A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Filed under: General — Dana @ 1:06 pm

[guest post by Dana]

As we are all well aware, March is Women’s History month. Here is President Obama’s proclamation.

In part,

As women fight for their seats at the head of the table, my Administration offers our unwavering support. The first bill I signed as President was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which made it easier for women to challenge pay discrimination. Under the Affordable Care Act, we banned insurance companies from charging women more because of their gender, and we continue to defend this law against those who would let women’s bosses influence their health care decisions. Last year, recognizing a storied history of patriotic and courageous service in our Armed Forces, the United States military opened ground combat units to women in uniform. We are also encouraging more girls to explore their passions for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and taking action to create economic opportunities for women across the globe. Last fall, we finalized a rule to extend overtime and minimum wage protections to homecare workers, 90 percent of whom are women. And this January, I launched a White House task force to protect students from sexual assault.

Clearly, there is much to disagree with and debate within the proclamation. Not all of us play gender politics, and not all of us see these changes as a positive for our country. Also, it’s important to note that the progress cited in the proclamation is not necessarily being accurately reflected.

In the interest of brevity and because a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, I will simply say that I choose to be grateful for what others dare not dream about. And I don’t need one month of the year federally designated as a reminder.

  12. Wow! Another Obama speech full of leftist hyperbole, catch phrases, exaggerations, half truths and full blown lies.

Let’s just consider Dana’s example paragraph.
“As women fight for their seats at the head of the table” Other than the usual bull shit, meaningless leftist phrase what on earth does “their seats at the head of the table” mean? What table? What doe it even represent?

“the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which made it easier for women to challenge pay discrimination.”
I believe that’s code for “enhancing the grievance industry to broaden the lawsuits lawyers can cash in on for my friends at the ACLU”.

“Under the Affordable Care Act, we banned insurance companies from charging women more because of their gender” Typical lie. Women were never charged more “because of their gender”, they were charged more because the actuary’s note they use more health care services. Women also pay less for car insurance for the same reason. Is the leftist asshole gonna raise their car insurance rates?

“and we continue to defend this law against those who would let women’s bosses influence their health care decisions”. Really? so now a person is banned from “influencing” another person? I can try and “influence” any damn thing I want as long as I don’t “force” someone to do something against their will. Like Obama’s doing to me with the ACA. That’s not “influence” Obama, that’s force. Lyin’ pig.

“We are also encouraging more girls to explore their passions for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics” Why? You don’t like the career choices “girls” make Obama? You know better what they should study and which fields they should enter? My God, you are one arrogant idiot!

“and taking action to create economic opportunities for women across the globe” Across the globe? Now our taxes are supposed to create opportunities for some idiot in Somalia? Or Crimea? Hey asshole, women “across the globe” aren’t your concern. Women here are. And even they aren’t your concern, you daughters are, not mine.

“Last fall, we finalized a rule to extend overtime and minimum wage protections to homecare workers, 90 percent of whom are women.” If 90% of them are women, don’t you think it’s time for a program to encourage “boys” the “explore their passions” in this industry? I mean since women are the majority and all.

“And this January, I launched a White House task force to protect students from sexual assault.”
I am stunned to hear that under your administration of the last five years students had been unprotected from sexual assault. My Gog man, what have you been doing, playing golf? Go forth and protect the students by all means since so far you have apparently failed to do so.

These leftists are so stupid and just so damn predictable.

Meanwhile, in the real world, women are now more likely than men to earn a college degree at every level from associate to PhD, while college-age men are something like seven or eight times as likely to be in prison as their female counterparts. Also, the unemployment rate for males age 18-25 is consistently 3 to 5 percentage points higher than the unemployment rate for females in that age group.

But hey, it’s young women who are really in crisis, right Mr. President? Is it because you won two-thirds of the 18-29 women’s vote in 2012 that you are so furiously pandering to them?

    JVW (9946b6)

If Obama wanted to highlight the difficulties that women face in Muslim-dominated countries, that might be very instructive. But of course the dictates of multiculturalism and the leftist fetish for the Third World don’t allow for anything but the mildest form of criticism of those types of practices. Instead, it’s those meanies who won’t force Catholic colleges to hook up their 30-year-old law students with birth control pills who are the real bad guys.

  28. @ JVW,

But of course the dictates of multiculturalism and the leftist fetish for the Third World don’t allow for anything but the mildest form of criticism of those types of practices.

Dr. Phyllis Chesler, a strident feminist who [o]nce lived in a harem in Afghanistan…but survived, escaped, and learned about gender and religious apartheid long before the Taliban, and has spent her adult life fighting against all manner of gender degradation and apartheid in third worlds, had a similar thought,

Western feminist academics and activists are reluctant to take a stand against honor killing in the West lest they be accused of racism or “Islamophobia”—even though the victims are women of color.

Their alleged anti-racism trumps their concerns with women’s rights. They are multi-cultural relativists who have sacrificed universal standards of human rights on the altar of “political correctness.

I would submit that this is true of our current administration, (predominantly male) as well.

  33. Yes, JVW, I think she would be. I tried to link to her website in my previous comment, but for some reason, I can no longer link or hyperlink. So here’s her link: http://www.phyllis-chesler.com/about/biography

Anyone know why linking function ceases to work?

    Dana (9a8f57)

  34. Let’s see if linking function still works with Internet Explorer. It doesn’t with Firefox that I’ve been using lately.

Even with IE, the highlighted text gets eaten and I get a URL with verbiage. I have to carefully take out the verbiage while preserving the tags after the quotation marks of the URL and type in the hypertext I want.

Looks like a link in the preview.

  36. As nk says, Dana, hyperlinking doesn’t work on Firefox. It works fine on Safari and Chrome if you are a Mac user.

    JVW (9946b6)

  37. From Dr. Chesler’s site:

Since 9/11, Dr. Chesler has focused on the rights of women, dissidents, and gays in the Islamic world; on anti-Semitism and the demonization of Israel; the psychology of terrorism; the nature of propaganda; and honor-related violence. She has testified for Muslim and ex-Muslim women who are seeking asylum or citizenship based on their credible belief that their families will honor kill them.

Yep, here is the sort of strident feminist that we can work with (to quote my favorite strident feminist, Margaret Thatcher). I’ll have to Google her name to confirm that TPM, Kos, The Nation, and the rest of them hate her. I’m assuming they do.
