  4. I think you left out Florida vs. Florida State.

It is going to be a great day in Alabama!

    Go TIGERS!!! WarEagle!!!

  5. since feets brought it up,
happened to have Fox News in the background on last night, a couple of different shows were interviewing the 20-35 crowd about politics
some folk were seeing things as pretty grim wi9th the climbing debt and no jobs to pay taxes to pay it
but one person said he was all for hillary as he thought electing a black was a historical occasion and that electing the first woman would be a historical occasion too

no one asked him if he would vote for Sarah Palin.
so sad that a person can say this and think it shows they are educated and forward thinking
what do they teach in schools these days?
    (Don’t answer that)
One young woman spoke up and said she would never vote for a woman because she was a woman, that she would have to be a good candidate as well. that was encouraging.

  6. Why does Auburn have two nicknames, BTW?

MD in Philly (from a different computer and location) (fc692c)

  7. I thought War Eagle was the fight song of Auburn rather than a mascot. It is confusing though since I think they have an eagle at games, which I suppose is better than having a tiger.

  8. I posted that study by Bradley U, where they proved the ;conventional wisdom, wrong about her supposed detrimental effect on the campaign, the Examiner links it, with a less then flattering picture,

  9. Man. Ohio State and Michigan players seem to be a bit tightly wound today. And a few of them will not be finishing the game as a result.

    elissa (a9a567)

  10. It would be a huge upset if Michigan can knock off Ohio State today, but I’ve seen a few Michigan games this year and I’m not sure they can do it.

I’m already looking forward to Alabama and Florida State in the championship game. That should be good, and I might even give Florida State the edge.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  11. The Auburn Tigers have their War Eagle chant, and the Alabama Crimson Tide has an elephant mascot. Traditions can be confusing.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  12. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player rip off an opposing player’s helment.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  13. Helmet, not helment, although the latter sounds tougher.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  14. USC/UCLA…

    the only game that matters.

    redc1c4 (abd49e)

  15. Blue collar snobbery! You forgot the Dukies!!!

Auburn has also been known as the Plainsmen, and the Orange. If you’ve never been, it really does live up to its moniker, “The loveliest village on the plains.”

    Go Irish!

  16. Michigan-Ohio State is a barnburner.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  19. Wow. Does Michigan not have a kicker?

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  20. And at the complete other end of the spectrum–they’re fighting for the Land of Lincoln Trophy this afternoon.

    Both teams come in limping.
The Illini are coming off a win in Big Ten play and have a chance to make it back-to-back Big Ten wins for the first time in two years. This week’s opponent: the in-state rivals from up north, Northwestern.

Northwestern (4-7, 0-7 Big Ten) has yet to win a Big Ten game and has lost seven straight since opening the season 4-0. Illinois (4-7, 1-6) won three of its first four and struggled its way through conference play.

    Prolly won’t be a barnburner.

Please ignore 19. That was a cat enabled premature submit.

  22. When I was at Illinois in the ’70s, the football team was fresh off NCAA sanctions. We’d cheer when we got first downs (not often). Eventually, we got a new head coach from Dartmouth(!), and it got to the point where we’d cheer if we won the toss.

Eventually, we got a good coach, some good players, a bunch of wins, and a fresh set of sanctions. Rinse and repeat.

Now I live in south central Oregon, and the local college (OIT) is proud of its basketball team. The local populace is split evenly between Ducks (U of O), Beavers (OSU) and don’t care.

    Go Frightenin’ Illini!

    Red County Pete (43af93)

  23. OSU and Michigan was sublime.

    JD (d1fc85)

  24. Red Country Pete–the Northern Illinois Huskies are the best college football team in Illinois right now. They’ve had a amazing couple of seasons. They’re 12 and 0 right now.

    elissa (a9a567)

  25. Hats off to Penn State for being tough today
Hats off to Wisconsin for making a game of it after trying real hard to give it away.
What ever happened to Wisconsin at the end of the first half through about the beginning of the 4th quarter, I have no idea.
Perhaps as one of the announcers said, the coaches over thought it.

It seems they’ve done that a lot, under different coaches the last 4 years.
trying to pass when they should run it.

  26. WOW @ Auburn.

    RSM hardest hit

    Dustin (a3f7c9)

  27. roll over tide!

    redc1c4 (abd49e)

  28. What a great game for Ohio State too. Best foosball day in a long time.

    Dustin (a3f7c9)

  29. Well, it took the Tigers from the Plains of Auburn to finally knock the SEC out of the BCS title game…

    Or, did it do that???

OSU has to beat MSU, which won’t be easy….

    Missouri/Auburn winner will have a tremendous ranking….

FSU will be playing without a QB in about two weeks….

    #8 awaits…

    reff (4dcda2)

  30. Cliche of the day for Alabama:
“Be careful what you wish for.”
    That was great.
I think it would be hard to deny Auburn the BCS Championship Game if they win the SEC Conf. title.
More confusing will be if Missouri wins out.

MD in Philly (from a different computer and location) (fc692c)

  31. Wow, that’s an interesting Iron Bowl. And it’ll be interesting to see what happens to Auburn in the rankings. I don’t think they can leapfrog OSU but it might happen. They have more room for improvement.

Smock Puppet, Gadfy, Racist-Sexist Thug, and Bon Vivant All In One Package (225d0d)

  32. It’ll help Auburn a lot if SC can knock off Clemson, too.

Smock Puppet, Gadfy, Racist-Sexist Thug, and Bon Vivant All In One Package (225d0d)

  33. MD…
Missouri would have won at Georgia, at Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Auburn at a neutral site..

FSU would have won at Clemson, and…..

OSU would have to beat Michigan State, which will be tough….but then their best win is on the last play against Michigan…

Both Missouri and Auburn have been better tested…problem is that they each have a loss…

    reff (4dcda2)

  34. Auburn has a loss? I thought at #4 they were undefeated!!
There goes the rational for my analysis.
    Pardon me for speaking up,
still, it was a great win for Auburn.

    happyfeet (8ce051)

  36. Did you see Nick Satan leave the field? Did he even go to mid-field to see Gus? It looked like he kind of slithered off the field.

    I predicted a good game but I wasn’t predicting this…

Two or three weeks ago, I explained why the “Crimson Tide” is called the “Crimson Tide.” And now I’ll give you the link to why we say “War Eagle” at Auburn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Eagle

RSM is probably curled up in the fetal position crying along his new grandson…

    Go TIGERS!!! WarEagle!!!

    WarEagle82 (b18ccf)

  37. Vegas has Ohio State as 1.5 point favorites over Auburn, should they meet.

    JD (5c1832)

  38. What a finish. I’d hate to be an Alabama fan tonight.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  39. Ohio State has to get by Michigan State first.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  40. That Alabama-Auburn game was a stem-winder. Way to go War Eagles. Despite, you know, beating the Aggies.

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  41. Speaking of Auburn, can anyone tell me why two schools in the Deep South play “Battle Hymn of the Republic?”

Ag80, I think we should probably get used to 8-4 and fourth in the West, with an occasional breakout 10-2 season.

    Diffus (4a5ca6)

  42. You may be right, diffus, but I’m more optimistic. I think Sumlin is a good coach. I think a whole lot of Texas recruits will want the opportunity to play for a Texas team in the SEC.

Regardless, we had the opportunity to stick it to Mack Brown, Deloss Dodds and that stupid Longhorn Network. Hubris works both ways.

By the way, I actually like Mack Brown. I think he’s a good coach that cares about his players. Too bad he decided to go the t-sip way.

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  43. I think the next few years are likely to be a very exciting time in the SEC…

    WarEagle82 (b18ccf)

  44. I have absolutely no clue what this thread is all about and least of all the references to RSM. As far as I could find out on the interwebs, Rancho Santa Margarita only has a high school football team; what the Royal School of Mines calls football is soccer; and the Russian School of Management does not have any sports teams at all. ?

    nk (dbc370)

  45. rsm is a blogger that’s semi-popular in certain circles but not so much my personal circle which is kinda sorta squicked out by him

    he’s just not my people

    happyfeet (8ce051)

  46. That is “interwebz” and RSM is Robert Stacy McCain, AKA “The Other McCain” and is a notorious ‘Bama fan…

    See http://theothermccain.com/2013/11/30/incredible-disaster-catastrophe-apocalypse/#disqus_thread for more dtails…

Where would the world be if it wasn’t for knowledgeable, helpful Auburn grads?

    WarEagle82 (b18ccf)

  47. And Clemson v. South Carolina and Mizz and TAM are quite exciting games too.

College football isn’t quite done for the night…

    WarEagle82 (b18ccf)

  48. Wow. Clemson is falling apart in the last five minutes of the game…

    WarEagle82 (b18ccf)

  49. I wrote #42 before I heard they’d given Sumlin an extension. I guess TBTB haven’t learned from the last two times they did that. I wonder what it’s going to cost them if he ever wins a division title.

Oh, well, the only good thing about this is that there’s a bunch of upset people over on texags.com. I’ve never encountered a bigger bunch of seven-letter-word-for-jerks on the Internet than Aggies.

    Diffus (4a5ca6)

  50. The SEC Championship will be Auburn vs. Mizzou.

I have not seen Mizzou play this year but I expect Gus and his staff will spend a lot of time with film this week.

This has turned into a most improbable season.

Man, would I like to be in Atlanta next weekend…

    Go TIGERS!!! WarEagle!!!

    WarEagle82 (b18ccf)

  51. Congratulations to Auburn. The War Eagles will defeat Mizzou.

    Why bother with two-percenters?

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  52. Who says you need to know something about the subject, to contribute to the conversation? Enjoy, Auburn fans. http://imgur.com/OjHLdJt

  53. Urban Meyer better send HUGE Christmas presents to Brady Hoke and Nick Saban.

    JD (5c1832)

  54. Let’s get this straight. We are the Auburn Tigers. But our battle cry and greeting is “War Eagle!”

We are not the Auburn “War Eagles.”

Here is the link to explain why we say “War Eagle” at Auburn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Eagle

There is an appalling lack of knowledge of Auburn sports minutia here…
