L.A. Times’s Scott Martelle Tacitly Accepts Deportation of All Illegal Immigrants

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:27 am

In a recent piece on immigration, Scott Martelle of the L.A. Times tacitly accepts the argument that all illegal immigrants should be deported. The piece begins:

Sometime over the past couple of weeks, officials for the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement division revised guidelines for how agents are to conduct themselves in and around courthouses.

The change came on the heels of complaints by the American Civil Liberties Union, the Southern Poverty Law Center and immigrant rights groups that agents were targeting undocumented immigrants as they tended to unrelated court business. Unfortunately, ICE says that “due to law enforcement sensitivities, the specific details of that guidance are not being released.”

Although the piece addresses issues surrounding immigration, it does not reject the notion that all illegal immigrants should be deported. And as we all know, according to Scott Martelle, “to not reject is tacit acceptance.”

This post is the first in a series on surprising positions tacitly accepted by Scott Martelle.

  3. While I recognize there may be a hair to split here, it doesn’t strike me as a misrepresentation of Martelle’s beliefs. If Martelle has a problem with it, there is always this comment section, so his alternate view can be represented.

  4. Has Scott specifically rejected the notion that he’s a Maroon?

  5. Mr. Martelle tacitly accepts that Patterico should be granted powers of senior editor of the LATimes,
that he be paid handsomely for it (very handsomely),
and that he shares the wealth with those who comment on his posts,
in the form of gold or silver.
Oh, and that the LATimes is purchased by the Koch brothers, and the deal includes those nasty tapes of that dinner that president Obama attended years ago in honor of a Muslim terrorist.
    That is all (for now).

  6. I share Mr. Martelle’s distaste for illegal immigrants, and I also consider it unfortunate that ICE has not revealed its guidelines for arresting them so citizens and law-abiding residents can assist in the effort by reporting the ones they know to the authorities.

  7. Does he support:

    Impeaching the President?
    Defaulting on the Debt?
    Creationism and/or Intelligent Design?
    Legalizing drugs?
    Jailing climate deniers?

    etc

  8. OT: I see that Kerry wants us to release Jonathon Pollard to the Israelis to get them back to the negotiating table. And to think we came within a few points of electing this clown president.

Not Kerry. Obama. Or, Obama and Kerry acting together.

This deal has been dangled in front of Israel since about 1998, or maybe Israeli Prime Minsiters have claimed that this could happen and used it as a reason for agreeing to what the United states proposed, but this time it looks real: it was the main front page headline in the New York Times today! And I don’t think they ever printed a word about this idea before.

This occurs just after President obamas visit to Saudi Arabia (where Putin called him unexpectedly and pumped him for an hour to see what was in his mind and what he, Putin could safely do or not do in Ukraine without triggering a crisis he would not want to see)

I think Saudi Arabia gave its OK. I think Saudi Arabia is what has been holding up his release all these years, and the man in Saudi Arabia mainly responsible for that was Prince Bandar.

I think this is another sign that Prince bandar may be on the outs. Anotehr thing that happened last week was that Saudi Arabia named a deputy Crown prince – second in line to the throne – which they have never done before. It is King ibn Saud’s youngest son, age 69, only about five years older than Bandar.

They already had a created an electoral council for picking the Crown prince: all the surviving sons of King ibn Saud, or if they were no longer alive, the son’s oldest remaining sons. I think the number of members is 17. There was one son who didn’t have any sons.

Now they rush ahead and pick the king after next.

It’s still not going to the next generation.

  11. Explanation: Prince Bandar was the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States at the time of Pollard’s spying, and Pollard had believed he had developed a source in Prince Bandar’s office – only this person was probably a double agent, still Bandar could not be expected to like that, and also, Bandar may possibly have cultivated and turned one of Pollard’s Israeli handlers.

I suspect that is the big secret here: that is, a lot of documents Pollard took never made it to Israel but instead went to Saudi Arabia, and if he is released and gets really, really, debriefed, that might get discovered.

  12. Prince Muqrin, was a fellow Cranwell alum, and Bandar’s predecessor at General Intelligence, it’s seems they don’t trust anyone under 60,

Martelle’s logic doesn’t operate that way, immigration enforcement is doubleplusungood, fighting climate change is virtually a religious obligation,

And all we ask of the democrats is make republicans illegal aliens and deport them to the south pole!

  16. I believe it is a safe bet to say that Scott Martelle of the LA Times accepts that UN IPCC conferences increase Global Warming.

  17. Scott Martelle’s hot air is the cause of “global warming.”
Therefore, Scott Martelle needs to be reduced.
    Or something.
