Hypocrisy And The NYT: Nothing New, Not Surprising, Business As Usual…

Filed under: General — Dana @ 7:09 am

More brazen hypocrisy from the New York Times:

Funny how this pitiful New York Times fails to release that Obama had 15 outstanding parking tickets dating back to the 1980’s. King Obama didn’t pay off these 15 parking tickets until just before he launched his presidential campaign in 2007. Ironic isn’t it? Remember State Department’s airhead Jen Psaki? She was a spokeswoman for the Obama campaign back in 2007 and dismissed the tickets as not relevant. But Rubio’s are according to the left wing media, just remember that.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama got more than an education when he attended Harvard Law School in the late 1980s. He also got a healthy stack of parking tickets, most of which he never paid.

The Illinois Senator shelled out $375 in January _ two weeks before he officially launched his presidential campaign _ to finally pay for 15 outstanding parking tickets and their associated late fees.

The story was first reported Wednesday by The Somerville News.

Obama received 17 parking tickets in Cambridge between 1988 and 1991, mostly for parking in a bus stop, parking without a resident permit and failing to pay the meter, records from the Cambridge Traffic, Parking and Transportation office show.

He incurred $140 in fines and $260 in late fees in Cambridge in all, but he paid $25 for two of the tickets in February 1990.

Politics aside, it’s fascinating the way that aspects of the economy — such as dead-tree publications (eg, the long-ailing, long-marginalized San Francisco Chronicle, Detroit Free Press, etc, or specialty magazines catering to leftists [The Nation] or rightists [The Weekly Standard], etc) — somehow manage to survive decade after decade, sort of like a version of the walking dead or a zombie.

I always keep this in mind when attempting to figure out the nuts and bolts of this or other societies’ economies. Simply put, the existence of people out there merely breathing and eating (or reading and subscribing to publications) will always keep X amount of financial activity going throughout a nation.

  5. Living in Los Angeles as I do, what I find newsworthy about King Obama’s parking tickets is that even with late fees, they still come to only $25 each on average.

  6. The reason King Obama’s parking tickets were so cheap is because they were on-campus fines given out by the college part of the police department.

  8. This is more “working the ref.” The Times ignoring one utterly irrelevant item while writing about another similarly irrelevant item isn’t proof of anything. The Washington Post and Boston Globe (owned at the time by the NY Times) both wrote about Obama’s parking tickets.
If any of you are intellectually honest enough to read Bob Somerby’s history of Campaign 2000 with an open mind, my guess is that you’ll come away disabused of the notion of a “liberal media.” Somerby has exhaustively documented at his blog, The Daily Howler, how the NY Times, Washington Post and other “MSM” outlets treated Gore much worse than Bush.

    By Steeljaw.

Today’s contribution is from LCDR George J. Walsh, USN-Ret., an SB2C Helldiver pilot with significant time and experience in the Pacific campaign post-Midway. George has been on a campaign to place the proper emphasis on the part of the sentence that runs “the dive bombers at Midway were successful, but only because…” and we are in full agreement. The whole concept of dive-bombing and the attendant success the US Navy enjoyed at Midway and elsewhere in the Pacific has tended to be glossed over or assumed away as the fortunate happenstance of other external factors. Nothing could be further from the truth. To underscore this view, the following perspective is provided by LCDR Walsh. – SJS

You don’t have to attend remedial driving school if you park your car incorrectly but you certainly do if you are cited for careless driving, speeding, or failure to observe a traffic signal over a dozen times.
