    sequestergate- if we could get enough people to testify who have been ordered by the president to cause mischief with the cuts it would be one more on the growing list of ways he has broken his oath of office and should be impeached.

    but it is like being an American ally in the ME, you know you are going to be abandoned so maybe you want to cooperate with the taliban and AlQaeda after all, just to survive- cause if you turn against the one your career will sleep with the fishes and it may not do any good after all

    If you study page 104 of the 2012 1040 instructions, where there is a pie graph with notes….

    ….you will see they put health research [= the CDC] in the category with Social programs like Medicaid, food stamps and SSI. I think these are means tested programs. Medicaid etc is 15% and the subcategory including health research and unemployment compensation and housing programs are 8% of federal spending. Shouldn’t housing be in the first subcategory? I guess the second subcategory is a catchall.

    Aid to education (K-12 and college) goes into the category “Physical human and community development” [that is for the future benefit of the beneficiaries] which is another 8%.

    Mostly useless] job training goes there also, as well as deposit insurance [!!] Also Solyndra [space energy and general science.

    But medical science is, as I said, in another part of the pie graph, along with unemployment insurance.

14. These draconian cuts are like taking a meat cleaver to the budget. They are automatic. There is no choice in the matter. Every program, project, or activity must be cut equally. No exceptions.

    Obama administration spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Thursday that “detailed decisions” have yet to be made about how the administration would meet a projected $24 million reduction to the executive office budget, which may include furloughs of presidential aides and other employees.

    Err, except when they’re not automatic. And there is choice. And by “detailed decisions” Carney means “any decisions.” Besides the tours.

    Because that’s spending money on people other than the Obamas. That can go.

15. Off topic: White House withdraws, well, defers, an award at the last minute because of recipient’s anti-semitism:

    ‘No Honor’ For Egyptian ‘Woman of Courage’

    …after news reports revealed anti-Semitic messages on her Twitter feed.

    The messages included a tweet in which Ibrahim expressed her understanding and admiration of Adolph Hitler saying, “I have discovered with the passage of days that no act contrary to morality, no crime against society, takes place except with the Jews having a hand in it. Hitler.”

    Just to refresh your memories, the “anti-Zionist” tweets in question included a celebration of murder: “”An explosion on a bus carrying Israelis in Burgas airport in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. Today is a very sweet day with a lot of very sweet news.” In another tweet, she described the leaders of Saudi Arabia as “dirtier than the Jews.” (This counts as a twofer, I suppose, because it’s hard to imagine America’s Saudi allies being very happy about this one.) Then there was this tweet, praising the handiwork of al Qaeda: “Today is the anniversary of 9/11. May every year come with America burning.”

    Secretary of State John Kerry and First lady Michelle Obama were scheduled to present her with the award today (along with nine other people)

    Today, because March 8 is International Women’s Day.

    The old Soviet Union established March 8 as a date to honor women, [it was originally called International Working Women's Day] and it survived the death of the Soviet Union, and is a kind of a Russian Valentine’s Day, or a combination of Valentine’s Day and Mother’s day.

    It actually got started by Socialists in the years before 1917 but was at the end of February. It became a legal holiday in the Soviet Union in 1965, under Brezhnev.

16. It’s kind of not off topic in that this Ibrahim chick first claimed those “racist” tweets weren’t hers. That she had been hacked. Then the DoS agreed she had been hacked.

    And when people pointed out how the “hacks” went on for weeks and she not only didn’t seem to notice but responded to others commenting on those “hacks” rather than deleting them the DoS finally had to withdraw the award.

    At which point Samira Ibrahim who was willing to lie and say “those aren’t mine” to get the award proudly stood up to the Joooos and claimed those tweets as her own and said she refused to apologize for them so she wouldn’t get the award.

    Which is sort of like al Qaeda claiming the September 11, 2001 attack on the twin towers was revenge for the October 2001 US attack on Afghanistan.
