Feds Convene Grand Jury in George Zimmerman Case

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 4:09 pm

Cowards. Andrew Branca on Thursday:

The Orlando Sentinel newspaper today reported that the Department of Justice has assembled a Federal Grand jury to meet next week to hear testimony about whether George Zimmerman violated Trayvon Martin’s civil rights on the night that Zimmerman ultimately killed Martin in self-defense.

When you have a case you can’t ethically prosecute, you don’t submit it to a grand jury and hide behind their decision. You reject it. Period.

Like I said: cowards.

  1. They know the case against the cop in the Ferguson “gentle giant” narrative has gone completely to pot so they now need a replacement case (Trayvon) to keep the natives (of all colors) on the left restless–at least temporarily until a better case comes along can be manufactured.

  2. The department of Injustice screwed up. They needed to convene and issue indictment before the election.

  4. Spot on, elissa… I agree with your assessment.

I mostly agreed, elissa. But I just felt compelled to adjust it slightly.

  6. DOJ is violating its own policies for serial prosecutions. We’ve been all over this, in several posts here. Patterico is right to call them cowards. And scofflaws of their own rules. And why? Is there really a public outcry for Zimmerman’s scalp?

About forty years ago, Republicans in Cook County had this slogan: “Vote Republican. For a change.” The GOP should have used it in this election.

  7. They aren’t cowards. This is being done intentionally to inflame/rekindle passions among blacks and activists to turn out in the election.

It will quietly go away over the holidays.

  8. If anyone’s civil rights have been violated, George Zimmerman stands out as the one who was victimized, first by national media organizations who doctored video tape to deny his obvious injuries, falsified taped 911 conversations to portray Zimmerman as a racist, and are still actively engaged in an on-going criminal conspiracy to railroad an innocent man.

Furthermore, Florida Governor Rick Scott aided and abetted efforts to deny Zimmerman his rights. Elected and appointed officials in Sanford Florida were smeared in the media and subsequently maneuvered out of the way so Scott and his accomplice, Attorney General Pam Bondi (both currently up for re-election) could position additional members of the conspiracy to key positions.

Scott appointed designated executioner, Angela Corey and her team of assassins, Bernie de la Rionda, John Guy, and Richard Mantel to prosecute Zimmerman. They hid exculpatory evidence and presented tainted witnesses at trial, while the judge, Debra Nelson, was obvious in her unrelieved bias.

When the jury refused to succumb to the lynch mob’s orchestrated web of lies and deceptions and found Zimmerman innocent of the trumped-up charges it was left to Obama’s disgraced Attorney General, Eric Holder, and his so-called Department of Justice to manufacture some way to put the innocent scapegoat behind bars in order to satisfy the blood lust of racists, bigots, and ghouls.

  9. Why don’t they just wait a few more days for the Ferguson decision, release all the jihadis in Guantanamo to ISIS and then bundle the real criminals of this world, Wilson and Zimmerman, off to Guantanamo in their stead

I think this is really another sign that there may soon be an announcement in the Ferguson Missouri (Darren Wilson, Michael Brown) case.

    Two thoughts:

    1. In Missouri, the local prosecutor is not doing it that way, in order to avoid accusations of a cover-up. I don’t know if you woulds say that is wrong. Maybe politics, and public relations, sometimes should be taken into account. The Missouri prosecutor is not trying to get an indictment. A grand jury is maybe soemtimes a protection. In Florida, the substitute prosecutor had to bypass it.

    2. It seems like there won’t be any federal grand jury – maybe because there are some ethical employees in the Department of Justice who don’t want to do it, so maybe DOJ under Holder has decided to start a grand jury on the Zimmerman case as an alternative.

  11. Don’t forget who was president when the Rodney King cops were subjected to double jeopardy. I sent money to Stacey Koon’s family while he was in prison. He saved Rodney King’s life. Melanie Singer was going to shoot him until Koon and the LAPD arrived and took over. Then she testified against the cops and retired on stress disability.

    Nothing new for Democrats.

  12. Remember, this election will possibly not be over until the LA runoff in December, and possibly the GA runoff in January.
This is something to spike turn-out at those two run-offs.
