Patterico Page on Facebook: Open to All

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:42 pm

I have my own Facebook page, which has a mixture of “friends” from the blog and from my personal life. However, if I don’t know you well from the blog, you might have asked to be a “friend” and not gotten approved. Tonight I have set up a new page that is blog-centric. If I understand the way this new page works, anyone on Facebook can click “like” and follow it. Which would be fun.

I’m going to try to remember to post my entries on the Facebook page as well as on the blog. I’m not 100% sure I have done this right, as I am no social media expert. So anyway, go to this page and click “like,” I think is what you are supposed to do with the Facebook.

And then get off my lawn!

UPDATE: I have successfully changed the name to Facebook.com/PattericoBlog. (Facebook.com/Patterico is my personal page.) Easy to remember, and a good way to be notified when there is a new post up. Go “like” it now.

  1. And tell me if I am doing this wrong.

  2. I keep a Facebook account so I can spy on my grandchildren 😉 but I almost never post anything or “like” anything since I figured out the ONLY way Facebook can EVER justify its market capitalization is by selling every single bit of information on its members to anyone who will pay for it.

Google, too, my search terms and info on my accounts are all for sale, so I use Bing 90% of the time and other engines 9%, Google 1%. Who’d have thought Microsoft would be “the company that respects your privacy” eh?

  3. I’m pretty sure it’s working the way I had hoped: even people who are not my Facebook “friends” are able to follow my updates on Facebook. I can link all my posts here and maybe even do other updates that are appropriate to the blog audience.

    Cool.

  5. Don’t look at me, I’m boycotting Facebook

  6. I have a love-hate relationship with Facebook (and with its attempts to “improve” it, that’s close to pure hate.)

Staying off your lawn, until invited. 😛

Well see, that’s an interesting and brite line difference between us htom! I have a hate-hate relationship with Facebook. (IOW, I’m with you SPQR.)

I would not be surprised to find that many commenters here eschew Facebook participation. But good luck with the experiment Patterico. I know many people absolutely love Facebook.

  8. There are people who like and hate every form of social media. I have been more of a Twitter person (I have about 8000 followers, why aren’t you one of them?) but found out how easy it is to create a Facebook page that is separate from your personal one, and thought, why not?

  9. I got dragged onto Facebook a couple of years ago, a family thing there wasn’t really a substitute for then. Some old friends asked, we caught up, staying caught up is nice, even if the news is bad. About 20% of my high school classmates are on FB. Usually it’s good news, though.

Twitter I haven’t really tried; I suspect it would be like a FB game, a huge way to waste even more time.

  11. Is anyone having problems with the link button? It works for me but a couple of people have complained.
