The Omission of Jews: Glaring, Yet Not Surprising

Filed under: General — Dana @ 9:32 am

[guest post by Dana]

Freshman Congressman Lee Zeldin, who happens to be Jewish, observed a glaring omission from the president’s proposed Islamic State war authorization:

Bipartisan criticism of President Barack Obama’s proposed authorization of force against ISIS mostly has to do with the use of U.S. troops and limits on the commander-in-chief. But one Republican lawmaker noticed something else that he calls quite troubling – omission of the word “Jews.”

Freshman Lee Zeldin is the only Republican Jewish member of Congress, and says it immediately leapt off the page that the President’s proposed resolution specifically singles out several ethnic groups threatened by ISIS: Iraqi Christians, Yezidis and Turkmens, but says nothing about Jews.

“I see an understanding, a recognition in the resolution with regards to ISIS attacks on Muslims, on Christians and others, and I didn’t see a reference to Jews,” Zeldin told CNN in an interview. “And one of the efforts I’ve been involved in is trying to raise awareness for the rising tide of anti-semitism.”

The New York Republican questioned whether the White House deliberately left out Jews as an ethnic group that ISIS has threatened.

“I think that when the White House is drafting a resolution for the authorization of force, that every single word, every phrase in there is done deliberately — it has to be,” said Zeldin.

In defense:

But the White House argues that its war request draft language borrows from the resolution passed in the then-Democratic led Senate Foreign Relations Committee last year.

And it clearly does. However, that was written prior to the Jewish Kosher deli attacks that took place right after the Hebdo massacre. One would think that in the name of accuracy and public relations, the White House would immediately jump to edit and correct the text to include Jews on the list of targets. This especially given last week’s clumsy, childish efforts by the White House and State Dept. to clean up the messy, egregious misspeak made by the president when he claimed the attack at the kosher deli was simply “random”.

If the White House isn’t careful, the public might actually start to believe this administration is not really a friend to the Jewish people.

  2. But all the Jews in the ISIS-controlled areas are dead now, so it’s not an issue.

  4. Obama’s spiritual mentor, speaking about the Jews and the bad-Jew Zionists:

Wright stated in a June 10, 2009 interview that he had still voted for Obama for President, despite the controversy. He said that he had no regrets about any of his comments. He also alleged that “them Jews” within the Obama administration are preventing the two from speaking to each other. He also suggested that Obama did not send a delegation to the Durban Review Conference in Geneva because of Jewish pressure, saying: “[T]he Jewish vote, the A-I-P-A-C vote, that’s controlling him, that would not let him send representation to the Darfur Review Conference, that’s talking this craziness on this trip, cause they’re Zionists, they would not let him talk to someone who calls a spade what it is.”[96]

The Anti Defamation League released a statement condemning Wright’s remarks as “inflammatory and false. The notions of Jewish control of the White House in Reverend Wright’s statement express classic anti-Semitism in its most vile form.”[97] Rabbi Scott Gurdin at Temple Sinai said Wright “is missing an opportunity to build alliances and bridges.”[96] The National Jewish Democratic Council distributed a statement reading, “Obama showed good judgment in strongly separating himself from Reverend Jeremiah Wright”.[98]

Wright modified his statements the next day, saying that “I’m not talking about all Jews, all people of the Jewish faith, I’m talking about Zionists.” He also endorsed the anti-Zionist books Judaism Does Not Equal Israel by Marc Ellis and The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappe. He commented, “[e]thnic cleansing the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don’t want Barack talking like that”.[99] The Atlantic writer Jeffrey Goldberg remarked that “In other words… [h]e regrets speaking plainly instead of deploying a euphemism.”[100] On June 11, classical historian and columnist Victor Davis Hanson compared Wright’s ongoing criticisms of Obama to that of the Furies of Greek Mythology.[101]

Wright wrote on his Facebook page apologizing for his remarks on June 12. He wrote, “I mis-spoke and I sincerely meant no harm or ill-will to the American Jewish community or the Obama administration… I have great respect for the Jewish faith and the foundational (and central) part of our Judeo-Christian tradition.” He also stated, “I love President Obama as my son, and support and honor him as the President of the United States of America and leader of the free world.”[102] Reverend Amos Brown—a former San Francisco supervisor and pastor of the Third Baptist Church—has defended Wright and disputed charges of antisemitism. He said, “[p]eople hear snippets of things and they go running with it rather than sitting down and having a dialogue, the way Jesus engaged people”.[103]

  5. Imagine what these organizations would be saying if it was, say, Karl Rove or Rush Limbaugh talking this way.

  6. Yeah, the omission of the Jooooz is a real mystery given Obama’s go-to guy on race relations.

  7. Sherlock Holmes once commented on the something like the Obama administration and its attitude toward Jews.

Gregory (Scotland Yard detective): “Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?”
Holmes: “To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.”
Gregory: “The dog did nothing in the night-time.”
Holmes: “That was the curious incident.

  8. They left a long time ago, except maybe from Aleppo, and if ISIS ever got close, they left.. I don’t think Aleppo has been overrun anyway.

They did kill an American Jew, Steven Sotloff, although he didn’t really make it known to them he was Jewish, and had become an Israeli citizen also, at one time, to boot.

    http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Terrorism/ISISmedia.html

This web page chronicles the foreign hostages killed by ISIS, but, as of now, has not been updated to include Kayla Mueller.

Also, when ISIS was al Qaeda in Iraq, I think they killed one or two American Jews who had ventured into Iraq for adventure, supporting themsleves by some business, like fixing antennas. That was Nicholas Berg. They wanted Americans, but I think Jews were worth double or triple points.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/12/world/struggle-for-iraq-revenge-killing-iraq-tape-shows-decapitation-american.html

And of course Daniel Pearl, but that was Original al Qaeda ® ™ back when it wss all one organization. Khalid sheik Muhammed, one of the chief plotters of the September 11 2001
attacks, now in the middle of a very long protracted process of being put on trial – it seems like thay are going to wait for final victory before executing him – said he had done it himselg and the thinking is that that is the truth.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/20/AR2011012000057.html

Daniel Pearl too, was decapitated, although maybe not until after he was dead.

  9. Hello Dana.

I wonder what my Senator, Dianne Feinstein, thinks of this.

(Trick question: she’s so senile that it doesn’t even enter her orbit).

I wonder what Chuck Schumer thinks of this.

(Trick question: there’s no partisan advantage to be gained, so he doesn’t care.)

  10. Didn’t claim he was Jewish in his soul though?

    Dana (8e74ce)

  11. Well, they did kill little black baby Jesus. Them and them Eytalians, with their long garlicky noses. (Or is it just the Jews that have long noses and the Eytalians garlicky ones?)

  14. The much better-looking Dana wrote:

Barack Hussein Obama won 69% of the American Jewish vote in 2012, and if that seems like a huge percentage, it’s actually under the normal Jewish vote for Democratic presidential candidates. American Jews are learning that this Administration doesn’t give a damn about them — other, of course, than their money; the Democrats care a great deal about that! — but far too slowly. And since Mr Obama can’t run again himself, the Democratic nominee in 2016 will probably be right back to the 77% of the Jewish vote normally expected.

    The realistic Dana (f6a568)

  15. And since Mr Obama can’t run again himself, the Democratic nominee in 2016 will probably be right back to the 77% of the Jewish vote normally expected.

Hillary! or whomever emerges from that sewer will have to figure out how much of Obama’s minority and millennial vote the Dems can count on. If they feel that their vote totals are slipping there, look for them to pander more to the Jewish community and to gently repudiate Obama’s outreach to Iran and the other hotbeds of radical Islam. But if they think they can make up for the loss of minorities and millennials by expanding their vote totals among married white women, perhaps they can afford to continue to take the Jewish vote for granted.

  16. nk @10, as an Eyetalian I can assure you we have both long and garlicky noses plus greasy olive picker’s hair.

    Hope that helps.

  17. Kevin @2
For the most part, there are no Jews in the areas IS controls. They were chased out by their neighboring nonjihadi neighbors post 1948. To the best of my knowledge, the only Jew killed by IS was Mr. Sotloff. Even if you make the rhetorical stretch of ascribing Hyper Cacher and Hebdo to IS, that is 7 Jews, compared to thousands of Yazidis, Shi’ites, gays, secular Arabs, Christians,Muslim women, etc.
There is also the fact that by not mentioning Jews, it avoids setting off the Arab reflex of seeing Mossad in every US action.
This is straining at gnats. Just like Benghazi, in which the complaints centered not on why Americans were allowed to be killed but on whether or not Susan Rice had used the correct incantation in casting her spells. There are enough problems with Obama’s request… What is he actually planning to do?

  23. “But the White House argues that its war request draft language borrows from the resolution passed in the then-Democratic led Senate Foreign Relations Committee last year.”

So, obama is not the only anti semite democrat. The “Democratic led Senate Foreign Relations Committee” is too.

  31. Well, everyone probably knows that I am no fan of President Obama,
but I sort of agree with Kevin M. up at #2.
If the intent is to authorize action against the forces of Isis at work in the area of Iraq and Syria, I’m not aware of there being any significant Jewish presence there, where those mentioned are.
As to the activity of “Isis” factions operating elsewhere in the world, the current action does not directly effect any of that, correct?

I’m not really protesting the Congressman’s claim,
    just adding a side note.

  33. I continue to marvel at the fact that American Jews dependably show up at Obama White House functions at all, given the way he treats Israel and her leaders:
