Hillary: Russian Actions in Crimea Not Actually Nazi-Like

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:58 am

Walkback:

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday pulled back from comparing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine to those of Hitler.

She said comments made the night before at a private event were meant only to bring “a little historical perspective” to Russia’s claim that it entered the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine in order to protect ethnic-Russians.

“That is reminiscent of claims that were made back in the 1930s, when Germany under the Nazis, kept talking about how they had to protect German minorities in Poland and Czechoslovakia and elsewhere throughout Europe,” she said. “So I just want everybody to have a little historic perspective. I am not making a comparison, but I am recommending that we can perhaps learn from this tactic that has been used before.”

Meanwhile, we have this:

She seems surprised to find herself as a propaganda tool for a nasty regime, but she’s doing something about it, so kudos for that.

  1. Hitler’s time was a long time ago. What difference, at this point, doe the analogy make now?

  4. It depends on what the meaning of “Hitler” is.

She’s a Clinton. Everything she says is a lie.

That’s not necessarily a bad quality in a diplomat. If only (as Secretary of State) she had used her mendacity for good instead of evil.

  5. “reminiscent of …”
    “historical perspective”

    — Nope. There’s no comparative language being used there; no sir!
One would guess that Hillary wishes to distance herself from any suggestion that Putin might engage in Holocaust-type activities . . . which makes it extra special to note that Crimea’s Jewish community has announced their desire to remain part of Ukraine and NOT be absorbed into the New Russian Empire.

  6. The Cossacks were never kind to Jews. It’s also interesting that Viktor Pinchuck, Leonid Kuchma’s son-in-law, was offered the governorship of Zaporizhia.

I would take all stories coming out of Ukraine, from any side, with a large grain of salt.

  8. So, in other words, the potential 2016 democratic presidential nominee, ex-SoS, wasn’t expecting her opinion to be reported on a global security event. Shame on the make believe media. They’re just ruining it for the Hilldawg! Expect an apology from the lapdog media in 5, 4, 3…

OK, did Putin steal this tactic from the ACORN anti-Tea Party Activists, or did the AaTPA steal it from the KGB playbook?

39.There were different groups involved in Maidan – some of them probably working for Putin.

In particular I have in mind the anti-semites.

Yes, the snipers at Maiden may have been hired by some people connected to the demonstrators – who were working for Putin!

She failed miserably. All Hillary! managed to accomplish is demonstrate the same historical illiteracy as President Ditherington Armslength McMomJeans did in his Cairo speech.

It will no doubt impress her lobotomized base, though.

There is no hope. I’m selling my house and buying a sailboat. Me and my crew of strippers will go island to island in the Carib working the resorts until the authorities kick us out.

Clearly President Beiber was negotiating for some flexibility over the drag queen outfit he/she/it will have to wear at the next meet-up with Putin and his ex-KGB buddies. When Mean Girl will be making the sammiches and mixing the drinks while the boys play poker.

These are the words of fools.

The guy who gave me my first job loading trucks earned the Silver Star in Korea. He crawled through enemy fire four times, wounded, 600 yards to recover three men and a body at his formerly occupied position. The last time he was ordered to withdraw and leave the body in position.

He spent a year in the hospital.

My parish priest captured 11 NORKs at the point of his .45.

  33. Ukraine update:

Putin invited Kerry to Moscow. Kerry said he won’t go until he gets the ansewrs to a series of written questions.

Newly installed Ukrainian president to meet Obama in Washington on Wednesday. (Todaay, Tuesday, Obama is busy fundraising in New York City.)

House passed bill to authorize $1 billion in loan giarantees to Ukraine (this is more a sign of solidarity than serious help) in some difficulty because the Senate Foreign Relations Committee draft version of the bill includes a provision increasing lending authority of the International Monetary Fund (it shifts money from the crisis fund to the general accounts)

This is a problem because back in 2010, Obama negotiated a reduction of U.S. and other OECD country influence at the IMF giving more power to countries like China, India and Brazil, so now Congressman Jeb Hensarling of Texas, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee doesn’t want to give so much support to international lending institutions because they might be bailing out irresponsible countries.

White House officials told House Speaker Boehner if he goes along, Ukraine’s loan package would grow from $1 billon to $1.6 billion.

This is one of the things House Republicans earlier thought they might give the White House in exchange for some deal on the budget or debt ceiling. And they are complaining their credibility is at stake, because the change is something they negotiated and the United States is the only remaining country that needs to agree.
