Obama’s Laserlike Focus on Jobs

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 11:36 am

So unemployment rises again, to 7.9%.

And the president abolishes a jobs council that has members from business and labor.

Are they making new, very fuzzy and unfocused lasers these days?

  1. I like how the second linked article says Obama implemented about half of the council’s recommendations already.

The half suggested by labor, I would wager.

  4. Obama gave up on improving the economy four years ago and has done nothing since except burden our economy with more stifling regulation, expensive mandates that discourage employment, and increasing the cost of energy.

His actions indicate that he likes high unemployment just fine.

  6. Here is what Obama means when he says they have implemented many of the Jobs Council’s recommendations:

Here are the recommendations: Build confidence, develop talent, simplify regulations, build infrastructure, and develop all of America’s energy resources. These are sensible recommendations, but Obama hasn’t implemented them in a sensible way.

Instead, his policies have failed to build public confidence; his focus on college-for-all is bankrupting higher education and (worse yet) its students; he has not only failed to simplify regulations but he has proposed an explosive number of regulations; we have no real infrastructure to speak of from the stimulus, except in labor’s pocketbooks; and his idea of developing energy consists of blocking the Keystone Pipeline and throwing money at a succession of corrupt, useless energy companies affiliated with Democratic donors.

  7. According to this administration, the nation is experiencing “sustained growth”.

And soon, they will tell us that down is up, off is on, and failure is success.

Or didn’t they just say that?

  8. Ezra Klein gripes that those of us who are accusing the Jobs Council of doing nothing or are accusing Dear Leader of ignoring their recommendations need to read the awesome report that the council has issued. As if those bigshot CEOs and labor leaders who only met a handful of times didn’t delegate that work to some flunkies on the government payroll.

  9. Obama won the election. He promised to empower all the flakes in the country. Those flakes are now essentially running said country and don’t care a dam about deficits, futures past tomorrow, or anything that cuts back on their benefits. Period. Nothing will change until after financial collapse happens and even then the flakes will vote themselves fascism rather than reality. I honestly think we are all fucked.

  10. Remember, according to VP Joe Bidet, speaking in Germany, this ‘so-called fiscal crisis’ isn’t so bad. Whey. that’s a load off my chest.

I just thought that should be repeated, DRJ.

And Ezra Klein is a clown.

  12. Obama’s laser-like focus on his War on the American Economy and Jobs is one of the few notable successes so far.

  13. Jobs aren’t as important as grabbing all the guns. After all, armed citizens can fight against overbearing government, but during a Depression government is everyone’s friend.

  15. I’m not surprised. I always assumed the “laser-like focus on jobs” theme referred to his own and Valerie’s. Hey rubes–the election’s ovah! No pivot required! Don’t need no more jobs council optics.

  19. What intrigues me is how many people believe Obama is simply in over his head, so according to that view he’s a well-meaning failure (at best). I think Obama has specific goals and everything he does is calculated to reach those goals, and for the most part he’s been successful in reaching them.

But whether he’s a failure or a success, the results for America’s future have been devastating.

    DRJ (a83b8b)

  20. DRJ @19, Obama isn’t in over his head. He’s acting on his beliefs. Benighted, Marxist and ignorant, yes, but beliefs nonetheless.

This YouTube video encapsulates them well. The sentence Obam utters before the video starts is “(referencing other countries) We can’t tell them ‘don’t grow.'”

It captures almost all of Obama’s ossified socialist prejudices. That “they” can’t grow if we keep driving our SUVs, eating what we want, and heating and cooling our homes. As if the pie is of a certain size and we’re eating too much. He explicitly says that when he says we can’t use 25% of the energy if we’re only 3% of the population. As if energy is allocated on a per capita basis (hint: perhaps we can use more energy if we produce more with it).

As if “they” can or even would want to say “no” if we have the money to pay for the energy.

All in all, it is enlightening. And, as I’ve said, Obama sees it as his mission to shut down this country as a world power. He lays out his reasons in the linked video. Very clearly.

None of what’s happening now is an accident.

  21. Quite a few important topics and updates on world events didn’t make it to the ABC ten o’clock news this evening. But ihe president’s awesome newly released skeet shooting picture did!

    Priorities.

    elissa (1c0cc3)

  22. Skeet birthers. Showing one pic proves he does it all the time.

    JD (b63a52)

  23. JD–That Barry skeet gun pic is gonna get photoshopped and used and abused and mocked in ways the WH cannot even begin to imagine. Releasing it was a huge mistake they will regret. But they couldn’t resist, could they? They had to provide a “nah nah nah nah nah, told you so” response to those nasty right wing doubters. Was he wearing his mom jeans?

  26. When Barry O is mocked about his obfuscation regarding a number of items such as an actual paper birth certificate, college transcripts, college thesis, information about how he paid for the incredibly expensive colleges, his medical records, as well as recent documentation such as memos regarding Fast & Furious, or what/where he did during the attack on our Benghazi embassy, he still refuses to release documentation of most of the aforementioned.

Yet if people question whether or not he’s even gone skeet shooting, his Administration gladly whips out a photo.

  28. With all the comments regarding the end of the
jobs council, no one has mentioned the key
element. GE’s Immelt was named to head the
council and soon after he was named, he
said he was going to have GE’s xray department
moved to China and xray units built there.

That, in my opinion is hypocrisy at its best.
