Never Let A Crisis Go To Waste

It is hard to measure the depth and breadth of the ignorance spewed by this CongressCritter.

As it stands right now, Tamerlan, as we know now, was on the terrorist watch list, so we know a gun check would stop him. If there was a background check, as it stands now, Tamerlan… or the next terrorist, can go to any gun show, and buy a hundred-round magazine. They can buy all the assault weapons they want, no questions asked. The gun lobby has the upper hand now, even though 90 percent of Americans want gun safety. This in no way infringes on the right of law-abiding Americans… but for the terrorist, for the bad guys, let’s pass sensible gun-safety legislation.

Would it be too much to ask for our Representatives to have even a passing acquaintance with the existing gun laws, and what they would and would not allow? Simply being on the terrorist watch list does not, in and of itself, preclude one from passing a background check for a gun. They idea that if they were to go to a gun show and buy a 100 round magazine is remarkable in that it has nothing to do with what they did, and distorts the “loophole” that they are always agonizing over. There is no background check required for anyone to buy a magazine, and if she is talking about the gun the magazine is intended for, at that gun show, if they buy from a dealer, they will have to go through a background check. She trots out the abject BS 90% statistic, that is meaningless, flawed, absurdly biased, and quite irrelevant to what the brothers did. As for the actual gun involved, it had it’s serial number scratched off, so there is no indication that it was purchased legally, nor any attempt made to do so. Again, the brothers have demonstrated a complete disregard for humanity, so given the fact they were willing to blow up innocents, the idea that they would care about purchasing a gun legally is laughable.

These are the people that want to infringe on your 2nd Amendment Rights. And they will cynically exploit any tragedy to do so, like Teh One did flying the families of the Sandy Hook victims around in Air Force One, while giving speeches standing on the still warm graves.

  3. She is obviously related to that student at UConn who thinks the new Husky logo “promotes rape”. No critical thinking skills whatsoever, and say anything to promote your agenda, no matter how stupid, because obviously no one else knows how to think either. /sigh

  4. Would it be too much to ask for our Representatives to have even a passing acquaintance with the existing gun laws, and what they would and would not allow?

Yes, it would be too much to ask.

They have to lie to get more gun control. They have to convince people who don’t own guns that essentially there aren’t any laws on the books.

  5. The terror watch list is not perfect by any stretch. I don’t feel comfortable taking someone’s actual rights without an actual proceeding with accountability and penalties for errors.

And JD’s right… there’s no background check to buy a magazine. Or pressure cooker.

  6. In other important news you can’t make uo, the Hill reports that a group of Democrat members of congress is warning that global warming will turn women into hookers.

They have their best people working on these issues!

  7. no reputable dealer would sell a weapon with a defaced serial number.

besides, even if it’s defaced, there are ways of retrieving the number, so only a fool would bother doing that.

it’s too bad stupid isn’t instantly painful, to serve as a negative feedback loop for idiots like her.

  8. Just so you guys know, and this isn’t an original observation by any stretch so I’m sure many of you do, the reason the libofascists are so hard over on the terror watch list is because then you can have your 2nd Amendment rights taken away by an unaccountable bureaucrat. No due process.

It’s the same with their desire to expand the definition of mental illness. It’s been a while since I filled out the form, but the block I checked “no” to next to the question about mental illness involved involuntary commitment.

Now the libofascists want to be able to put you on the prohibited list if your doctor makes an anonymous phone call. Or prescribes anxiety medicine.

  9. She, of all people, should know the law. She wrote (or her staff did) after her husband was murdered by a black mass killer.

    Ooops !

That was racist, wasn’t it ?

  10. I might actually be willing to discuss these ideas, however wrong they may be, with them if they would simply learn the basics on the topic. Every time another CongressCritter, or Biden, etc … talks about gun-grabbing, ey are horribly wrong in just the basics. They have no functional understanding of what they want to ban.

    JD (b63a52)

  11. Do you suppose they would take offense if we banned gun sales to people on a secret government list of communists and fellow travelers?

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  12. I would point out that before they decided to use more than first and last name on these watch lists, everyone with the same (or similar) name was hassled at the airport. They say it is better now, but having experienced a number of travel delays due to this stupidity, I really don’t trust them one little bit.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  13. What is missed, is that these folks don’t care what they do or say to futher there ideas. Most, if not all is ‘BS’, but here again they don’t care because none of it will be reported in the MSM.

    Charles Curran (78e0c1)

  14. 90 plus percent of American adult males would like to bang Jessica Alba. Do we get that too???

    Gus (694db4)

  15. So our esteemed libtard Congresslady tells us that the govt had old Tamerlan on a terror watch list.

HOW DID THAT WORK OUT FOR US??

Naturally we should have more lists. Right?

    Gus (694db4)

  16. “go to any gun show, and buy a hundred-round magazine.” What is this gun show “loophole” they’re always blabbing about? I go to lots of gun shows, and the vendors won’t let you even _touch_ a gun or ammo without presenting a FOID card. The FOID card is issued by state LE after they do a background check on you. So what’s the loophole?

“Americans want gun safety” There they go with the new Lakoffism ‘gun safety’ instead of ‘gun control.’

    gp (5a38d9)

  17. To buy a handgun in California, you need to get a handgun safety certificate after passing a test. One would think that these certificate applications go to the state and could be examined against lists of felons, etc. No way you can get a handgun at a gun show (or anywhere else in CA) without one.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  18. She is just another liar, like all gun control activists.

    SPQR (393b99)

  19. Its the shoulder thing that goes up.

    SPQR (393b99)

  20. Since Tamerlan had a gun and ammunition, he must have had a background check. No? Did he manage to get his gun illegally to avoid a background check?

    Shame in him.

    Corky Boyd (c2186d)

  21. One thing they never, ever mention is that it is illegal for anyone to buy a gun out-of-state, so a lot of this gun show nonsense is just that.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  22. Kevin M., much of the “90% support …” horse manure comes from deliberately confusing people about what existing law already requires. 90% of people do support … the existing background check requirements. And don’t support the oppressive additions proposed by gun control activists like Sen. Schumer’s outrageous bill.

    SPQR (768505)

  23. You don’t have to be smart to be in congress. You don’t have to understand government, laws and societies to be in congress. You don’t have to have a knowledge of history to be in congress.

The only thing you do have to do to be in congress is get elected.

    anchovy (4e6c42)

  24. SPQR,

Certainly. They also neglect to inform people that these “assault weapons” are simply modern rifles which work better than a bolt-action Springfield descendant. Such “scary” things like foregrips or pistol grips are there not because terrorists like them, but because the gun works better that way. But the next time I hear anyone say this on TV will be the first.

And so we have people believing that you can just go to a gun show in some Red state and pick up a truckload of machine guns for a dollar.

    Kevin M (bf8ad7)

  25. Kevin M., which is infuriating since only ATF informants and Mexican drug cartels who have paid off the ATF get those deals.

    SPQR (768505)

  26. Someone should be shot for the price gouging on ammo.

  27. Just to clarify: Not all states have FOID’s, or their equivalent. Here in WA, there is no such thing. Want a gun? Buy one. Background check is required, of course. Also, it is NOT illegal to buy a gun out of state. My last two purchases were made out of state: both in Idaho. The National Instant Check has nullified the out of state issue.

    Greg (bc5060)

  28. Greg, Federal law allows out of state residents to buy a long gun (not a handgun) from an FFL, only, in another state if not forbidden by both state laws.

    SPQR (768505)

  29. “Just to clarify: Not all states have FOID’s, or their equivalent. Here in WA, there is no such thing. Want a gun? Buy one. Background check is required, of course.”

Greg – Here in Illinois we get FOID’s but still have to complete background checks for purchases.

  31. As several others have noted, this is much less a case of her displaying a level of ignorance on the subject than it is of her intentionally lying and counting on the ignorance of a good portion of the electorate to swing popular opinion in favor of her position.

Which is kinda funny, since they keep telling us that 90% of the electorate is already on her side. Hmmm . . .

    Icy (648c89)

  32. SPQR, you’re probably right; both my buys were rifles. We have a Cabela’s right across the state line from Spokane, where most of their business comes from. It seems odd that they wouldn’t be able to sell handguns to probably 75% of their customer base.

    Greg (bc5060)

  33. Hello! We have evidence of how the brothers obtained at least one of their guns! They walked up the patrol car where Officer Sean Collier sat and shot him in cold blood to take his handgun. Easy, peasy – no forms to fill out, no waiting periods or background checks. Hey! I wonder if any other criminals have figured out this alternative gun acquisition strategy?

  34. Greg, that’s been Federal law for some time.

Hello! We have evidence of how the brothers obtained at least one of their guns! They walked up the patrol car where Officer Sean Collier sat and shot him in cold blood to take his handgun.

No, that didn’t happen. that was theory number 2 as to why they (actually Tamerlan alone) shot the policeman. Theory number 1 was that now wanted to kill policemen. theory number 2 was that they stole his gun. Later on they said they only had one gun.

Maybe they did steral the gun and somebody is protecvting the (dead?) cop?

My theory as to why the policeman was shot is the Oswald theory: tamerlan thought the police noticed something, either knew who he was or was going to question him and he shot and killed him.

Hey! I wonder if any other criminals have figured out this alternative gun acquisition strategy

It’s not easy. muuch easier to get a girl to buy one.

Or buy one from someone illegally.
