Texas Man Kills Kidnappers With Gun

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:06 pm

Nice shootin’, Tex:

Authorities say a Houston-area man turned the tables on two bank robbery suspects who had abducted him and his wife by pulling a gun on the unsuspecting duo and shooting them both, killing one of them.

The suspects apparently knew that the woman worked at the First National Bank of Eagle Lake in Columbus, and they abducted her and her husband at gunpoint at their residence north of the city on Thursday and drove them back to the bank, Columbus County Sheriff’s Sgt. Andrew Weido told Houston television station KHOU.

The suspects forced the woman to taken an undisclosed amount of money from the bank, then forced the husband to drive them in his truck down Highway 71, Weido said. It was then that the husband grabbed a gun that was in the truck and fired at the suspects, he said.

It always helps when the criminal is stupid, of course.

And he probably saved his and his wife’s life.

Little by little, I think these results add up to quite a bit.

Give him the key to the city.

  18. Former Conservative,

Your comment made me curious because I don’t remember seeing signs with green circles, and I wondered if there are any. It turns out there are and this website says the green circle means you are obligated to do what the sign says. Thus, wouldn’t the correct signage is a red circle since there isn’t a requirement that people carry guns, only that they are welcome?

    JD (b63a52)

  26. That’s hilarious, EPWJ. Naturally you didn’t follow the link that said:

Note: This article has also appeared on RedState.com.

When it originally appeared at RedState the headline and subheadline read:

16 Reasons Why Hillary is Poised to Win in 2016

And Republicans Better Be Prepared To Fight Back Like Never Before

    And the introduction read:

By the standards of “political time” where in one day a candidate can go from frontrunner to underdog, the November 8, 2016 presidential election is decades away. But from this 2013 vantage point all signs point to Hillary Clinton coasting to the Democrat party nomination and winning the White House.

As a lifelong Republican I am not pleased with my own prediction – for nothing would thrill me more than if a Conservative were to win back the White House in 2016. But my political reality instincts lead me to believe the following:

That unless there is a radical change of circumstances within the Republican Party and its crop of 2016 presidential wannabes, or there is some unforeseen cataclysmic national event that dramatically alters the current economic and political landscape, or a serious deterioration in Hillary’s health – there are 16 reasons why Hillary Clinton is poised to be elected the next President of the United States in 2016 — listed below in order of importance.

Naturally you link to the deceptively edited version. With the headline and subheadline:

16 Reasons Why Hillary Clinton Will Win 2016

Sorry, folks, this race is over. Conservative Myra Adams lists the many reasons Hillary will win the White House in 2016—from gross media bias to groupthink and barrels of money.

And the Daily Beast altered the introduction as follows:

By the standards of “political time,” where in one day a candidate can go from frontrunner to underdog, the 2016 presidential election is decades away. But from this vantage point, all signs point to Hillary Clinton coasting to the Democrat Party nomination and winning the White House.

As a lifelong Republican, I am not pleased with my own prediction—nothing would thrill me more than if a conservative were to win back the presidency. But my political reality instincts lead me to believe the following. (And I’ve been right before: in January 2011, I cowrote “12 Reasons Obama Wins in 2012.”)

Unless there is a radical change of circumstances within the Republican Party and its crop of presidential wannabes, or some unforeseen cataclysmic national event that dramatically alters the current economic and political landscape, or a serious deterioration in her health, Hillary has it locked up.

  78. Horrible. Where were the parents?

Well, Dustin, as far as “parents” go I would bet you dollars to dimes that this is one of those typical situation where the dad has been absent for most of the boy’s short life. And it sounds like one of those street situations where they had him on the attempted murder charge, but none of his victims would agree to testify against him. The code of the neighborhood or whatever.

In this case, the mother of this angel only had one child. Boo hoo.

  80. 21. Tawana Brawley isn’t paying this, of course, the crooks who support Al Sharpton are paying this.

    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/pay_up_time_for_brawley_8q8M98zvpApS46BonCokvI

She sent ten separate checks, totalling $3,764.61 (one shown in the New York Post is for $358.31 and comes from “The Laurels of Bon Air LLC” – the name of her employer in Richmond, Virginia.)

This money is not coming oit of her wages. They are already being garnished. This is extram and legally, probably, are gifts from untraceable sources. But probably drug dealers, ticket scalpers, people in the music business, sneaker companies or people with businesses benefiting from government grants. Benefitting from Al Sharpton and company really. Al Sharpton has probably taxed them.

The total owed is now up to $431,000 because of 9% interest on the $190,000 1998 judgement.

All this to make sure she doesn’t tell the truth, because Steven Pagones has repeatedly said that if she told the truth, he’d waive the judgement on her.

An important secret, or at least an important thing to deny.

It’s not that it would cost Al Sharpton money directly. The $66,000 judgement on Sharpton was paid years ago by O.J. Simpson lawyer Johnny Cochran and others. Attorney Alton Maddox was found liable for $97,000 and Attorney C. Vernon Mason for $188,000, and I think their judgements have been paid, or are being gradually paid.

Maddox’s law license was suspended in 1990 but he is still active – he tried to petition the Surry County court to stop the garnishment of Twana Brawley’s wages. Mason was a minister in addtition to being a lawyer but was disbarred in 1995, and he’s been mostly silent.

Tawana Brawley was found earlier this year working as licensed practical nurse. She’s used names like Tawana Thompson and Gutierrez and has a daughter and was seen emerging from her house with a young girl and aman dressed in hospital scrubs.

I think years ago, she told the truth to some freinds, but it was found out and she disappeared or something like that.

Perhaps Shaaliver’s gun can join Trayvon’s hoodie at the Smithsonian?

That may not go so quickly to the Smitsonian. Tthe Smithsonian wants it. But Parks (a Martin family lawyer) said it’s too early. That’s the same person who during the trial said it wasn’t racial. I think they sense a problem with this case and don’t want it too closely examined.

and as for the hoodie itself, it might not look at all like the hoodie shown in that picture that was circulated of some not too dark skinned black teenager in a hoodie who would definitely pass the paper bag test.

From what I gathered the cops did society a favor. Wouldn’t matter to me what color the punk was. Anyone familiar with the HBO series The Wire, recognizes the sociopathic behavior. Though you claimed to object to your commenters going over the line, you bring the exact same type of leftist CIVILITY to this thread.

Will SPQR stop at libel?, who knows?

Is it? These two fine gentlemen were kidnappers, at the very least, and might well have turned out to be murderers, given more time and an unarmed victim. Why is it a tragedy when people like that go to their eternal reward a little bit earlier than anticipated?

I will ask a simple and obvious question: is the community better off with these two gentlemen here or gone?

    narciso (3fec35)

  121. Yes, and they deny the increase in gun ownership, and try to frame routine everyday crimes that happen to involve a gun as indicative of the failure of gun control laws. And that is on their good days.

    JD (b63a52)

The answer is “yes”, but calling them gentlemen is an insult to those of us who strive to be gentlemen.

They were men; there was nothing gentle about them.

I don’t believe in deterrence and other socio-psychological nonsense — criminologists and legal philosophers should get themselves jobs. I do believe in incapacitaion so the murderer will not commit any more crimes and, sometimes you just got to f***ing kill them. What they did is just too evil to go unpunished by anything other than the most extreme penalty.

    nk (875f57)

  125. Absolutely, nk. We don’t kill murderers to punish them or to deter others, because it probably isn’t a deterrence given how long it takes to carry out executions. But capital punishment definitely keeps murderers from murdering again.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the elder of two brothers blamed for carrying out the attack, subscribed to publications featuring white supremacist views and government conspiracy theories. He also was reading about mass killings, according to a BBC report broadcast Monday titled “The Brothers Who Bombed Boston.”

Contrary to the BBC report, U.S. officials from FBI investigators to President Barack Obama have described Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as disillusioned Chechen immigrants who adopted radical jihadist beliefs.

    redc1c4 (abd49e)

  148. Aren’t Islamic terrorists right wing? They can’t be left wing, can they?

I wouldn’t call the Nazis really right wing or left wing. They are called right-wing because they made an enemy (except for a 22 month period) of what was positioned as being on the extreme left wing. Then there’s the idea that it’s a circle and they meet.

Rigt wing may not have any real meaning here, but it’s the word people use sometimes for the Nazis. Islamicists are probably placed on the right too.

But then, liberals place anything they don’t like on the right. As William F. Buckley once complained, Brezhnev and the Soviet Politburo was called right wing in many newspaper accounts.

It is so placed by our friends on the left who wish to use guilt-by-association to tar conservatives, when no such association exists. But we should give some credit to the left here: they realize that controlling the language means controlling the argument, and they have done an absolutely excellent job of controlling the language.
