Are the Cartels Using the U.S Government to Deliver Their Footsoldiers Into the United States?

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:41 pm

The answer is “yes.” As bad as the situation at the Texas border seems, it’s worse than you think. Many of the “children” being given a free pass into the U.S. are gang members:

Border Patrol officials struggling to keep up with the increasing number of minors illegally crossing the Mexican border are not turning away persons with known gang affiliations. Chris Cabrera, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307 in the Rio Grande Valley, explained that a Border Patrol agent he represents helped reunite a teenage gang member with his family in the United States. Cabrera notes the young member of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a transnational criminal gang, had no criminal record in the U.S., but asks, “If he’s a confirmed gang member in his own country, why are we letting him in here?”

“I’ve heard people come in and say, ‘You’re going to let me go, just like you let my mother go, just like you let my sister go. You’re going to let me go as well, and the government’s going to take care of us,’” Cabrera says. “Until we start mandatory detentions, mandatory removals, I don’t think anything is going to change. As a matter of fact, I think it’s going to get worse.”

Art Del Cueto, president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 2544 in Tucson, says agents who recognize the gang-affiliated tattoos of minors crossing the border must treat them the same as anybody else. He says these people are afforded the same rights provided to anyone crossing the border.

May I ask why?

Having asked the question, I will provide the obvious answer: Obama is so invested in the idea of allowing illegals into the country that he really doesn’t care if any of them are gang members or even footsoldiers for the cartels. More illegals means a better chance for amnesty — and even if he doesn’t get that, all these people will one day have kids, who will be citizens, who will vote Democrat.

It’s all about the permanent Democrat majority.

TWO MORE POINTS ABOUT THE CARTELS:

ONE: Obama says people are fleeing cartel violence. But this report says that TV stations in Guatemala are broadcasting: “Go to America with your child, you won’t be turned away.” There is a video at the link showing a mother who followed that advice — and she ran into Zetas who threatened her while making the journey with her six-year-old child. She was not escaping cartel violence; she encountered cartel violence while chasing the promise of amnesty for her child — amnesty that she believed had been offered up by Obama.

TWO: I told you yesterday about a December 2013 order by a federal judge in Texas, who accused Obama’s Department of Homeland Security of completing conspiracies by the cartels to smuggle children across the border. The judge noted: “Time and again this court has been told by representatives of the government and the defense that cartels control the entire smuggling process.” The judge further noted that the government was completing human smuggling conspiracies, by taking children whom cartels were smuggling across the border, and delivering those children to their intended destination. “In each case, the DHS completed the criminal conspiracy, instead of enforcing the laws of the United States, by delivering the minors to the custody of the parent illegally living in the United States.” The judge noted that a private person would be prosecuted for doing what the government was regularly doing.

My point here is: the cartels know the U.S. Government is doing this. So if they can find willing 16- or 17-year-old footsoldiers — and they can — the cartels can deliver those footsoldiers across the border, with the assistance of the U.S. Government.

I have absolutely no doubt that this is happening. Drug cartels are using Obama’s policies to deliver footsoldiers into our country. It is against U.S. law and it is happening thanks to Obama. He does not belong in the office he occupies.

  8. Our Border Patrol agents are being pulled from their regular duties to handle the onslaught. Many of these people are turning themselves in because they know they’ll be allowed to stay and provided taxpayer funded benefits, but what of those who don’t want to be detected? With a wide open border, members of terrorist organizations are more likely able to sneak in undetected now, possibly with components they couldn’t easily obtain on the open market here.

Bad guys get the word, and it would be foolish not to expect them to exploit the situation.

I saw that claim as well, in a source that was very surprising. From what little I know (from seeing things through the PP California lens), if they learned their violence in the US it was by looking at the example and multiplying it.
Yes, the idea was put forward that Guatemalans were innocent victims of the CIA, managed to get to the US to try to find a better life, and, wow, got corrupted by US gangs.

Kinda doubt it. The Honduran government has a relatively good grasp on goings-ons in their country. I would say one of their proudest moments was to tell Preznit 404 to go pound sand. They were going to follow their constitution, Yanqui be damned.

An internal Border Patrol report, based on interviews on May 28 with 230 Central American migrants detained in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, said the main reason they cited for coming was they had heard rumors that the American authorities were giving, only until the end of June, a special entry “permit” to unaccompanied minors and women traveling with children.

now who spread these rumors? Note the June 30, 2014 deadline

activist Lisa Ling said MS-13 was never violent until they came to the US

This gets it a little bit wrong.

Theer were gangs in Los Angeles. They were a strictly U.s. phenomena.

Among the gang members were many people who had bene brought t the U,S,. as children.

Subsquently, some of these immigrants (legal too) were deported.

But they didn’t lose their knowledge of English, and their contacts within the United
States. Some came back, but to different parts of the United States, some had to stay in El Salvador and so on. They set up shop there and began smuggling drugs into the United States.

U.S. deportation pooicies created MS-13. They sent a large number of Los Angeles gang members to the same place.

Like, as soon as someone gets outside the borders of the United States they melt, like the wicked Witch of the West..

Art Deco says FDR was great and you can tell because he got re-elected.

    In a landslide.

Conditions were only getting worse during Herbert Hoover’s term, reaching a nadir just at Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s inauguration (it could be argued FDR let that happen by not agreeing to endorse anything when Herbert Hoover was a super lame duck) and, till 1936, they were only getting better since March 4, 1933, even with all the stupidities, and disposable income in 1936 was back at the level of 1929.

(Then in 1937, FDR made a mistake and agreed to tighten monetary and fiscal policy, and they invented the term recession, but again, in 1938, things were back at the level of 1929 and 1936.)

I’m sorry, I find it offensive to blame the violence of gangs and drug gangs outside of the US on the US.
There may be things (of course their are) that the US has done wrong and should make amends for as they can,
but blaming the US for a zillion problems the world has that they are responsible for themselves just obscures reality and any opportunities to deal with truth people may have.

I don’t know if our host, seeing his work experience, has any comment about gangs and whether MS-13 was birthed and nurtured at the agency of the US.

To me it is like saying, you know their are thieves and murders in the US, that’s where the rest of the world learned how to do it.

  41. MD, the US is responsible for all the ills of the world. Once you accept that premise, the conclusion of our nation’s evil is a given.
