FBI Dumps Southern Poverty Law Center As Authoritative Source for Determining Who Is A Hate Group

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:26 pm

It is absurd that the FBI ever used them to begin with:

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which has labeled several Washington, D.C.-based family organizations as “hate groups” for favoring traditional marriage, has been dumped as a “resource” on the FBI’s Hate Crime Web page, a significant rejection of the influential legal group.

The Web page scrubbing, which also included eliminating the Anti-Defamation League, was not announced and came in the last month after 15 family groups pressed Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director James Comey to stop endorsing a group — SPLC — that inspired a recent case of domestic terrorism at the Family Research Council.

Here’s shooter Floyd Corkins discussing how he decided to go try to kill as many people as he could at a Family Research Council office. He had 15 Chik-Fil-A sandwiches which he hoped to smear in the faces of the people he hoped to kill:

The SPLC has long been a joke. It is refreshing, if surprising, to see the FBI acknowledge it.

  6. Just their name—“Southern Poverty Law Center”—is intended to trick the average person into thinking they might be a group along the same lines as the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
After all, it sounds like they’re fighting poverty, or providing legal counsel to poor folks who can’t afford an attorney.

In truth, they’re fighting traditional conservative American institutions.

  9. Wow. I am flabbergasted. Astonished. Gobsmacked. I wonder what’s going on at DOJ, what could possibly be behind Holder authorizing such a move.

Not that it isn’t gratifying, of course, but when it’s Holder’s DOJ doing it you have to wonder when the other shoe will drop. Is it because the SPLC and ADL are white?

PS: I’m gratified about the ADL too. They’re not nearly as bad as SPLC, but every time Abe Foxman puts himself forth as the world’s expert on who is an antisemite, I cringe.

  11. SPLC isn’t even a genuine hard-left ideological conspiracy, bent on doing Gramscian damage to the USA. There are plenty of those, but SPLC is primarily a money-making scheme. The damage it’s done to US society is merely a side-effect; gratifying to its principals, I’m sure, but their main purpose is simply to become rich. Maybe that’s why Holder finally dumped them, but I doubt it, because it’s not as if this is some recent revelation; everyone who’s paid any attention has known this for at least 20 years. So my astonishment remains.

  12. I’m cynical: They’re dropping them from the list but consulting them in secret, I bet.

Or they have an even more extreme leftist organization that they have been cultivating and will now slot them into the place formerly occupied by the SPLC and the ADL.

. . . [the SPLC’s] main purpose is simply to become rich. Maybe that’s why Holder finally dumped them. . .

Maybe the organization and its leaders didn’t pledge enough resources to the get-out-the-vote drive for Democrats in 2014.

  13. The SPLC was probably openly categorizing as hate groups that that are definitely not hate groups, but merely oppose certain kinds of legislation or court rulings.

There may have bene some kind of fear of legal consequences in using their list.

    Sammy Finkelman (d6ef88)

  14. Sammy, you worked up some stuff on this in Department of Defense labeling of membership in “hate groups”, a few months back, on a thread here. As I recall, you pointed to the SPLC being used as a resource for the Army lecturer(s).

  15. The SPLC was probably openly categorizing as hate groups that that are definitely not hate groups, but merely oppose certain kinds of legislation or court rulings.

Well, yes, of course it was. It was also making up “hate groups” out of thin air. Bill Jacobson did some footwork in Rhode Island a few years ago, and found that while the SPLC claimed there were two active KKK branches in the state, neither one existed in any meaningful sense. But I can’t see what legal consequences DOJ could have feared.

This is so true. I have a friend who chairs the Poly Sci Dept. at a state university and this is the very claim he made as I patiently refuted his claims that the Teas are a subversive group. He believed the SPLC’s assessment of the Teas to be gospel because their mission is to look out for the persecuted and marginalized American.

Milhouse, the entire DC machine is a money-making scheme based upon rent-seeking, cronyism, graft, and corruption. So what does it matter what the principals of the SPLC actually believe? They play the role. If they’re cynically playing the role of concerned liberal looking out for the little guy, but are doing it to make money hand over fist, then they’d just fit right into that cesspool. You know the adage DC lives by. “Sincerity is everything. If you can fake that you’ve got it made.”

Eric Holder himself is worth an estimated $11.5 million. I could cite a litany of Democrats who’ve cynically used their positions to make money hand over fist. I mean, how do you become a multi-millionaire by spending a lifetime in “public service?” I can’t see Holder dumping the SPLC just for playing the same game everyone else is.

  26. @sammy @nk – is this what you are trying to find?

Looks like there is now proof this was going on and it wasn’t some low level sergeant looking up “stuff” on the Internet.

After Breitbart News reported on Thursday an official Department of Defense (DOD) document approved the anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a trustworthy source for information on dangerous “extremist” organizations and movements, Fox News released a letter dated Oct. 18 from Secretary of the Army John M. McHugh. He begins his letter noting a string of anti-Christian presentations and says the material is “inaccurate, objectionable and otherwise inconsistent with current Army policy.”

McHugh criticized SPLC for labeling Christian ministries, public-interest groups, and other conservative organizations as extremists, adding the “groups identified in the instruction were not ‘extremist’ organizations as that term is defined in Army Regulation 600-20.”

  28. SPLC has used the U.S. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to push its ZIONNIST AGENDA …

… over the past 5 – years of the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION!

If what the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of WHITE PEOPLE is saying about the SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER is UNTRUE the NAAWP invites the SPLC to FILE SUIT against U.S. in open court – The NAAWP says to the SPLC – “PUT UP or SHUT DOWN your ZIONNIST ORGANIZATION!”

The $PLC has always $UCKED, but the FBI proved it on 03-26-2014!

Now for the RE$T of the ZIONNI$T $TORY:

The $outhern Poverty Law Center was once considered a trouble making organization by law enforcement till Obama accepted them with open arms… Now FBI removes link to $outhern Poverty Law Center from its website, may continue using as resource after pressure from citizens

Christian groups are celebrating with the news that the Federal Bureau of Investigation appears to have scrubbed the $outhern Poverty Law Center ($PLC) from its hate crimes webpage, where the controversial group was listed as a resource and referred to as a partner in public outreach.

A letter to the U.S. Department of Justice, drafted by Lieutenant General (Ret.) William G. Boykin, Executive Vice President of the Family Research Council (FRC), calls such an association “completely unacceptable.”
Signed by fourteen other conservative and Christian leaders, the letter calls SPLC “a heavily politicized organization producing inaccurate and biased data on ‘hate groups’ – not hate crimes.” It accuses the $PLC of “providing findings that are not consistent with trends found in the FBI statistics.” Where the FBI has found hate crimes and hate groups declining significantly in the past ten years, $PLC claims hate groups have increased 67.3% since 2000. Where once SPLC’s hate list was reserved for groups like the Aryan Nation and the KKK, in 2010 $PLC started citing as hate groups those Christian groups that oppose same-sex marriage or believe homosexuality is not inborn, or are otherwise critical of homosexuality. Among the Christian groups targeted by $PLC was FRC.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION for the ADVANCEMENT of WHITE PEOPLE applauds the FBI’S decision to back away from the ZIONNI$T BA$$TURDS over at the $OUTHERN POVERTY LAW $INNER$ and the INFAMOU$ ANTI-DEFACATION LEAGUER$ on MARCH 26, 2014.

The NAAWP has always DESIGNATED the $PLC & the ADL as ANTI-WHITE, ANTI-CHRISTIAN, ANTI-CONSERVATIVE., PR-ABORTION ZIONNIST HATE GROUPS and the FBI basically verified our BELIEFS on 03-26-2014.

GOD BLESS AMERICA and to HELL with the LILY WHITE LYING LIBERAL ZIONNI$T$ amongst U.S.,
