On Progressive’s Consistency in Defeat

Sure the GOP had the Contract with America , a detailed plan for what they wanted to accomplish if they took control of Congress, but no voters bothered to read it and everyone was just voting their frustrations with the Washington, DC culture, even if it was only incumbent Democrats who lost. The new Congress has no mandate.

Well, the GOP didn’t have any detailed plans of what they wanted to accomplish if they took control of Congress, so voters were really just voicing their frustration with the whole Washington, DC gridlock and demanding that all sides compromise,* even if it was mostly Democrats who were defeated. The new Congress has no mandate.

*Recall that in the world of progressive media, “compromise” means “your side adopts our side’s priorities.”

  1. A four second clip from Josey Wales seems apropos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4e8iAofnrw

  2. I agree this wave was much more Anti-Democrat than it was Pro-GOP.

  3. Really? The only link to the GOP Agenda is on Aljazeera?

  4. Really? The only link to the GOP Agenda is on Aljazeera?

Nope, not the only one, but the one that covered it very early in the article rather than in paragraph number 25. I hate it when people link to an article and you have to read through a lot of extraneous material to get to the point of the link.

All wave elections are anti-incumbency party. The 2008 election wasn’t really about Obama’s Hope & Change blather so much as it was a repudiation of the end of the Bush Presidency.

  7. Agreed JVW, I just see some GOP gloating…and I think they’re getting a little ahead of themselves.

  8. I could care less about gloating, or how Dems with byline scribblers interpret, but if I have to see one more GOP talking head let the “compromise”, “get things done for a change”, or “Republican obstructionism” pass without mention of the name Harry Reid, I’m gonna explode.

Pull your effin head out, Cory.

  9. Al Jazeera is anti-American at it’s core, but the good side of that is they don’t distinguish between D and R. They hate us all equally, and so they give a pretty jaundice view of the Progs which is strangely refreshing when compared to American media.

  10. I think the GOP has some items that could be bipartisan, like XL Pipeline. They might even have a veto-proof majority on that.

  11. Its politics to speak of compromise. Congress can’t impose its will on a President. Now, if the President chooses to continue down the same path he’s been on. I totally hope the GOP will go all in and shut everything down for the next 2 years if that is what it takes.

But only if it is necessary.

  12. Excellent post. Liberal hypocrisy never gets old.

I hear you, but I think the gloating (such that it is) is largely because even the media/academic complex has to consider the unthinkable idea that maybe the progressive agenda isn’t really all that popular. That has to be absolutely stunning to their worldview. Reading left-wing blogs and comments is rather enlightening: their attitude is that America is too dumb a country to deserve all the good things they are trying to do for us. That’s an attitude that will lead to a huge comeback in 2016 no doubt.

  15. I can’t get no voter action
I can’t get no voter action
‘Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
    I can’t get no, I can’t get no
When I’m sittin’ on my ass
And that man comes on his TV show
And he’s tellin’ me more and more
    About some disenchanted nation
    Supposed to fire my imagination
I can’t get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that’s what I say
I can’t get no voter action
I can’t get no voter action
‘Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
    I can’t get no, I can’t get no
    When I’m watchin’ my TV
And that man comes on to tell me
How bad this $hit will be
But he can’t be a man ’cause he did not vote
like the other dumb$hits for me
I can’t get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that’s what I say
I can’t get no voter action
I just get a gut reaction
Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
    I can’t get no, I can’t get me no
When I’m flyin’ round the world
And I’m blowin’ this and I’m signing that
And I’m tryin’ to be The Boss
they tell me Barky you been acting like a geek
Cause you see my suck is extra weak
I can’t get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, that’s what I say
    I can’t get no, I can’t get no
I can’t get no voter action
No voter action, no voter action, no voter action

  16. #13. I agree some of it is a reaction to media and some just to the moment itself. I just don’t want hardline GOPers to get a bighead about it because it isn’t as it seems.

I’ve been reading leftist sites too, you’re right, they do just think America is too dumb or stupid. They can’t self-evaluate, they can only blame others.

Sadly, I don’t think that attitude will ever go away.

Don’t put it past any of these guys to believe that they won because of their charm and boyish good looks and not because of anti-Obama sentiment. “My-shit-don’t-stink” narcissism is not the exclusive province of Muslim communist Kenyan mama’s boys.
