Harry Shearer has this satirical debate between John Kerry 1971 and John Kerry 2014 on the reasons to go to war. The clip contrasts actual audio clips of John Kerry from 2014 supporting our action in Iraq, vs. actual clips of John Kerry 1971 protesting Vietnam:
It’s humorous enough on its own, but I was struck by this passage, beginning at 5:07:
There is no negotiation with ISIL. There is nothing to negotiate. They’re not offering anyone health care of any kind. They’re not offering education of any kind. For a whole idea, or philosophy or cult, whatever you want to call it, that frankly comes out of the Stone Age.
He finally gets around to commplaining that ISIS is “cold-blooded kiddlers” (I think he means killers), but his first complaint is that . . . they aren’t offering anyone government health care or education.
Well, of course you can’t negotiate with anyone like that!

But the mere fact that they are “cold-blooded killers” is waaaay insufficient. We simply don’t have any sort of mandate to go around wiping out every cold-blooded killer on the planet.
There may be very good reasons for wanting to wipe out ISIS. If there are, I’d like to hear them, instead of all this hand-wringing.

One hears this silliness so much, one has to wonder: are our leaders really that stupid and pig-ignorant, or is this an agreed-upon diplomatic thing, so as not to poke in the eye certain valuable allies of ours whose religion it is? Maybe some or all of these ninnies secretly know the truth, but are required, pour des certaines raisons d’état, to pretend that they don’t?

Maybe he means to say they’re not acting like a government.
They do have jails, though. The first thing that ISIS/ISIL/Daesh/(the) Islamic State (militant group)/Whatchamicallit does it when it occupies new territory is establish a jail. Most people arrested are never heard from again.

Not that this distinguishes him much. But he’s also immoderately stupid; he didn’t foresee that running as a Veteran when he had publicly thrown away his medals and defamed his fellow vets would be a PR problem. Why the Democrats want anything to do with the silly bastard puzzles me.
