Maybe that’s why he didn’t go to Paris. Because, meh. Might interfere with golf or watching the games on TV.
Patterico (9c670f) — 1/13/2015 @ 7:28 amMaybe he’s adverse to sharing the stage with people he doesn’t like? He’s not a team player.
AZ Bob (34bb80) — 1/13/2015 @ 7:53 amHe would have liked to have gone, but Air France’s flights to Paris from Dulles Airport were completely sold out–even in coach!
Skeptical Voter (12e67d) — 1/13/2015 @ 8:34 amI didn’t realize the depth of Obama’s laziness until this event, but I think that does explain much of what he does. It’s possible he’s so lazy and inept that he couldn’t even decide whether to send someone to Paris, let alone go himself.
But there is one exception to his laziness, ineptness and indecision and that’s when it comes to race. Anything to do with being black, especially, generates a clear response from Obam and I think that’s because it’s the one area of his life where he has a moral compass that guides him. Every other response has to be calibrated, weighed, parsed, and analyzed before Obama can decide — and it’s often too late to have any meaning, because he doesn’t have strong values that guide his decision-making.
DRJ (a83b8b) — 1/13/2015 @ 9:30 amI’m not sure the term “moral compass” is quite right.. “Clear Agenda” is probably more accurate.
rorschach256 (61bf43) — 1/13/2015 @ 10:06 amOr he is loyal to his base.
AZ Bob (7d2a2c) — 1/13/2015 @ 10:06 amNever, never, never forget about Valerie.
elissa (e73263) — 1/13/2015 @ 10:14 amI just spent a week in Hawaii and had to constantly remind myself that we were on “island time” and not in a big bustling city. Relax, brah. Sit on the beach.
carlitos (c24ed5) — 1/13/2015 @ 12:16 pmThose 18 holes aren’t going to play themselves.
Reggie Love, manly man. LOOK-SQUIRREL! Sure-

Hollande only began planning this event on Friday, after the two hostage sieges ended. There must have been less than 42 hours involved. This was too short a turnaround time for Obama, especially, since this would not have sounded like it would be significant event (for non-French officials) till way into Saturday.
The Secret Service told CBS or somebody other news source that they were never asked to prepare a travel plan, either for Obama or anyone else.
Josh Earnest said he couldn’t answer the question of whether Obama had been invited.
The Administration claimed that Kerry couldn’t go there because he was tied up in India till Thursday. They later said one reason was his secretly planned visit to Peshawar site of where the school children were massacred. But that was set for today, Tuesday, more than enough time togo and come back. In the end Kerry didn’t go because of bad flying weather. He wll make a stopover in France on Friday, though.
No real good answer for why Holder didn’t show up, except that that probably wasn’t on his itinerary or maybe they hadn’t reviewed security.
No, sports on TV.
Not really. He triesd to stake out a middle position. what he has there is some political supporters, so he tries not to go against them, while avoiding doing something actually wrong, too.
He only doesn’t do that where he has political commitments – he doesn’t have to weigh things then, because his position is locked in cement.
Sammy Finkelman (be6791) — 1/13/2015 @ 1:04 pmSo he voted present without being present.
AZ Bob (7d2a2c) — 1/13/2015 @ 2:18 pmIs there any truth to teh rumor that Obama does a mean Perry Como impression?
Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 1/13/2015 @ 3:25 pmThere’s also an incompetence, an ineptness, a nonchalance, a void, a misplaced air-of-superiority, and a deep narcissistic streak in him.
Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 1/13/2015 @ 3:29 pmCol-I hear Johnny Mathis. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Bugg (f0dbc7) — 1/13/2015 @ 4:30 pmKind of like Marley’s chains, Robert Bly talks about the bag we drag behind us, where we’ve put all sorts of bits of our selves that we don’t want to acknowledge. (These creep out of the bag and cause things like Freudian slips; Jung calls this part of the personality “The Shadow”.) 0’s bag is so big, full, and long that he can’t move, he’s frozen in place.
