Media Swoons Over Dear Leader (To Be)

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:38 pm

Today in North Korea, the national press followed around Dear Leader. The most important news outlet in the country wrote odes to his supposed common humanity, even though the world knows he lives a life of luxury that far exceeds that of the peons he pretends to bond with. The same state propaganda organ dwelled on the food he ate. Another state-dominated site praised his Great Skill at making videos. And when it looked like he might make an appearance, everyone ran like mad, like a herd of crazed sheep, just for the chance to spend a moment somewhat near the Dear Leader.

Scary and creepy, these places with a cult of personality. Sheesh.

Oh, wait. That wasn’t Kim Jong-un. That was Hillary Clinton.

NYT: Hillary Clinton, Just an Unrecognized Burrito Bowl Fan at Chipotle

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign is all about “everyday Americans,” she made clear in announcing it on Sunday.

On Monday, she showed how unassuming she herself could be.

NYT: Hillary Clinton’s Chipotle Order: Above Average

On Monday, Hillary Rodham Clinton ordered a burrito bowl at a Chipotle outside Toledo, Ohio.

. . . .

At the time of this writing, much about Mrs. Clinton’s order was still unknown. We do know that it was a chicken bowl (with guacamole, according to ABC News). Less known, but critical: Did she get rice and beans, which are free with the order? What about fajita vegetables, or more than one kind of salsa? Even more important, from a calorie perspective: Did she include cheese and sour cream?

(Yes, yes, it was “tongue in cheek.” It was still a full-length piece in the New York Times.)

Vox: Review: Hillary Clinton’s announcement video is surprisingly bold, fascinating filmmaking

Hillary Clinton’s video announcing her run for president in 2016 is a fascinating piece of filmmaking, and it does something I haven’t seen a political campaign ad do in quite this way. . . . [I]t could change how these sorts of announcements are approached for the foreseeable future.

Journalists run — literally run — towards the rather luxurious-looking “Scooby Van”:

Benny Hill Vine version (make sure to turn on the sound for the Yakety Sax).

Hillary’s campaign manager explains the strategy, courtesy of Steven Crowder:

MIDDLE CLASS!!!!!

P.S. Have you seen Chelsea’s $10.5 million apartment? It’s across the street from hubby’s $4 million “starter pad.”

She’s just like you and me!!!!

  1. And Dear Leader is so attractive!

  2. Ah, but from the standpoint of a citizen journalist and “everyday Iowan”, the event was not so impressive, and she got a hoot out of the uh, real journalists and some of the real Iowans who came out to greet Hillary with signs. This is a very funny post that she titled:

I Am An ‘Everyday Iowan’ And Here Is How Close I Got To Hillary Clinton Today.

  3. I liked that post and thought about including it, but it didn’t quite fit the theme.

    Good post, though.

  4. if SecretService is not around, I doubt if I would recognize H.C in person.

to be fair to NYTimes , though they are not, i’m pretty sure the 2nd story was mocking the 1st story and its ilk.

  5. What goes around, comes around — per below — in terms of both shoddy journalism and liberal ideologues.

However, a well-known pundit of the early 20th century, H.L. Mencken — characterized as a libertarian who leaned right — probably would never have guessed just how debased and decadent the US would be in the 21st century.

Obama is a far more trashy, nightmarish version of the power-hungry liberal, Franklin Roosevelt, who Mencken had to content with in the 1930s. Even more so since Obama needs to be placed in the context of a US already tilted much further to the left than when Mencken was alive and well. Similarly, Bill and Hillary are like a much more venal, corrupt, perverse version of Franklin and Eleanor (although the latter was reportedly a bisexual-lesbian as Hillary is).

“The republic proceeds towards hell at a rapidly accelerating tempo. With the debt burden already crushing everyone, Roosevelt now proposes to relieve us by spending five or six billions more. I am advocating making him king in order that we may behead him.”– H.L. Mencken, 1933

quotecounterquote.com: “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.” A famous quip commonly attributed to journalist and editor H.L. Mencken (1880-1956)

Although these words are often credited to Mencken, they are actually a paraphrase of something he wrote in his column in the September 19, 1926 edition of the Chicago Daily Tribune. In it, he remarked on the recent upsurge in tabloid newspapers geared toward uneducated readers, including “near-illiterates.” Mencken correctly predicted that journalism of the future would “move in the direction” of the tabloids. He noted, with his usual dry sense of humor:

“No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”

^ I’d disagree with a putdown of the intelligence of “plain people” based merely on what they’re reading or not reading, as much as their sheeple-like mentality and blindness and stupidity towards the true nature of liberalism and most politicians of the left. However, if “nor has anyone ever lost office” is a criticism of the imbecilic nature of I-love-Hillary type of thinking and voting, then such a quip rings truer today than ever before.

  6. @Mark,

Are you advocating crowning Shrillary Queen, and then making her a head shorter? Tempting…..

  7. I’d say this roll-out is going about as well as her book tour. Nobody was buying that, either.

By the way, how much in the way of an advance did the champion of “ordinary every-day Americans” get for that, again?

    73. …She writes about everyday Americans like Diane Fossey talking about Gorillas in the Mist.

I wonder how many of these everyday Americans are really campaign workers, like all the plants Obama peppers his events with. Any day now they’re going to start fainting from the sheer emotional impact of attending a Hillary! campaign function.

Campaign staff DROVE ‘ordinary’ Iowans to Hillary’s first campaign stop – including health care ‘lobbyist in training’ who was an Obama campaign intern and Biden chauffeur

Austin Bird sat for coffee on Tuesday morning in the town of LeClaire, Iowa, chatting with Hillary Clinton as photographers snapped pictures

News reports called him a ‘student’ and her campaign called it an unscripted event

But Clinton’s Iowa political director Troy Price drove Bird and two other people to the coffee house

Bird is a hospital government relations official who interned with Barack Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign

The Iowa Democratic Party, which Price ran until a month ago, tasked him to be Joe Biden’s driver during an October Senate campaign trip in Davenport

They are all plants. Some long term Democratic activists.

Heh, if you say so yourself.
