Redirect Should Be Fixed

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:26 pm

Some people complained today about the page redirecting to some gardening site. The problem should be fixed. I think the culprit was the SiteMeter code, which I have removed. Thanks to happyfeet for that tip. Admin Guy is running some updates and whatnot as well. Let me know if things seem better.

  2. Ooooooooooh, here I am running a rootkit search for a browser hijacker.

Interestingly, the website itself has been disabled. Comes up 503.

  4. I have had both 503 and garden notices come up.

  5. Should be fixed now, Gazzer. Lemme know if you are experiencing problems now.

Also, has anyone else had the “vindicosuite” business show up at the bottom of their screen in recent weeks?

  6. I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue, so I’m making some blind fixes. If it’s still happening and someone can tell me what I’m not doing wrong :), I’d be glad to hear it.

  7. I had vindicosuite show up late last night when redirect occurred, and again tonight before the fix. However, it now appears to be fixed.

  8. Earlier it would re-direct as soon as I opened another window as I left the page. I cannot make it happen anymore, so I am hoping it is fixed. And Thanks.

  9. Vindicosuite has been an off and on presence on my machine for weeks. I think I may have to bid farewell to SiteMeter for good. Sigh.

  10. I’ve done some digging and it looks like SiteMeter is likely the cause of both the Vindicosuite and gogardenclub issues. Hopefully this is put to bed for now.

  11. Legal Insurrection has a Vindicosuite redirect thing too. I’m not sure what it is, although IIRC, SiteMeter has long been a source of malware.

  12. Vindicosuite belongs to Sitemeter, and it is the sitemeter traffic bug which is the villain here, doing that redirect.

  13. Things seem OK now. No more redirect and the site seems to be loading faster, too. Thanks.

  14. Dang it. I like gardens.

  15. You can still visit the site. I like gardens, too. Lord knows I shoveled enough manure into them.

  18. As Artie Johnson used to say on Laugh-in, “very interesting.” I never experienced the redirect. Although I tried. I have no idea why My PC would have been immune. I actually thought it was a head fake.

  19. Just a thought. Who here has a hardware firewall with SPI? I’ll venture a guess and say just admin and I and anyone else who did not experience the redirect. I know, I know nothing.

  20. Now, if whitehouse.gov would redirect to Chauncey Gardiner’s page.

felipe, so you thought it was Patterico’s version of “what color is this dress”?

  22. A very pithy way to put it. Yes.

  23. it was redirecting me and now it doesn’t appear to happen. it only happened when I click on a link I guess, but so far so good.

now if only national review’s corner blog would fix their issues…… opens to page and then goes blank on safari/mac
    really annoying
