Marco Rubio Is In

Stealing a bit of *Hillary’s thunder, Marco Rubio officially launched his campaign today.

Excerpts from his speech:

My parents achieved what came to be known as the American Dream. But now, too many Americans are starting to doubt whether achieving that dream is still possible:

Hard working families living paycheck to paycheck, one unexpected expense away from disaster…

Young Americans, unable to start a career, a business or a family, because they owe thousands in student loans for degrees that did not lead to jobs…

And small business owners, left to struggle under the weight of more taxes, more regulations and more government.

Why is this happening in a country that for over two centuries has been defined by equality of opportunity?

Because while our people and economy are pushing the boundaries of the 21st century, too many of our leaders and their ideas are stuck in the twentieth century.

They are busy looking backward, so they do not see how jobs and prosperity today depend on our ability to compete in a global economy. So our leaders put us at a disadvantage by taxing, borrowing and regulating like it’s 1999.

They look for solutions in yesterday, so they don’t see that good-paying modern jobs require different skills and more education than the past. They blindly support an outdated higher education system that is too expensive and inaccessible to those who need it most.

And they have forgotten that when America fails to lead, global chaos inevitably follows, so they appease our enemies, betray our allies and weaken our military.

Now, the time has come for our generation to lead the way toward a new American Century.

If we reform our tax code, reduce regulations, control spending, modernize our immigration laws and repeal and replace ObamaCare, the American people will create millions of better-paying modern jobs.

If we create a 21st century system of higher education that provides working Americans the chance to acquire the skills they need, that no longer graduates students with mountains of debt and degrees that do not lead to jobs, and that graduates more students from high school ready to work, then our people will be prepared to seize their opportunities in the new economy.

If we remember that family – not government – is the most important institution in society, that all life deserves protection, and that all parents deserve to choose the education that’s right for their children, then we will have a strong people and a strong nation.

And if America accepts the mantle of global leadership, by abandoning this administration’s dangerous concessions to Iran, and its hostility to Israel; by reversing the hollowing out of our military; by giving our men and women in uniform the resources, care and gratitude they deserve; by no longer being passive in the face of Chinese and Russian aggression; and by ending the near total disregard for the erosion of democracy and human rights around the world; then our nation will be safer, the world more stable, and our people more prosperous.

*Poor Hillary, even in her ubiquitous pantsuit, no one recognized her when she stopped in at a Chipotle for lunch on her campaign’s first day of travel in the “Scooby” van.

  1. Hello.

  2. Would love to see the immigration laws “modernized”.Better idea-go old school like Ike and throw out millions of illegals. If we don’t do something dramatic soon, not much else will matter. If the GOP nominee doesn’t do something like that, they are no better than Hillary! or Fauxachontas.

  3. holy moly what a load

marco sleazio’s vapid lil speech is pretty much as backwards-looking as it gets short of digging up poor addled Ronald Reagan and asking us all to help him win one for the “gipper”

  4. Senator Rubio is yet another good candidate for the GOP, but, as is the case with the other announced candidates, Senators Cruz and Senator Paul, has little executive experience beyond running his own office. It’s not a good thing when the only announced Democratic candidate, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D-Hell), has more executive experience than her opponents, even though it’s clearly failed experience. I want to see a Governor run! I want to see someone who has actually balanced a budget tell us how he’s going to balance the federal budget.

  5. Mr. Dana please to tell me more about this Governor idea

I’m intrigued I’m not gonna lie

  6. Sadly, I think Mr. Senator Paul might be better to put his aspirations for higher office on hold until his dad dies and quits talking.

If Ron Paul weren’t Ron Paul, I’d assume this denunciation was just a stunt orchestrated by him and Rand to put some foreign-policy distance between them before the primaries. Are you a mainstream conservative worried that President Rand would be too much like Ron in office? Well, here you go. Let your conscience be eased. The nation’s most famous isolationist thinks his boy’s a bit of a warmonger.

I’m almost sure she and Huma and the Scooby Doo are going to have to pass near in my direction to reach Iowa. I think ima stay out of fast food places for the next few days just to be on the safe side.

Eating your food is no time to recognize Hillary Clinton.

According to Michelle Obama, that’s racist.

  11. Many of you know how I feel about twitter. But this is absolutely hilarious and, yes, once again it involves Ezra Klein. Read all about his Rubio tweet that went bad. Very baaaad. .

  12. The fact that Hillary! is going on another listening tour of America which involves barging in to restaurants is another reason to rediscover the joy of cooking.

  13. Elissa – Ezra got busted. Bad. He didn’t have a bad autocorrect. Type stand in and see what choices you get.

    JD (7f7589)

  14. Close but no cigar for Ezra, JD?

    nk (dbc370)

  15. Let’s assume Ezra was telling the truth- “Here’s what Marco Rubio stands on taxes ….” is just plain awful writing, bad for even Vox.

    JD (7f7589)

  16. JD–Yes-Ezra got it handed to him and deservedly so. I’m starting to get the feeling that there are quite a lot of people in his “profession” who are not all that enamored with ‘lil Ezra. (Maybe you saw that Nate Silver just went after him also–and for a different reason.)

    elissa (d3f72b)

  17. As one noted, you cannot get tostada by typing in stostada. Try it.

    JD (7f7589)

  18. thanks, JD, that was terrible NK.

  19. It will be interesting to see whether the Clinton camp and the MSM (BRIM*) will continue to spin Bill’s peccadillos as “heroic, long-suffering woman stands by her man through thick and thin” or just airily wave “Dude, that was like 19 years ago”.

    *but I repeat myself

    nk (dbc370)

  20. For a reprise of ‘the great communicator’ as ‘the classic opponent’ against Hill, I’m surprised he doesn’t hold my attention.

Happy to have a sea anchor on the Boosh tho.
