Justin Timberlake Latest (Attempted) SWATting Victim

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 5:13 pm

CBS:

Justin Timberlake is the latest victim in a string of “swatting” calls that have targeted celebrity homes this past week.

Police were called to the singer’s Hollywood Hills residence in the 3100 block of Torreyson Place Friday afternoon after a caller claimed strangers entered the house and two shots were fired.

Authorities later confirmed the incident to be a false report.

I call it an attempted SWATting because nobody was home.

That’s three SWATting crimes in three days. Perhaps law enforcement will start to prioritize fighting these things. Or perhaps not. Who knows?

As has quickly become traditional, here is an incomplete roll call of SWATtings: Justin Timberlake; Rihanna; Sean Combs; Chris Brown; Tom Cruise; Paris Hilton; Clint Eastwood; Brian Krebs; the Jenners and Kardashians; Justin Bieber; Miley Cyrus; Ashton Kutcher; Simon Cowell; Aaron Walker; Erick Erickson; Mike Stack; and me.

Remember, though: only celebrities count.

That’s the Big Media Way.

  2. it’s all fun and games until someone gets killed.

  7. that’s the *second* Justin the swatters have targeted and Jennifer Aniston, a swatting virgin who who played “Rachel” on the hit WBTV sitcom Friends for many years, is currently right now very seriously dating a guy named Justin so obviously they’re next and the cops for sure know to be super suspicious when the swatters call about people breaking into Jennifer Ansiston’s house

  12. The SWATtings have the police “on edge.” It doesn’t do much for the victims, either.

  14. This just in: LAPD says it’s going to get tough on SWATters … but only for celebrity victims:

The Los Angeles Police Department says it’s trying to get tough on crank callers who “swat” the homes of celebrities. The most recent example came Thursday when singer Rihanna’s home was swatted.

LAPD sources said the department has trained dispatchers to help identify when a crank caller reports violence at the homes of celebrities.

Police have complained that the calls divert resources from responding to real crimes. As a result, the LAPD is sending fewer units to check out incidents they believe are fake, the sources said.

Everyone else is on their own.

  17. This just in: LAPD says it’s going to get tough on SWATters … but only for celebrity victims:

How about this: the City of Los Angeles ought to add a 5% surcharge on every single movie ticket, concert ticket, and sporting event ticket sold within city limits and use the proceeds to hire more officers to help with these celebrity SWATting cases. This would satisfy the conservative principle that the people who are on the receiving end of extra benefits of society should bear the costs for them, and it would satisfy the progressive principle that those who enjoy wealth should be paying more for the benefits that they receive from government.

  18. Maybe when more non-celebrities are targeted the police will get tired of the SWATtings.

Right now they’re just a ticket to see the homes of the rich and famous, and meet a celebrity or two.
