North Korea Develops Time Machine

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:24 pm

And uses it to give us a frightening glimpse into America’s future, cleverly disguised as laughable propaganda about America’s present.

It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I could deal with coffee made from snow. And tasty birds? Yum!

UPDATE: This commenter provides evidence that the video is a hoax/satire, and not a product of the North Korean government. That would not be particularly surprising.

UPDATE x2: Yup. Fake. But very funny.

  2. “A former republican candidate”

I thought North Koreans knew about snow, and the relative shortage of birds when snow is prevalent

other than that, sounded like a typical AP story

  3. is there a for reals reason why we can’t bomb them into pretty glowing cinders tomorrow?

  5. The most important difference in the video …
Americans may live in corridors, but those corridors are well lit.

  6. It’s a great documentary of the job FEMA has done in the Rockaways.

  7. I saw this on Youtube a couple weeks ago. It was on a channel whose creator had a ton of satirical videos on North Korea (i.e. he dubbed over the videos mocking NK’s propaganda).

I’m trying to find his channel now and will post it if I do.

I would take this with a grain of salt until it’s confirmed. Then again, I don’t speak Korean so I may be completely wrong.

  8. If this is so, why do they fear us so and want to bomb us poor people out of existence?

Do the Korean people get Korean coffee and a cake?

  9. Here is the link to the original video entitled “North Korea Comedy Show : How Americans Live Today, Survive By Eating Birds And Snow”:

Many of the comments seem to suggest its a hoax video, including one where the author thanks a user for claiming his narration is hilarious. The author also has many other videos which dubs NK videos, as I said before. It seems to be an ongoing satire.

  10. Yeah, I was considering playing part of the video tomorrow for my colleague who speaks Korean, to see if it’s truly an authentic translation. It would not be terribly shocking to learn it is not. ratbeach has a good point.

  11. Yup, it’s a fake. See the update. But very funny.

  12. It reminds me of the old days when the Ruskies said our old folk were reduced to eating cans of cat food. It backfired when the general population was astonished that we were so spoiled as to have special food for cats only.
Notwithstanding the reality that on a per pound basis cat food is quite expensive.

  13. Gazzer – on a per pound basis, chicken is cheaper than cat …

Personally, when I can, I enjoy a vegetarian diet … especially a diet consisting of healthy quantities of Bambi, and Thumper, and Bessie – vegetarians each and all of them …

  14. The idea works because people in information restricted countries have no other sources to compare. When I was stationed in West Berlin, I overheard an East German guide to a group of Africans telling his audience that the West had constructed the Wall to keep West Berliners from fleeing to the People’s Paradise. They believed the guide.

  15. Hill told The Huffington Post over the phone Wednesday that he received the original video from North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency, which said it depicts the failure of European democracy.

Be interesting to see the real text

  16. Fake, but funny?

I believe you meant “False, but accurate.”

  17. The real thing is damn near as funny (but much more frightening) on a daily basis, year-in and year-out.

  18. Here’s an example:

Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) — The DPRK’s nuclear deterrent for self-defense is the best means of Kim Il Sung’s nation and Kim Jong Il’s Korea, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a bylined article.

    It goes on:

The DPRK’s access to nuclear deterrent put a definite end to the distress-torn history of the nation in which flunkeyism was regarded as a “lever for preserving the nation,” the history of stateless nation in which it was deprived of sovereign right as it had no matchlock and it was unable to protect even the name of the country.

The U.S.-led imperialist reactionaries can no longer provoke the DPRK.

Its access to nuclear deterrent for self-defense enabled the Korean nation to live under clear and blue sky and hand a peaceful land to posterity.

The DPRK’s emergence as nuclear weapons state made a breakthrough in the age-old world political structure centered on nuclear powers and made it possible for it to stand firm against the U.S. styling itself the “world’s only superpower”.

The DPRK emerged a strong power exerting great influence on the world politics and building an independent world order. It has also made it possible to wage a dynamic struggle against imperialism and the U.S.

The DPRK’s nuclear deterrent serves as a means common to the nation for defending the territory of the whole of Korea, not just the DPRK, and protecting and glorifying all the Koreans in the north and the south.

All the service personnel and the people of the great Paektusan nation will never allow the nation’s sovereignty and dignity to be infringed upon and the supreme interests of the country to be threatened.

Songun Korea is sure to emerge victorious as it is possessed of powerful nuclear deterrent, the article concludes.

I’m sure this can be readily translated into Farsi. I’m sure SecState John F’in Kerry can free up some stimulus money for a translation to help the peace-loving peoples of Persia in their goals for standing up to American imperialism too.
