Friday News Dump

Lying liar Carney resigns.

Shinseki resigns.

Obama tells us that “This is my administration, I always take responsibility”. He then proceeds to blame old computers and tells us the problems pre-dated his administration.

It has been reported that Hillary has hired Tommy Dude Vietor to help her spin Benghazi. Recall he is the one that left open the possibility that he made changes to the talking points, and gave us the infamous “dude, that was like 2 years ago” nonsense.

    They did!

But the people covering this up doubled down his administration. It was when he was president that the officially desired waiting time was reduced form 30 days to 14 days.

By the way, does he want to blame some president(s) before Bush II?

  3. Both Vietor and Rhodes wanted to “correct the record” on September 14, 2012, so that people should no longer think the attack in Benghazi was preplanned, and now name for Clinton spin efforts, both at Benghazi hearings, and by Media Matters, is “correct the record”

  4. his administration is astoundingly incompetent in general, but particularly inept when it comes to micro-managing the healthcares of people, is what I’ve noticed

there’s just no dignity in it for anyone involved

  5. On Main St. they wouldn’t know Jay Carney from Art Carney. That topic only is of interest to the unfortunate demographics of the chattering classes.

Shinseki resigning is a no brainer from the Democrat standpoint. Now he’s the fall guy. That will allow the media/Democrat machine to distract Zombieland from the real underlying issue: that government-run healthcare is a disaster that literally kills people.

Obama as POTUS is analogous to a college brat OWS waste case being placed in charge of a mega-cap multinational. Abject failure is and always was the only result possible.

Don’t underestimate Hillary. She can win with room to spare even with as little as 42% overall white vote. Meanwhile whomever the GOP ultimately nominates will have been damaged perhaps beyond repair by what promises to be a disastrous primary cycle fueled by the horrible demographics of the GOP’s erstwhile “base.” It’s not inconceivable that we wind up with a Clinton/Kaine or Clinton/Emanuel ticket vs. some political abomination along the lines of Paul/Cruz or Santorum/DeMint. A Goldwater-style wipeout is well within the realm of likelihoods.

  6. Maybe Obama will appoint General Incompetence to over see the VA overhaul.

I mean, it IS the model for single payer healthcare.

  7. If T.Dude Vietor is the best that Pant Dress G’ma can come up with, the media has some work to do covering his incompetence.

  8. Team R just doesn’t have a very attractive bench

I’m kinda left with trying to talk myself into Scott Walker after civil rights activist Rand Paul got all flaky and weird about voter id to where he’s just too high-concept for me now

but I don’t know if I can hang in there that long

if Team R thinks I’m gonna attentively endure a Perry Santorum Huckabee fetus-loving gay-bashing freak show with bonus dollops of noted child molester Peter King and smarmy smarmy Rubio, el Cubano mas authentico, well, I’m not

Puh and also Leeze is all I have to say about that

  9. Westlake – Cruz/Paul is worlds better than Bush/Christie or whatever Dem-lite nonsense you will be advocating for.

Maybe Obama will appoint General Incompetence to over see the VA overhaul.

He is in no hurry to appoint anybody. His deputy is taking over. This means actually the reform will slow down as Shinseki seems to have a bit disturbed at having been lied to, and he fired several people.

In the meantime the adminsitration seems to be oppposed to something that would let civil
servants in the VA be removed more easily. Not that it shold be easy, because everybody did it.

I think what might be called the old boy’s gang won with Shinseki’s resignation.

Obama says Shinseki concluded and he reluctantly had to agree that Shinseki would be a “dstraction” to efforts to reform the VA.

    Sammy Finkelman (b66da2)

  13. Anyone who has a clue should know that this preceded Obama. (I qualify that statement because of Krugman.)
The VA has had a bad reputation for decades.
The only thing about the VA in particular that could be considered scandalous for the administration is that they were among those who had a clue, and they promised to change it, and…nothing happened.
BUT…Anyone who knows that the VA can’t competently deliver medical care in a timely manner had better deal with that BEFORE they ever meddle with the private medical system.

(Of course, this makes LaRouche and the other single-payer folks obviously clueless.)

    Ibidem (3ede5e)

  14. 12. Shinseki wasn’t going to fix the problem. He took the job with the job of fixing this exact problem and by many accounts it only got worse. There was no reason he should have been blindsided by the reports. Perhaps a competent administrator would take surveys of the VA’s actual patients instead of relying on the bureaucracy to do it.

But at any rate, I don’t think they’ll be able to fix the problem anyways because they’ll never blame the system.

  15. and lets not forget some of today’s great economic news!

PS: thanks to admin guy for fixing the link function in FF! 😎

  16. red, you would think for a more complete look at gasoline consumption, we would look towards fuel tax receipts – which could be cross-checked with State collections of the fuel tax.

  19. Obama tells us that “This is my administration, I always take responsibility”. He then proceeds to blame old computers and tells us the problems pre-dated his administration.

Yes, we know these problems predated his administration. And how do we know this, boys and girls? Because he promised to fix this exact problem back in 2007 when he first started running for Preezy.

    Steve57 (61329d)

  20. well, you’d have to allow for raises in tax rates to do the math, and, given the mandated push for moar efficient vehicles, a significant drop in usage is to be expected.

however, given that the local gas stations want ~$4.50/gallon here, i’m thinking not many folks are going for joy rides. here in #Failifornia, the state fuel tax is $0.36/ gallon, twice what the feds collect, and then, after they add those taxes to the pump price, they tack on the sales tax, which in my part of Lost Angels, is 9.5%, but they want to raise that as well.

so. while you can’t blame the economy for all the drop, some of it is due to the booming economy of Recovery Summer 2014.

    redc1c4 (abd49e)

  21. Because he promised to fix this exact problem back in 2007 when he first started running for Preezy.

attempting to blame Bam-Bam for not doing something he promised is racist.

he’d have fixed everything by now, except you H8rs hate him for being black and prevent him from making things better, because you want him to fail.

  22. Related to nothing really, but three weeks ago I was driving through southeast Oklahoma on the road between Dallas and Tulsa. I passed a farm. Out front, next to the highway were three large, round hay bales with a hand-painted sign leaning against them. It said: “The VA Sucks.”

I guess the farmer was correct.

  26. The Other McCain’s take

…The only things that will change the VA are an aggressive expansion of the program to take Medicare-eligible vets out of the VA system and hand them off to civilian healthcare providers, and giving the new Secretary the power to utterly purge the Veterans Health Administration of everyone connected with the current scheduling debacle.

Both of these will be fought tooth and nail by the existing bureaucrats and their union, along with the Democrats in Congress who are their allies – and the Establishment RINOs who just want to go along to get along.

Of the two, I think the former is more likely, since it doesn’t do much to imperil the bureaucracy in the short term and is the simplest way for the current Administration to look like it’s “doing something for veterans”.

Ideally, we’d terminate the Veterans Health Administration with extreme prejudice** and give veterans who can’t afford medical care Tricare without co-pays, but in that world we wouldn’t have the Departments of Education, Energy, Homeland Security and other exrescences either.

Small steps. Reduce the load on the existing system now, and make reform of the VHA the opening wedge for destroying the civil service – or at least ridding the Federal government of its employee unions. One thing’s for sure, changing the man at the top won’t make any more difference to the Department of Veterans Affairs than changing the figurehead on a sailing ship made to the way it handled.

**There are other parts of the VA that aren’t nearly so screwed up.

You can choose like others to toss the whole as not worth your time.

  28. Between the finalizing of the agreement to release Bergdahl and the actual release, Obama arranged for Shinseki to be thrown into the briar patch.

It was a real Friday news dump, but still got some attention.

gary – I would use my education to choose not to link an obviously pure crap story claiming gasoline consumption has declined by 75% in this country on this site that is not from the Onion, but that’s just me. YMMV.
