Misfire: New York Times Publishes, Pulls Weiner Article

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:16 am

What is it with Weiner and accidental publication? Atlantic Wire:

What does The New York Times have on Anthony Weiner that they aren’t ready to tell the rest of the world yet? Probably the first extensive interviews with the women he sexted since Weiner’s soft landing back on the political scene — a mid-campaign bombshell if there ever was one — but one accidental push of a button on the Times website has everyone waiting for the true return of the scandal once the Times gets its facts straight.

“I have said steadfastly I apologize for the things I have done,” Weiner told reporters Tuesday morning, as he was forced to answer questions about more than one of his old demons while on the mayoral campaign trail. And it’s true: Weiner has been very open with the New York tabloids in an attempt to beat them at their own game ahead of September’s Democratic primary… and ahead of rumored selfies from his time in Congress that are still floating around out there.

Could the Times have its hand on more topless Twitter photos? The Grey Lady might not get that salacious, but it’s got something worth deleting after a story was accidentally published online Monday, and it’s got the media, New Yorkers, and scandal-lovers everyone on edge. If you click on the URL left behind by the new-deleted story at NYTimes.com, all you get is a production note: “An article was posted on this page inadvertently, before it was ready for publication.” The article, by Times political reporter Michael Barbaro, who’s been all over the Weiner comeback beat, was titled “For Women in Weiner Scandal, Indignity Lingers.” That sure sounds like a stirring account of the difficult life the other side of a story has endured since June 2011, when it was discovered that Weiner had communicated with women whose images and online identities were made as instantly famous as the Congressman’s downfall was horrendously swift.

We’ll see if they publish it at all. I assume they will.

  1. I read an excerpt from the NY Times article, it detailed examples of ongoing sexual harassment of the women involved with Weiner by co-workers and acquaintances. Stuff like Talk dirty to her, she likes it.

Finding out, they then aborted the article.

So, that’s what Weiner was talking about when he said the other day that he’s ‘apologized for the many lives I’ve turned upside down by my actions.’

Anthony Weiner reveals he’s been in touch with women who received lewd messages – New York Daily News Wed. June 12, 2013, page 20

The headline in the printed paper is:

A ‘sorry’ can’t cut mustard / Weiner sext woes keep rising

There is a picture at the top of the page, which has balloons of Weiner and a woman thinking something.

Weiner had an issue: There should be roving vans visiting business districts where store owners could contest tickets. And he went to Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, to stage an event to promote that.

But a reporter asked him if he’s been in contact with any of the women who received his texts.

    He said:

“I have not been in contact except for in very basic ways,” he said. “But I’m not going to give any information about any of those contacts. I have said steadfastly that I apologize for the things that I’ve done.”

“I have never spoken about any of the personal correspondence I’ve had with them, nor will I.

Then his spokeswoman abruptly ended the press conference.

  11. The new York times had an artivle today that was uncomplementary about Weiner, but did not discuss sex.

  12. Well there’s been some news about Weiner.

Weiner backtracked about having coined the term “Obamacare” but not enough.

He tried saying that he was the first one to use it as a good world – the first liberal, but that’s not true either. John Conyers did.

The Daily News has a better story about this than the New York Times today.

The real point is, that this is all patronage from Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Anthony Weiner is totally dependent on them for his lifestyle, maybe his marriage.
