I share your frustration, but I slightly disagree. Two things have changed since 9/10/2001 and 9/12/2001:

I share your concern. I suspect the Obama Administration is relying on an expanded public safety exception to the Miranda Rule, despite the fact that Holder has previously suggested Congress should legislate a terrorism exception to Miranda — legislation that never came to pass.
Maybe there’s been an executive order we don’t know about, or maybe the DOJ and federal law enforcement are simply repeating what they did with the New York City car bomber, Faisal Shahzad. Or both, since this Administration always seems willing to get what it wants.

He is an American citizen captured on American soil, and while it seems clear he is one of the bombers in this case — what if the evidence weren’t so clear? After all, other people who weren’t guilty apparently became the target of this investigation, and there’s no guarantee the police will get the right person every time.
To me, the Public Safety Exception was intended to cover imminent, immediate threats. I think the doctrine was stretched beyond reason in the Shahzad case in New York, and the DOJ is repeating that here. There’s a reason Holder wanted a Terrorism Exception so he didn’t have to rely on the Public Safety Exception. There’s also reason why Congress declined to give it to him.

Tamerlan’s former boxing coach says Tamerlan was the best boxer in Boston, that he smoked all the pros even. He also described a personality change. When Tamerlan was boxing at his mixed-martial arts center he was always polite and respectful. But a couple of years back he stopped going there, instead training at another local gym. He did come back once recently. This time he was rude and arrogant, using other peoples’ equipment without asking and walking on the mats with his shoes.
Just saying, it sounds like Tamerlan could be intimidating and he certainly was abusive and violent. On the other hand Dzhokhar was clearly competitive as well. Apparently he was captain of his H.S. wrestling team and won some state championships. Not all followers meekly accept their role like Malvo did. Sometimes the follower contests his role, and the leader has to keep him in line.
Obviously I don’t know what kind of relationship the two brothers had. But running over his brother suggests it wasn’t all sweetness and light.

He is apparently a good man. And he’s right; the radicalization of the Tsarnaev brothers happened here. Not in Russia, not in Chechnya.

I think you’re wrong. they are more free to ask questions of him if he is treated as a civilian.
At Guantanamo, he would be a prisoner of war.
Prisoners of war are not supposed to be given added privileges or threatened with punishments, even the death penalty, if they do not co-operate, but the FBI is perfectly free to do that to civilians who have been arrested.
