: General — Dana @ 9:00 am

[guest post by Dana]

Sen. Ted Cruz campaigned this weekend at a rally in support of the Second Amendment at CrossRoads Shooting Sports in Johnston, Iowa. Out of 14 photographs to select from, the AP chose to publish this cropped photo of Cruz taken by AP photographer Charlie Neibergall:

Untitled-2

The AP defended their publication of the photo:

“Presidential candidate Ted Cruz,” Paul Colford, vice president & director of media relations, said, “was shown in a series of 14 photos taken by an Associated Press photographer at a ‘Celebrate the 2nd Amendment’ event Saturday afternoon, held at a shooting range in Johnston, Iowa. Five of the photos published by AP included images of guns seen on a wall in the background so that it appeared a pistol was pointed at Sen. Cruz’s head.

“The images were not intended to portray Sen. Cruz in a negative light,” Colford said.

Here are several other images taken by the same photographer at the same event:

(You can see more photos of Cruz taken at the event here.)

Of course this is not to suggest that the AP would ever promote their own biases and political leanings, especially on hot button issues. Nor is it to suggest that the AP would attempt to influence voters by presenting Republicans in an unfavorable light, yet present Democrats in a favorable light. Of course not…

  1. Hello.

    Dana (86e864)

  2. “The images were not intended to portray Sen. Cruz in a negative light,” Colford said.

    This is a lie.

    The Associated Press is lying.

I don’t know what more there is to say.

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  3. I meant to boldface that egregious lie, and just did so now.

    Dana (86e864)

  4. #jesuisAP

    nk (dbc370)

  5. Of course not.

    PatAZ (9d1bb3)

  6. Imagine the same pic of Hillary! Cinton. The media would be having a shi+ hemorrhage.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  7. Hi, PatAZ, good to see you!

    Dana (86e864)

  8. Remember the Outrage from the left over Sarah Palin’s “crosshairs” map?

    Dana (86e864)

  9. What will the next photo shop be?
Ted in bed with a former olympic gold medal winning man err whatever

  10. The AP are True Believers, man.

    JWB (aedb59)

  12. Right, but a SOCIALISM poster of Obama in Joker makeup calls for a Secret Service investigation.

    CrustyB (69f730)

  13. Disgusting blatant agenda media. They don’t even pretend to be subtle anymore.

    elissa (9cc769)

  14. Proving that the standard photographers are leftist dupes. Conservatives should bring their own photographers to these events. Obviously the left does.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  15. Dana, Palin’s crosshairs were actually surveyor’s marks so that whole meme was bogus.

    Gazzer (be559b)

  16. As a photographer and videographer I call BS unless the AP wants to admit their photographer is a hack that lacks any knowledge or experience in framing subjects and proper lens work. Either way these photos are only suited for someone’s Instagram account not a major media outlet.

    Sean (69ccc8)

  17. “The media would be having a shi+ hemorrhage.”

I like the metaphor. Nice work.

    Mike K (90dfdc)

  18. The commenters at Reason were investigated for less than this. Maybe the new AG should look into this credible threat against a presidential candidate.

    Oh, wait.

    egd (1ad898)

  19. Did you see what just happened?

Happyfeet used proper punctuation throughout a complete comment.

    Bless the sweet baby Jesus.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  20. The AP gave up any pretense of being an objective news wire a long time ago.

    nk (dbc370)

  21. President Kanye interrupts the racial healing to complain that Beyonce didn’t get Tyler Swift’s music award.

    Again.

  22. #19: That’s because post #2 is NOT from happyfeet.

The tag in post number 2 is happyfeet (a037ad), while happyfeet’s actual tag is happyfeet (831175).

    navyvet (c33501)

  23. They didn’t intend to portray him negatively. Having a gun pointed at his head is a positive for them.

    JD (2fc8db)

  24. Okay, I spoke too soon. Apparently Mr. feets has more than one tag. Don’t know how this is possible, but perhaps Pat can supply an answer.

Still, the perfect grammar/punctuation makes me suspicious.

    navyvet (c33501)

  25. navyvet–work and home computers and mobile devices each send different tag numbers. depends on where the commenter is posting from.

    elissa (9cc769)

  26. i guess it’s cause i’ve got all these different machines where i make the comments Mr. navyvet

i have my phone and my work phone and my tablet and my work tablet and my work laptop and my desktop at home

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  27. except for my work phone is kinda bricked right now i think

    happyfeet (a037ad)

  28. #24: navyvet, I believe the hash tag is generated from a MAC address, but whether this is your computer’s MAC or the modem’s MAC, I’m not sure. So if you use a different computer or a different connection to the internet, the tag will change. If someone can confirm this I’d appreciate it!

    bobathome (f50725)

  29. the perfect grammar/punctuation makes me suspicious.

Me too. There’s only room for one penguin in this town.

Which one is the happyfeet with a goatee.

The one with the goatee is always the doppelganger.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  30. So I should hit refresh more often is the take away.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  31. The AP is absolutely correct, this is not intended to or in any way actually portraying Cruz in a negative light. It is just simple wishful thinking and hopeful imagery that would, if directed at a liberal, constitute a threat, but it isn’t portraying Sen. Cruz negatively.

    max (4fdf98)

  32. That is why I change my nickname to “MD not in Philly” when I’m from someplace other than home. I think I have the same ID no matter which machine I use from home, though, all going through the same modem.

I think worse than their blatant bias is their lying to our face that they aren’t doing it.

Or perhaps even worse than that is not enough of the public care enough to make anything change.

They would go so berserk if that was Obama.

    MD in Philly (f9371b)

  33. 16. As a photographer and videographer I call BS unless the AP wants to admit their photographer is a hack that lacks any knowledge or experience in framing subjects and proper lens work. Either way these photos are only suited for someone’s Instagram account not a major media outlet.

    Sean (69ccc8) — 6/22/2015 @ 10:29 am

I’ve never been paid specifically to be a professional photographer, but in a sense I was. Early in my career I was sent to Intelligence Photography school. Aircrew carry cameras, as do “snoopy teams” on surface ships to take pics of targets of interest. So I know how to use a camera, how to bracket the subject, and especially how to frame the picture.

    So this was deliberate.

    Steve57 (48418e)

  34. Ted Cruz should get 10,000 color copies of this AP photo and print on it the AP’s “defense” of the photo. Then he should hand out a copy whenever someone claims there is no media bias.

    DRJ (e80d46)

  35. Thats too bad it should have meant something like how much money did he take from the new white citizens council.

    ap (1bc5f3)

  36. We don’t link Politico here. Oops.

I meant for people to scroll over read the address then skip it, if that’s any consolation.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  37. I think Cruz should have this blown up and used as a background with the heading, America, Is Your Media Partisan? during any pressers.

    Dana (86e864)

  38. Dana, Palin’s crosshairs were actually surveyor’s marks so that whole meme was bogus.
    Gazzer (be559b) — 6/22/2015 @ 10:14 am

The point is, whether it’s bogus no longer matters. They do not care one iota about truth. Truth is malleable, and can be manipulated and tweaked to suit any liberal cause of the moment.

    Dana (86e864)

  39. We could have Hillary hunting bald eagles with a photoshop. That would be fun for when she pretends to be a hunter with the ol’ pump action shotgun (she borrows from the Secret Service detail).

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  40. Perry’s dishonesty and hatred knows no bounds.

    JD (3b5483)

  41. What I want to know is, if the picture of Jug Ears is an example of the Media trying to make a Liberal Democrat look good, who the f*ck thought it was a good image to shoot a picture of Obama looking down his nose with an arrogant sneer, and a fake “I’m a Medici and I’m Pope, so they have to pretend I’m holy” halo. I mean, it;s a great deal MORE offensive than the one at the top of the page.

Does anybody really think it was meant to be flattering?

    C. S. P. Schofield (a196fd)

  42. That’s bogus Perry. The White Citizens Councils were made up of Sothern democrats and Cruz is Republican. Everybody knows the democrats were and are racists so that bird won’t fly. Try something with the NRA at least that has credibility.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  43. hogan is republican and gave money to cruz!

    ap (1bc5f3)

  44. Does anybody really think it was meant to be flattering?

It wasn’t meant to be flattering, Mr. Schofield. It was meant to impress the divinity of the douche on the minds of the LIV. It worked. Some districts voted 105% for the idiot. These types of images manufactured and promoted by the left have a large influence on what the LIV perceives and believes to be true. That’s why we need to do the same thing, in spades.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  45. I don’t know who Hogan is.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  46. Perry’s hatred and dishonesty is a given.

    JD (3b5483)

  47. So who the hell is Hogan?

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  48. Hoagie,

I’m assuming mentally unhinged “ap” is referring to Gov. Hogan of Maryland. JVW just put up a post about his announcement just made that he is battling advanced lymphoma.

    Dana (86e864)

  49. You can’t possibly mean Gov. Hogan, can you? And what has he to do with the Citizens Council? Or do you mean Hogan’s Hero’s? Or Hulk Hogan?

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  50. I guess the nutcase is referring to Gov. Hogan. So what’s up with that? I really thought there was some other Hogan I was missing.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  51. Dana (#8): I had exactly that same reaction, and thought instantly about Gov. Palin.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  52. Yeah, bullshit. I can see it when it is so obvious what the news service is intending.

    Cheshirecat (4ac1cf)

  53. AP lies. Hope they die violent cancerous death in mass quantities.

    Rodney King's Spirit (b31520)

  54. It’s because guns are bad.

    stir (0f3b82)

  55. The flying car. Finally.

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  56. It’s because the Democrat media know that the next President will be a Republican, and they’re trying to get the most wishy-washy to be the nominee.

    nk (dbc370)

  57. Who would that be, nk?

    Dana (86e864)

  58. It’s not Cruz, I’m pretty sure. Rubio is the one with the least “there, there” in my opinion, just another Obama with an R after his name, but I’m not sure the left and Goldman Sachs would agree withe me. They might prefer Jeb Bush.

    nk (dbc370)

  59. Bush is harmless to Obama’s legacy that’s for sure

that whole family is just nasty and useless

but then, so is failmerica anymore

    happyfeet (831175)

  60. Sorry, perry… Sheriff Bull Conner – the racist clown who loosed the dogs and turned the fire hoses on the black demonstrators in the South – was a member of the Democratic National Committee.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  61. what democrats are doing by letting illegals flood into failmerica is the mostest anti-black thing i ever seen my whole life

    it’s pure hatred

gives me the wiggins it do

    papertiger (c2d6da)

  63. Stir/imdw is unwilling to let Perry be the biggest douchenozzle of the thread.

    JD (3b5483)

  64. you are not thinking like a leftist. to a leftist the two middle pictures which show Cruz confabulating with two people who have (shudder, horror!) guns and enjoying himself in doing so are the negative pictures.

    kishnevi (91d5c6)

  65. This is something the house speaker coordinated with the photographer. The speaker and team republican love them some killing off of conservative people. If I was a conservative I would vote with democrats before I would ever vote with team traitor.

    mg (31009b)

  66. Boehner is a disgusting drunk..

    mg (31009b)

  67. Boehner is a disgusting sober, too, paisan.

    Steve57 (48418e)

  68. How long till boehner wants all conservatives in a fema death camp?

    mg (31009b)

  69. If boehner was a confederate flag waving homosexual drunk, would he be mentioned?

    mg (31009b)

  70. 69.If boehner was a confederate flag waving homosexual drunk, would he be mentioned?

    Yes, but as Minority Leader.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  71. Hoagie,

I saw plenty of messianic Obama images that would do what you said, I just question the usefulnesss of THAT one for the purpose.

Also, the 105% turnout is less LIVs turning out to vote for jug ears than it is clear and none too clever vote fraud which the Democrats decline to acknowledge.

And the Republicans haven’t the balls to persue.

    C. S. P. Schofield (a196fd)

  72. Ah, Mr. Schofield, being from Philadelphia I’m used to 105% turnout. I’ve been a committeeman and watched helplessly as democrat committee people (usually women) and union thugs drove mostly poor black folks from ward to ward to vote. I say watched helplessly because in a city of 2 million with fewer than 200,000 Republicans and zero representation in the court or on City Council there was quite literally no place to complain unless one was ready to quit work and devote all one’s time and make a federal case out of it. But remember all the democrats you’re fighting are being paid, sometimes time and a half or double time, by the city or union to fight you in court. And they’re being paid with your tx money. Cute, huh? You’re quite literally on your own both financially and legally. One could end up like my friend Leon Altemose with his property burned up.

    Rev. Barack Hussein Hoagie (f4eb27)

  73. A photo suggesting Cruz should be shot is okay but a flag is dangerous. I’m so confused.
