I am getting ready to walk down Magnolia Lane, into the hallowed grounds of Augusta National. We got tickets for the practice round, par-3 tournament, and opening round of The Masters.

Bucket list. Check.

  4. JD- What are the greens stimping at?

  5. 3. I don’t get on the course much anymore, and money is a significant contributor, even tho I finish the round with the ball with which I started.

I’ve put the ball within 6 inches with a four or five iron too many times to count, but never, not once, with a sand wedge.

Playing Augusta would scare me to death.

  6. The closest I have ever come to Augusta National is in college I tutored a young lady who sold sandwiches at a snack stand on the course. I guess that isn’t very close at all.

Have a great time, JD. I’m taking Snead or Hogan to win it all this year.

  7. Greetings:

Excuse me, but isn’t the settled scientific consensus that golf “is a good walk spoiled” ???

  11. My dad and his identical twin are both retired green superintendents. They went a few years ago and had a super time.
    {They get in for nothing}
    Enjoy JD.

  12. @#3 redc1c4:

Being a “patron” at Augusta is very low cost, as long as you’ve been on the waiting list for the decades needed to get your cheap annual tickets. The aforementioned pimento cheese sandwiches sell for something like $1.50.

The members combined have more money that God plus the sweet annual TV contract, so they don’t squeeze the patrons.

  13. Golf is just like elections.
    Lowest score wins !
    Or something.

  14. No cameras allowed!

They’ll beat you like you’re a Hawaiian tourist that wandered into the wrong place.

Well, not really but they will eject you.

They have a really ugly galvanized chain link fence that exists solely to keep deer out.

  15. They also heat the greens with pipes full of hot water.
    No decadence at all.

  16. Jason Day.

He’s due to win a major.

  17. ” the settled scientific consensus that golf “is a good walk spoiled” ???”

That was Mark Twain, no expert. I’ve been playing nearly 70 years but had to give it up with no Augusta experience. What I really would love is St Andrews where many friends have played.
