  1. Bobby Gates makes a hole in one on 13. Don’t know if the TV cameras caught it.

  2. Nobody is watching golf?

  3. If I was going to watch something, it would probably be lacrosse.
I know very little about lacrosse, but the NCAA championships (men and women) are in Philly and it is a beautiful day.
But I am not going to go anyway.

After growing up playing baseball, hitting a ball that is just sitting there waiting for you to hit it sounds a little cruel.
But putt-putt is fine with kids in tow.

  4. i predict the tournament will be fun and everyone can go get chopped salads afterwards and then drink a lot of whiskey but not to where they feel sick the next day

  5. No TV. Too busy yesterday and too lazy today to go shop for one. I’m waiting for Sergio Garcia to offer Tiger Woods a paella, since Woods turned down the fried chicken, but neither one is at the Colonial I believe.

To quote the fellow who taught me guitar in college, “The dirty pigs.”
I always dreamed of having a Martin; no more.
And if I ever have to choose between a Les Paul and a Fender Strat, I’ll take the Les Paul.

I think we (conservatives) need to start putting people into government jobs as undercover infiltration to turn whistleblower as appropriate.
Spying on your own government abusing its own people…

  7. it’s memorial day weekend and america’s a brutally fascist enterprise but at least the weather’s nice

  8. Oh, Mike Murphy is doing ant gun ads against Pryor, what could possibly go wrong?

  9. I am spending a few hours of the afternoon teaching Eagle Scout candidates a merit badge. We’ll probably only spend 30 minutes on the merit badge and two hours teaching them to hate on gay people like Mr. Feets thinks, or something.

  12. Painted Jaguar: Perhaps you can teach the “new mathematical logic” merit badge Mr. daleyrocks-

    When is it true that
    A+B=C,
    A=(not)B,
    and A+A=C=B+B?

Answer: Never, but some people think it is true if they don’t care anymore what A, B, and C are.
But reality doesn’t really care what people think.

  17. I don’t know of you’ve seen this article or have ever heard this #1 country billboard song played–but both are about what this weekend is all about.

“I drive your truck.” The story of a fallen hero soldier, a father’s grief, and a hit song. Please go to the link.

  18. Painted Jaguar: Mr. nk, MD’s she-cub wants to know how Greek people eat baklava (as with fingers or fork or what, not “with pleasure” or “eagerly” or some such)
also, is there a reason (other than a 3 day weekend) why Greek Festivals are on Memorial Day weekend? (like the one in MD’s neighborhood this weekend).

  19. PS: MD’s she-cub can be a real pain looking over my shoulder typing and being pushy.
my mummy (ever so patient) would have done a better job teaching her.

  20. O/T the LAT printed another goofy lifestyle story, this time about gay nuns becoming priests…or something. I honestly think they are bored and printing comment bait. The comments are really funny.

  21. MD, grownups eat baklava with a fork from a plate. It’s soaked with honey syrup which will drip if you eat it with your fingers, which is wasteful of the syrup. But every food can be finger food until an indeterminate age, and also situational necessity. You can buy a baklava at a booth at a Greek festival in a piece of wax paper, nibble it as you walk around, and lick the paper after. Greeks do not have any particular prejudice against eating with their hands like the Spaniards do for example.

May 29 commemorates the fall of Constantinople. It’s very big in my part of Greece, specifically Mistra near Sparta, where the last Byzantine Emperor came from. One of my earliest memories is riding there on a horse with an embroidered tasseled blanket over the saddle and fancy beaded bridle. But it’s celebrated by other Greeks too.

This is exactly what they did, Mr. nk.

    And now we know.

  23. You have to love a sport where two of the best players are named Boo and Bubba. By the way, they both played together on the same high school golf team.

  24. MD! I have 2 Les Paul’s currently. I own several other Gibsons, and I own a few Fenders. I’ve been a Gibson/Rickenbacker/Hamer/Takamine guy, but I inherited a 40th anniversary Strat, from a friends late brother. Best guitar I’ve ever owned. 1994 Strat, fantastic guitar in every way. 2 of my Les Pauls’ are almost priceless to me. I have a MINT Les Paul Gold top,and a 1980 Les Paul Special. Both have p-90 pickup. I also have a Telecaster that I would die for!

  25. Gus- all I can say is “wow”.

  27. I have a 1985 Les Paul (1959 reissue), but my everyday player is a Telecaster Thinline.

    Icy (5f60a3)

  28. Icy!!! I have 2 Tele thinlines. One is my baby, it is SWAMP ASH, it is gorgeous and perfect. The other is what they call a Telecaster HMT. HEAVY METAL TELECASTER. I’m not heavy metal, but that guitar is not only beautiful, but sounds great!!!! I actually own 2 of the hollow body thinlines!!!

    Gus (694db4)

  29. I have a 1986 Peavey Foundation bass and two kids in college. I don’t see an expansion of my guitar collection any time soon.

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  30. Ag80, use that Peavey until it is USED!!! I am blessed. I have 26 guitars currently, because I love guitars and I love music. I’d be equally happy with on guitar.

    Gus (694db4)

  31. So Boo Weekley won with -4. John Daly was cut but he has hopes for his brother Cheer next year. You know, when you see that Ben Crane has won this, maybe it’s not at the top competitive levels of golf? 😉

    nk (875f57)

  32. Gus:

I will tell you one thing, Peavey didn’t name it “Foundation” for nothing.

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  33. Excellent, Gus! I actually sold my Strat and switched to the Tele. Was never comfortable playing the Strat.

Ibanez Roadstar II Bass (best $175 I ever spent)

My Thinline is a 1986 reissue of the ’69 model (with the standard Tele pickups).

    Icy (a9c020)

  34. I’d be equally happy with on guitar.

Can I give you my address?

Seriously, being a novice acoustic player who has been not practicing for years, I always thought one could probably fuss with the various adjustments on an electric and the amp, especially with other attachments, that I never understood why one would need many different instruments-
now, it may be that someone who enjoys guitars and has the money just likes to have a bit of everything
and i figure performers may sometimes want different tunings and sound adjustments for different songs and doesn’t want to do adjustments on the fly and take up time.

But I may be all wrong and the basic hardware on the guitar, which isn’t easily changed, makes a bigger difference than all of the electronic processing
and as far as electric hollow bodies, well, I understand that if part of the sound is actually from the resonance of the body, that would certainly make a difference.

One thing i would like to do, which I doubt I ever will for various reasons, would be to pick up some kind of lap slide or whatever one needs to make the “David Lindley” sound

    but, hey, it could happen

  35. So, what’s it going to be this weekend? The Memorial at Dublin (Ohio) or the Nordea at Stockholm? Kuchar’s at Dublin (he can’t seem to get below -4 lately).

    nk (875f57)

  36. Can’t resist, and also to lighten things up a little: Tiger Woods had the worst nine holes of his career at Dublin, Ohio. Not counting the nine that cost him his marriage and public image.
