Our “Narcissist In Chief” Yesterday

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 2:06 pm

Ekdahl asked for a painting of Obama staring at the Kennedy painting, and a wiseacre obliged. Here is one of his pictures:

  2. Neither he nor any of his immediate advisers have any self awareness or this sort of thing would never happen. And yet it does happen. Time and time again. Pathetic. The mocking is warranted and is most excellent photoshop work.

You mean showing his great respect for our forefathers by skipping the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg address so he could attend the Wall Street Journal CEO Council and address them?

Such is his respect for our forefathers. Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican President, may still be voting Democrat in Illinois. But he’s not writing checks.

Well, if that black man were a conservative Republican — and a truly staunch person of the right, at that — I bet the picture of him looking at past presidents would be greeted with a big snicker and guffaw from someone like you.

“What a sell-out, what a Tom!, what a suck-up!, what an Oreo!,” you’d be muttering under your breath.

    Mark (58ea35)

  24. i never understood about “muttering under your breath”

    is that even english?

and how did oreos get involved? “oreos are a popular sammich cookie and very very tasty with milk,” happyfeet muttered under his breath. But everyone heard anyway cause it not like they deaf.

  32. the fact that Caroline Kennedy avoided this orgy of nostalgia and Boomer narcissism

I believe she and other members of the Kennedy family have in past years said that the public, instead of fixating upon JFK’s death, should focus on his birthday. But that we don’t do that — 50 years after the fact — says a lot about how we treat tragedy — at least in the particular case of November 22, 1963 — as a cathartic device, or in a way that’s analogous to rubbernecking when passing a major car crash on the side of the road.

Moreover, I don’t believe that Lincoln’s ill-fated day in Ford’s Theater has ever been approached in the same way (perhaps even over 100 years ago?) that his birth date has been dealt with.

As for Caroline Kennedy’s image, it was quite pristine to me until the moment 4 years ago when she clumsily decided to run for the US Senate seat of New York. Prior to that, I always respected her seeming desire to avoid showboating (hello, Bill and Hillary!) and hogging the limelight.

  33. Ear Leader, Long Dong O, is such a shrinking violet.

He should be facing the camera, his countenance above the painting on the right.

Thereby rendering the genuflection of history to his awesomeness.

  34. Moreover, I don’t believe that Lincoln’s ill-fated day in Ford’s Theater has ever been approached in the same way (perhaps even over 100 years ago?) that his birth date has been dealt with.

Wait until April 2015, the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s assassination, when Obama lovingly watches from the Presidential box at the reopened Ford’s Theater a new play by acclaimed playwright Tony Kushner called “The Men from Illinois,” which is a meditation upon a fictional meeting between Lincoln and Obama in which the former blesses the latter and thanks him for carrying on the unfinished work of the Great Emancipator.
