Arrest Global Warming Deniers

Filed under: General — JD @ 9:48 pm

[guest post by JD]

Actually, the title should have been Arrest Climate Change Deniers. But I refuse to use their new construct, as they morphed to climate change from global warming. Ironically, the same “solutions” to climate change/global warming were bandied about to solve global cooling.

I thought it was an interesting tie-in to the Mozilla discussion, as we now see what the left is willing to do to enforce Teh Narrative.

  2. They are so confident of there ideas they just want robust deba…

Oh, yeah, forgot who we’re dealing with. We’ve seen them before.

I consider them to be the equivalent of the Lysenkoists in the Soviet Union. Lysenko was full of crap as an agronomist. But Stalin like him, so for something like 8 years that was all that was allowed to be taught in the way of biology.

And of course the “deniers” really were arrested. And often didn’t survive the gulag.

Our Soviet left is so tolerant and inclusive there’s just no place in society for us.

    It’s Global Cooling/Global Warming/Climate Change/Global Climate Disruption/Climate Collapse.

  5. There is nothing either shocking or surprising about the Left wanting dissenters arrested.

The next step is “reeducation,” and if that fails, imprisonment or ultimately execution.

It’s how the Left operates. It’s how they have always operated when they had the power to do so.

Now, with Obama practically ruling by decree, they feel close to having that power.

  8. The American Physical Society (APS) has signalled a dramatic turnabout in its position on “climate change” by appointing three notorious climate skeptics to its panel on public affairs (POPA).

Boom! That’s gotta the members of the Church of Man-Caused Hot/Cold/Wet/Dry/Night will be Darker/Day will be Brighter/Or the Other Way Around.

    They are:

Professor Richard Lindzen, formerly Alfred P Sloan Professor of Meteorology at Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a highly regarded physicist who once described climate change alarmism on The Larry King Show as “mainly just like little kids locking themselves in dark closets to see how much they can scare each other and themselves.”

John Christy, Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, who has written: “I’m sure the majority (but not all) of my IPCC colleagues cringe when I say this, but I see neither the developing catastrophe nor the smoking gun proving that human activity is to blame for most of the warming we see.”

Judith Curry, Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech, a former Warmist (and still a self-described “luke warmer”) who has infuriated many of her more extremist colleagues by defending skeptics and by testifying to the US House Subcommittee on the Environment that the uncertainties in forecasting climate science are much greater than the alarmists will admit.

As Anthony Watts has noted, this is news guaranteed to make a Warmist’s head explode.

  9. Leading Scientist Removes His Name from ‘silly’ and ‘apocalyptic’ Climate Change Document

Bam! Man caused Global Lysenkoism, hardest hit.

An author of the forthcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on climate change has asked for his name to be removed from a summary document because of its “four horsemen of the apocalypse” rhetoric.

Professor Richard Tol, an economist at the University of Sussex who was the convening lead author of the chapter on economics, asked for his name to be removed from a summary document provided to policy makers.

He said: “The message in the first draft was that through adaptation and clever development these were manageable risks, but it did require we get our act together. This has completely disappeared from the draft now, which is all about the impacts of climate change and the four horsemen of the apocalypse. This is a missed opportunity.”

“You have a very silly statement in the draft summary that says that people who live in war-torn countries are more vulnerable to climate change, which is undoubtedly true, but if you ask people in Syria whether they are more concerned with chemical weapons or climate change, I think they would pick chemical weapons – that is just silliness.”

Marriage equality! Why are you against equality? Who could be against equality! Ok but we don’t really like those marriage laws, they seem to be designed for some alien purpose having nothing to do with us. Lets adapt all the marriage law to conform to what is nicer for ALL couples/groups of any sort.

  14. “Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present

and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite.”

  17. 2. Walter Williams:

The 20th century turned out to be mankind’s most barbaric. Roughly 50 million to 60 million people died in international and civil wars. As tragic as that number is, it pales in comparison with the number of people who were killed at the hands of their own government. Recently deceased Rudolph J. Rummel, professor of political science at the University of Hawaii and author of “Death by Government,” estimated that since the beginning of the 20th century, governments have killed 170 million of their own citizens. Top government killers were the Soviet Union, which, between 1917 and 1987, killed 62 million of its own citizens, and the People’s Republic of China, which, between 1949 and 1987, was responsible for the deaths of 35 million to 40 million of its citizens. In a distant third place were the Nazis, who murdered about 16 million Jews, Slavs, Serbs, Czechs, Poles, Ukrainians and others deemed misfits, such as homosexuals and the mentally ill.

Pol Pot, Biafra, Rwanda, the list goes on.

Very true. Nor does it work by consensus. I forget the context, but Einstein said something about his theory of relativity that’s relevant on the latter score. How many scientists would it take to prove him wrong?

He said had he been wrong, all it would have taken is one.

  26. As Ann Coulter pointed out in one of her books, liberals may not believe in God, per se, but they have their own religions: abortion, climate change, homosexuality, etc.

And, as we are reminded every day, liberals practice their faith(s) with a fanaticism that manifests itself with a desire to burn any and all heretics at the stake.

One can only wonder if these figurative flames will ever turn into literal ones.

  29. “A 1% reduction in world-wide meat intake has the same benefit as a three trillion-dollar investment in solar energy.” ~ Chris Mentzel, CEO of Clean Energy

“As environmental science has advanced, it has become apparent that the human appetite for animal flesh is a driving force behind virtually every major category of environmental damage now threatening the human future: deforestation, erosion, fresh water scarcity, air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, social injustice, the destabilization of communities, and the spread of disease.” Worldwatch Institute, “Is Meat Sustainable?”

“The livestock sector emerges as one of the top contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. The findings of this report suggest that it should be a major policy focus when dealing with problems of land degradation, climate change and air pollution, water shortage and water pollution, and loss of biodiversity. The impact is so significant that it needs to be addressed with urgency.” UN Food and Agricultural Organization’s report “Livestock’s Long Shadow”
