Some Fun for a Friday: What Some People May Refer To As “BALL”

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:37 am

Blogs sometimes have a way of creating catch phrases. One troll at this blog famously flounced with this comment:

haha. I finally got to patterico! I work here is done. Screw off, folks.

“I work here is done” has lived on for more than four years and is now a part of the history of this blog.

A recent potential catch phrase came up at Popehat and I wanted to highlight it:

The elitists in our society are making an example of Mr. Shuler. Because he is independent. He does not have to answer to anyone. (i.e. his boss, political party, or his editor) Moreover Mr. Shuler has what some people may refer to as “BALL”.

I demand that this phrase be immortalized.

It has competition, though. Brett Kimberlin’s moronic RICO lawsuit against half the conservative blogosphere contains the following phrase about me:

His orders are followed, his directives are heeded, his legal analysis is unquestioned, and his statements are believed.

“His orders are followed, his directives are heeded” is destined to become a classic.

And why not? After all . . . I have what some people may refer to as “BALL.”

So I suppose I’ll just get back to following your orders and obeying your directives until I work here is done.

Uh, I have been waiting for my orders. Did everybody else get theirs? Am I on a blacklist or something?

Can I at least get a directive?

  16. Would it surprise anyone to read about an EO from the WH forbidding the release of details to the public by insurance companies and their business clients of the anticipated price increases for business-provided health-care insurance?
I think it would be in keeping with the past practice they demonstrated in telling defense contractors that they administration would “cover” any penalties accrued to them on failing to properly notify employees of upcoming layoffs due to cancellations of government contracts.

  17. They won’t have to … people procrastinate. The insurance companies and/or their regulators won’t have the numbers ready until the night before.

  20. Here’s the ad I’d run, starting October 15th:

“October 15th was the day that the rest of America was supposed to find out how Obamacare would affect them. Many have been worried that the sticker shock and reduced access to doctors that happened in the first wave would happen to them, too, for 2015.

But the administration has postponed the 2nd wave Obamacare rollout for employer plans until after the election.

Do you suppose it’s good news they’re hiding?:

Paid for by the Republican Party.

  27. narciso, everyone in my cabal already has a t-shirt. They had a choice of two:

  31. 27- Does that explain James Bond’s association with the Beretta 418, and the Walther PPK?

    askeptic (b8ab92)

  32. No, that was Ian Fleming not knowing s**t from shinola. Donald Hamilton knew guns, and Matt Helm carried a J-frame snubbie .38. When he could get one. Or a .22 plinker he had lying around. Or whatever he took off some dead guy (he’d usually killed). Much cooler guy than James Bond. You can even see it from his name — just two syllables.

    Matt Helm…James Bond…
but they both only have two syllables…

maybe we ought to request his powerfulness P to run for president in 2016
    just a suggestion.

  35. Je-eems. I’ll accept Colonel Haiku’s decision.

    nk (dbc370)

  36. I concede, you’re right. It’s silly to break down the “a” into two, the way I did, when it’s its own name.

    nk (dbc370)

  37. askeptic, Ian Fleming wrote that James Bond carried his PPK in a holster that in fact was only manufactured for revolvers …

Our *four*…no… *Amongst* our weapons…. Amongst our weaponry…are such elements as fear, surprise…. I’ll come in again.”

    narciso (3fec35)

  42. Were any of those trolls writing those lines that will live for eternity Bill DeBlasio, mayor elect of New York?

Because this, apparently, is not a joke.

    http://nypost.com/2013/11/21/de-blasio-hearing-plenty-of-policing-advice-from-ex-cons/

Forget Ray Kelly, Bill de Blasio is getting his policing advice from the real experts — hardened criminals.

A group of 50 ex-cons, junkies and chronic vagrants gathered at a Manhattan “Think Tank” Thursday to describe what they thought the NYPD should be doing to make their lives easier.

The felonious forum outlined a clear “get-soft-on-crime” vision.

“I like the idea of ending stop and frisk. That was the first thing that was totally there for me,” opined Mikell Green-Grand, a 49-year-old former jailbird who has convictions for grand larceny and identity theft.

…Castillo, of Bayside, Queens, called for de Blasio to both “redistribute” the wealth and pay what is, in effect, protection money.

“A lot of money is spent on the prison system — it should be used to cultivate prisoners lives,” he opined. “The money should be redistributed to help those who want to change while they are incarcerated.”

At least I don’t think it’s a joke, based upon the crap I’ve heard at city council meetings when I lived in Kali.

You always get a “community leader” demanding the city council “listen to the people with the problem.”

You know what you’ll never hear when you listen to the people with the problems? The solution. For that, you need to listen to the people without the problem.

But you will hear a lot of this redistributionist crap. Because redistributionist liberals are a lot like thieves. They have the same mindset you’ll find in any city or county jail. It’s just that instead of stealing things themselves, they’ll vote for a Bill DeBlasio to steal it for them.

More Friday Fun! Are you not feeling inclusive?

  45. Moreover Mr. Shuler has what some people may refer to as “BALL”.

    Topgun flashback:

    Maverick, call the BALL

    Maverick has the BALL

I don’t think Mr. Schuler has had what some people may refer to as BALL since Tom Cruise took it away from him back in the 80s.

Patterico definitely has way, and that’s why my heed his directives, until I work here is done.
