Your Feelgood Story of the Day: Cretins Loot Groceries from Vehicle in Fatal Crash
The kicker: mom died in the crash, and the looters took the groceries while the kids were still in the car:
A Houston mother with her two young children in a vehicle was fatally wounded after being involved in a car crash Wednesday afternoon, but it’s what happened after that stunned onlookers.
Eyewitnesses told police that people were spotted stealing groceries out of the front seat of the dead woman’s Toyota 4-Runner, KTRK-TV reported.
“You see the person dead. How do you feel taking the person’s groceries?” onlooker Sheila Katoo told the local ABC affiliate.
Some thefts are worse than others. The people who committed this particular theft are animals; depraved people who have no place in society.
Denounced. Denounced and condemned.
JD (16574b) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:24 pmCheck out the 1:23 mark in the video, the crowd scene of onlookers. Are a couple of them taking pictures with their cellphone cameras? That’s nowhere near as bad as looting groceries, but come on. Are we really that crass of a society? I hate to think these photos end up on social media with “LOLs” or some stupid hashtags. Sometimes I think there is no hope for our future.
JVW (feb406) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:25 pmPerhaps my initial response was an overreaction. Maybe the deceased mom and her injured children had already been evacuated from the scene, and the onlookers didn’t know the extent of anyone’s injuries. To them, it was just an ugly wreck with an SUV practically embedded into a tree. Still, taking photos of that for what I assume would be personal use seems twisted.
JVW (feb406) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:28 pmLet’s not be too hard on the looters. Are we sure that they were actually after the groceries or just looking to move them out of the way to get at her purse, cell phone, watch, and jewelry?
nk (dbc370) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:29 pmSome enterprising DA needs to get his/her hands on all those videos and start ID ‘ing people.
askeptic (8ecc78) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:39 pmthis is what happens when you republicans do your cutbacks on the food stamp allotments of otherwise-somewhat-kinda-decent americans
you were warned about this but did you listen NO you did not
now you have to live in the world you created
i will pray for you
happyfeet (8ce051) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:47 pmWell it’s dangerous in this ol’ burg
Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 6/6/2014 @ 5:58 pmthey’ll steal yer groceries, ain’tcha heard
I had a face until the crash
and they even stole my cash
ain’t goin’ back to Houston, Houston, Houston
Tip of the iceberg. Get used to this sort of thing. As we continue our descent these scenes will become commonplace. Then just wait until inflation in food and fuel truly kick in. Within three decades and perhaps a lot sooner we’ll be Zimbabwe. Policies have grave consequences. So too do voting and not voting.
Lawrence Westlake (4fc30a) — 6/6/2014 @ 6:10 pmWestlake is a freakin’ broken record.
JD (16574b) — 6/6/2014 @ 6:14 pm9. “Three decades”.
gary gulrud (46ca75) — 6/6/2014 @ 6:18 pmok fine whoever is harboring the looters we will trade you five terrorists for each one you surrender
happyfeet (8ce051) — 6/6/2014 @ 6:24 pmObama voters
Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 6/6/2014 @ 6:32 pmthey do the craziest things
they’ll make yer skin crawl
Has anyone noticed that theft is the new non-crime crime?
If you go to a banquet where the help is a bunch of temps, someone will get their camera stolen. If you’re a college kid in the library, if you leave your stuff at the table, someone will steal your purse. I left my credit card at a store and realized it 20 minutes later. The cops and credit card company and store said “oh well” to the obvious fact that the cashier stole it and charged $500 worth of crap in 15 minutes.
Patricia (be0117) — 6/6/2014 @ 7:26 pmPerhaps they were just being very frugal and did not want the milk to spoil and be wasted.
elissa (15863e) — 6/6/2014 @ 7:54 pmit’s already the 6th
who has any food stamps left on the 6th?
hardly nobody that’s who
this is a cry for help
I hear you foodstampers I hear you
hungry children is a mother’s dilemma
dumpster diving to feed her baby emma
so you walk on by like it doesn’t affect you
the held out hand that you pay no respect to
well I respect you, foodstampers
LEAN ON ME WHEN YOU NOT STROOOONNG AN I BE UR FRIEND
happyfeet (8ce051) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:11 pmThey don’t, happyfeet. A lot of food stamp kids the only meals they get are the school breakfast and lunch. No dinner, no snacks, except what they can beg or steal. Now, that the reason is that the food stamps, the welfare, and the trick money go to buy drugs for momma and her boyfriend is a different story.
nk (dbc370) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:19 pmthe answer, Mr. nk, clearly, is mo food stamps
happyfeet (8ce051) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:21 pmCareful there, feets. You appear to be very very close to showing compassion for
elissa (15863e) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:21 pmcompassion’s sake and you know what will happen, next.
elissa in all honestly we have to contemplate the tipping point
when the fascist depravities tip the vast bulk of this sad little country into penury and dependence
when that point comes we all need to be somewheres where we love our neighbors enough to give til it hurts
I’m going to have to move.
happyfeet (8ce051) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:24 pmI blame the hipsters and yuppies for driving up the price of drugs so poor people have to spend more than of their food stamps on them. Although, I’m told, heroin is the cheapest it’s ever been. I could say that’s our peace dividend from Afghanistan but you’d call me cynical.
nk (dbc370) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:31 pmheroin helps you get skinny
let’s move!
happyfeet (8ce051) — 6/6/2014 @ 8:36 pmNot all the “lawless tribal regions” are located in Afganistan…
@13- I agree, Patricia, except for the “new” part. I can attest to residential burglary being “legalized” 40 years ago through the neglect of “the system” in many of our urban settlements.
Gramps, the original (c15c43) — 6/6/2014 @ 9:00 pmJust to insert a dose of reality into the conversation:
Houston is run by Democrats!
